Got lunch at Friday's Crabhouse for a little day trip my family and I did for 4th of July. Located right on Friday Harbor, this place is definitely appealing for its location and view of the water. The restaurant is open seating, and you order at the bar. I thought the staff were all very friendly! A lot of them were actually students from Thailand, so it was really interesting getting to know and chat with them! They provided a few great tips for the area and things to do. Regarding the food, my family and I shared a few items. We shared the captain's platter, which included fried fish, scallops, prawns, calamari, and clams, as well as the rockfish, a few grilled oysters, and clam chowder. I'd say the fried platter and clam chowder were on the more underwhelming side. I think for a location that takes pride in their seafood it seemed a bit more run of the mill for me. I did however love the grilled oysters and rockfish! May consider coming back just for the oysters and view, but there are other businesses on the harbor I'd like to check out as well. read more

Came here with a few friends on a Sunday afternoon for drinks and lunch while waiting for the ferry. My overall impression? This place has prime waterfront real estate and incredible potential, but the experience felt more like an overpriced roadside burger stand than a destination restaurant. Just feels like there is no attention to detail. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return. The view could be beautiful, but the rooftop seating sits low to the ground so unless you are sitting at the bar like seats on the rail you won't see much of the view. Tall tables and chairs would fix this issue immediately so all tables have a great view. In addition, tables outside the small covered area don't have umbrellas, making it uncomfortably hot on a sunny day. That's such an easy improvement to make. Had there been shade, we would have happily stayed longer and ordered another round of drinks instead of leaving because we were sweating in the direct sun. The food was underwhelming, greasy, and overpriced. One friend ordered the shrimp appetizer, which came with only five shrimp for $15. Another disappointment was the bottled ranch served with the fries. For a restaurant charging these prices, I expect house made basics like ranch. It's a small detail, but it often says a lot about the overall approach to the food. The menu felt geared toward quick, easy fried food rather than dishes made with much care or creativity. One friend enjoyed his burger but described it as simply "okay" not memorable or worth the price. It also seemed fairly small for what they charged. We ate at several restaurants during our weekend on the island, and this was the only one where the prices didn't match the quality of the food and service. Friday's Crabhouse in Friday Harbor on a Friday late afternoon! It was open seating, so we sat at the top patio. It was pretty empty, so service was pretty speedy. We ordered at the bar. We got an assortment of things: salmon clam chowder, captains platter, steamed clams, crab cakes, grilled salmon, and the honey garlic shrimp. All of the seafood was really good. The chowder was super tasty, but there weren't many actual chunks of seafood. Lots of potatoes though. Clams were super fat and fresh. It comes with an herby oil dipping sauce, but I actually enjoyed them more plain. Captains platter was the perfect medley of batter and flavor and seafood. Everything was fried really well. Crab cakes were not bad, hit or miss in my group specifically. The grilled dishes were really good too, nothing really dry or fishy. Everything was well flavored. The service throughout was really attentive and kind. Makes the top floor patio a really great place to chill and watch the ferries pull in and out. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here, especially given the mixed reviews on Yelp and Google. I'd definitely come back if I were in Friday harbor again! read more

The views are excellent and the presentation of the food was impressive. I didn't realize how hard it would be to find good Dungeness crab in the PNW. I loved the presentation of the crab here and the price was very reasonable. They don't give you anything to crack it with, but they crack it for you prior to delivering it to the table. It's served COLD so please do keep that in mind. I prefer warm freshly boiled crab, but was okay with this being cold due to it being clearly stated on the menu. I was very happy with the oysters and they were less than $4 each. All in all the food was great. The views are excellent and allowed me to sit and enjoy the breeze. There seems to be tons of seating including upstairs, the main level and then some inside as well. There is a restroom if you go through the gift shop and down the stairs. read more

My friend and I came to visit the San Juan island and wanted to try some crab! First of all, it was very confusing to get in and there wasn't anyone there to greet us. Second of all, the both of us ordered a crab and fish tacos to share and was not good at all. The food was bland and the crab wasn't fresh. Lastly, it was VERY expensive for what we got. Almost paid $100 for a whole crab, 2 tacos and 2 drinks. We were very unimpressed and do not recommend coming here. We should have gone somewhere else that night for seafood. read more

We went to the crab house to eat. The crab House ran out of...... Crab. The place smelled like a deep fried cesspool. I ordered a Long Island iced tea. It tasted like a Shirley Temple, and I asked the bartender if there was any alcohol in it. She said that it was an automated pour from her soda arm. I'm a Long Island iced tea fanatic, and this drink has zero alcohol in it. She felt bad that I wasn't happy with the very pricey drink and then said that the boss was careful with the pours because we were being served upstairs. Needless to say, I can't put a rating on the food because we didn't eat there nor will I ever. The service was friendly. The product was awful. read more

There is no better place for grilled fresh oysters! Also they know how to cook salmon without being dry. They add a simple secret sauce to both that really pops the flavor! The view is great from the fly deck IF you're sitting along the bar. If you're sitting at a table the outside bar aligns perfectly with your eye level so you can't see anything beyond that or the people that sit there. Could be way better with tall chairs & tables. Appetizers we had were ok. Jalapeño poppers were typical deep fried previously frozen poppers. No surprise there. Calamari was disappointing. It was light & somewhat crispy but the coating fell right off when you picked it up. The capers & garlic topping ya'll need to STOP putting that on there. Sure makes it look high end but flavors DO NOT complement the Calamari. Also, PLEASE serve it with a yummy aioli sauce instead of tartar sauce. Strawberry Pina Colada was yummy !! Seafood was fresh but poorly seasoned. Ordered the crab cakes that came with salad (bagged spring mix with a bizarre Cesar dressing, 6 bbq oysters and steamer clams. Crab cakes were ok but barely warm. Oysters were fresh but the broth used to serve them was flavorless tasted like bottled lemon juice (bitter) capers and the pot liquid without butter, wine, garlic, herbs etc. The steamers are served with a small plastic container of the same liquid. Again the seafood is fresh but the accompanying liquid was not at all great. Service is bar service to order and the bar tender was very personable and friendly. read more

The burgers and hotdogs are grilled downstairs at the entrance to try to draw you in. I believe everything else is made in the kitchen. It's open seating, so most people decide to sit at the rooftop for the great views. However when your food gets delivered, they don't have a table number system, so they just shout out your name. Every time I'm on the islands, I'll be here more than once. The food is always a hit, service is amazing, food always comes out pretty quick, and atmosphere is enjoyable. I've ate at this restaurant I believe 3 times within a span of two days when I visited Friday harbor for the first time, and then I ate here again everyday this most recent stay! It's REALLY that delicious, and the pricing isn't too bad compared to what a lot of reviews say, but that is beside the point... I'm only giving 2 stars because I overheard a conversation of a male bartender in his late 20's try to joke with a group of elderly women by saying, "don't mind the heavy accents when they call out your name, we hired a lot of Thai kids for the summer," and began laughing obnoxiously. I work in hospitality and I know how far people will go for a decent tip, but this is straight up rude, racist, and extremely unprofessional. I genuinely felt bad for the young individuals who were working, because you can tell they are genuinely trying their best. They provided the best service I've ever received here. The only reason why I'm writing this is because I fear they are too afraid to speak up and defend themselves. Probably will never come back anymore, despite this being on my top 3 favorite spots on the island. After a decent meal and decent service my husband took food tray up to counter to set down. The old haggard brunette in braids had an attitude. He asked if he did something wrong? She said she wasn't expecting it shoved in her face. Nothing was shoved in her face. We come here often and called the owner. We had nice staff. We left our drinks. No one wants that kind of service. Not used to a man helping her I guess. Update......owner called us back and explained why she enabled her employee. Her explanation: Lady was the bartender. She has to deal with drunk people and she had hurt her hand earlier. She hired her for her strong personality. I listened to call. Again maybe she isn't used to being helped. Especially by a man. That is truly sad. But hardworking people who spend their money in your establishment and even try to be helpful dont need that type of treatment. There is a time and place to behave like that. Came multiple days during my trip to San Juan! Our usual fare was alcohol, so I can't speak TOO much on the food, but the fish and chips I got was good. Expensive for what it was, but good enough that I wasn't complaining. Fish was a litter smaller than what I was expecting. For drinks, we got pitchers, cider, cocktails, and everything was good! Just a nice spot to lounge around while waiting for the ferry or to enjoy the sun! Food is served in plastic baskets with plastic utensils, and they will charge you for a cup of tap water. Food wasn't terrible, but nothing to write home about either. Wish we didn't go here.. Almost $80 for a badly prepared burger, frozen poppers fried in old fishy oil, tasteless fries and an unacceptable BLT. The BLT had two large bread slices, two teeny bacon slices. Burger was prepared by a cook who used his blue gloved hands to arrange lettuce, tomato and onion slice on a paper covered plastic basket, and THEN HANDLE THE RAW BURGER WITH THE SAME GLOVES, WITHOUT USING A SPATULA, and back to rearrange tomato, lettuce and onion. We have been sick for hours, with MANY trips to the toilet ever since - and that was lunchtime. ALL of this could be observed by us, perched on the top deck looking down at the burger station. Great food but weird service, or lack there of! We didn't see any signs or directions so just grabbed a couple seats at the bar facing the street. Amazing view!! We sat for awhile and hubby finally went up to the bar to ask about menus and drinks. The guy said sure, here's some menu's, are you going to pay or open a tab! That was it!! We perused the menu, placed our order and sat back down. Pretty quickly somebody was yelling our name!! They delivered the food and drinks, each time yelling out our name as if for the first time!! Between drinks, soup, tacos, oysters and a Polish dog, that was 6 times!! The food was amazing, all of it!! The smoked salmon chowder was thick and rich with just the right amount of salmon and clams. The fish and shrimp tacos both were grilled and nicely spicy, not over powering. The polish dog is huge! Now, those oysters though, they were phenomenal!! Grilled to perfection and the caper broth they add is genius! Happy hour and locally sourced seafood? Yes, please! The host was gracious in giving us directions as it's an order and sit venue and the restroom is semi-hidden downstairs. Such a great outdoor restaurant. Always crowded and you're to seat yourself and order in line. We found a great table in the shade, and we're so happy there. Ethan was our server most of the time, and was he ever great! Catered to all our little desires with a smile! He had great suggestions as well. Go here just to meet him alone! Lol. Last time I came, I had the fish and chips and they were incredible. This time my friend got them and he loved them too. The jalapeño poppers were delicious and I got the chicken salad with blue cheese. Boy, that blue cheese dressing is the best ever!! On Wednesday 09/04/24, I ordered fish & Chips, and fish tacos. The person who took my order was friendly, and the process was smooth. The issue was when I received my order the person said here's your complete order. I thought that was very fast, I asked the person if there was salt, ketchup and malt vinegar inside the package. She said yes. When I got back to the hotel room, missing were the items I asked for and the fish tacos! Returned to the restaurant, informed the manager what happened. Meanwhile the food is cold by now, I did not receive an apology and I asked for a new meal. The manager was very hesitant and not cooperative. I asked for my money back, which they did right away. Lesson learned: always double check food order before leaving the restaurant. Never assume the order is correct. read more

The food was served in plastic baskets but don't let that fool you. We each got a grilled fish and a mixed salad. The fish was a nice sized serving and deliciously seasoned. We eat here often. Every meal has been delicious. It sits above the ferry landing in Friday Harbor, WA. It's a casual eating establishment but the seafood is top notch. The halibut, rock fish, oysters, hamburgers and fish sandwich are my favorites which are always fresh, cooked perfectly, and so tasty. It's mostly open-air seating with a perfect view of the harbor.
