    Prawns
    Amber S.

We ate here a couple years ago and I have been thinking about it ever since. We are finally back and the Salmon Clam Chowder is just as delicious as I remembered. My husband ordered the Cod and we shared the Prawns. My kids got the burgers. Everything was very tasty. And Nick was super friendly and helpful with suggestions for things to do on island. My only complaint is that it's sooo far away from where I live.

View from the top of the fly deck.

The view is great from the fly deck IF you're sitting along the bar. If you're sitting at a table the outside bar aligns perfectly with your eye level so you can't see anything beyond that or the people that sit there. Could be way better with tall chairs & tables. Appetizers we had were ok. Jalapeño poppers were typical deep fried previously frozen poppers. No surprise there. Calamari was disappointing. It was light & somewhat crispy but the coating fell right off when you picked it up. The capers & garlic topping ya'll need to STOP putting that on there. Sure makes it look high end but flavors DO NOT complement the Calamari. Also, PLEASE serve it with a yummy aioli sauce instead of tartar sauce. Strawberry Pina Colada was yummy !! Servers were on top of it and very friendly !! Appreciate that !!

    Fish Tacos. Bland and dry.

Come for the view, not the food. The Fish Tacos were bland and dry, and so was the Salmon. I feel bad saying this, but this is a tourist trap. The food is not good. The burgers and hotdogs are grilled downstairs at the entrance to try to draw you in. I believe everything else is made in the kitchen. It's open seating, so most people decide to sit at the rooftop for the great views. However when your food gets delivered, they don't have a table number system, so they just shout out your name. Another customer had the same name, so there was alot of confusion. The drinks were OK. However on a good note, the bartenders on the rooftop were friendly. I do not recommend.

Great view fast service food is good not great for the prices. Oysters are very large ( grilled) but not my favorite. The crab cakes were small (2) with fries but flavorful

Whole crab for $39.99 with some garlic bread. Fairly priced and tastes fresh.

Every time I'm on the islands, I'll be here more than once. The food is always a hit, service is amazing, food always comes out pretty quick, and atmosphere is enjoyable. I've ate at this restaurant I believe 3 times within a span of two days when I visited Friday harbor for the first time, and then I ate here again everyday this most recent stay! It's REALLY that delicious, and the pricing isn't too bad compared to what a lot of reviews say, but that is beside the point... I'm only giving 2 stars because I overheard a conversation of a male bartender in his late 20's try to joke with a group of elderly women by saying, "don't mind the heavy accents when they call out your name, we hired a lot of Thai kids for the summer," and began laughing obnoxiously. I work in hospitality and I know how far people will go for a decent tip, but this is straight up rude, racist, and extremely unprofessional. I genuinely felt bad for the young individuals who were working, because you can tell they are genuinely trying their best. They provided the best service I've ever received here. The only reason why I'm writing this is because I fear they are too afraid to speak up and defend themselves. Probably will never come back anymore, despite this being on my top 3 favorite spots on the island. Will be warning many folks from the mainland to stay away from here unless things change.

Came multiple days during my trip to San Juan! Our usual fare was alcohol, so I can't speak TOO much on the food, but the fish and chips I got was good. Expensive for what it was, but good enough that I wasn't complaining. Fish was a litter smaller than what I was expecting. For drinks, we got pitchers, cider, cocktails, and everything was good! Just a nice spot to lounge around while waiting for the ferry or to enjoy the sun! Note: you have to pay for water - they say it's for the ice and cups (so not sure if it's free if you bring your own cup and don't ask for ice?) Would and will return!

Wish we didn't go here.. Almost $80 for a badly prepared burger, frozen poppers fried in old fishy oil, tasteless fries and an unacceptable BLT. The BLT had two large bread slices, two teeny bacon slices. Burger was prepared by a cook who used his blue gloved hands to arrange lettuce, tomato and onion slice on a paper covered plastic basket, and THEN HANDLE THE RAW BURGER WITH THE SAME GLOVES, WITHOUT USING A SPATULA, and back to rearrange tomato, lettuce and onion. We have been sick for hours, with MANY trips to the toilet ever since - and that was lunchtime. ALL of this could be observed by us, perched on the top deck looking down at the burger station. Watery drinks in small plastic cups. Extremely unsafe. Should be shut down by the board of health.

The view is great, the fish tacos? Not so much. Ironic that they would serve such a skimpy portion of fish in a harbor town :\ No flavor either. Service/staff are great.

    Fish and chips.

Our party of three visited for lunch at noon on a Thursday. Since we had a reservation, we were seated immediately at a lovely table right by the window. The atmosphere was great, and the staff were incredibly courteous and friendly throughout our meal. We initially thought about starting with some small plates, but we were so eager for seafood that we jumped straight into the entrees. We weren't disappointed: Bouillabaisse: This was our first time trying this dish, and it was the highlight for us. It was incredibly flavorful--exactly what we were craving. Spicy Prawn Mac and Cheese: It definitely lived up to its name! It wasn't "blow-your-head-off" hot, but it had a perfect, noticeable kick that really elevated the dish. Blackened Cod Tacos: These were fantastic. The cod was perfectly prepared and worked so well with the rest of the taco ingredients. We also enjoyed a couple of non-alcoholic drinks that hit the spot, though I'll admit that since I'm writing this a couple of weeks later, I forgot to snag photos or the specific names of the drinks! They also have a really nice patio area if you prefer dining outdoors. Whether you're a seafood lover or just looking for a great meal with a view, this place is a must-visit!

For the nature of the restaurant, we had hoped for our waitress to be more friendly and genuine. However, it felt like they just wanted to fulfill our order and be done. I ordered the South Sound Clams and Snapper Sandwich. Bathing in an umami-packed and rich Thai curry broth, the clams were tender and fresh with a bit of brine. Very good and shareable with one other person. The snapper sandwich wowed me! The bright escovitch and creamy avocado paired wonderfully with the snapper. Every bite was delightful. The house-made potato chips, however, were disappointing. They were thin, not crispy, and sticking to my teeth. If you can, substitute for fries or salad. Despite our subpar service, the delicious, well-priced food and beautiful scenery still make this the perfect date spot.

It actually kind of 5 course as they gave everyone and initial little bite that the chef put together. I can't quite remember what it was, but I think it was some kind of cauliflower blended bite (see first pic). The price was definitely decent for the four course, it wasn't super expensive or anything. I also tried the goat cheese souflee, which was good, the crab roast was better though, then I had the pasta which needed salt and didnt have much flavor. I will say though that someone got the filet mignon and that was really good. The fondue was basic, but the bread and ice cream was amazing! So biggest takeaway is I think this place is really hit or miss. There's some items that are good/great and others that are really not good/great. Unfortunately, our experience ended before we ever made it to a table. When we arrived, the hostess was on the phone. We waited patiently, but there was no acknowledgment of our presence--not even a simple "I'll be right with you." Once she finished her call, we asked for a table for four. Rather than greeting us or explaining the wait in a courteous manner, she simply shook her head and informed us there would be a 40-45 minute wait. The issue was not the wait time; it was the complete lack of hospitality. Had we been greeted warmly and treated like valued guests, we likely would have waited. Instead, we were left with the clear impression that our business was neither wanted nor appreciated. We chose to leave immediately and spent $200+ at another restaurant where we felt welcomed. While I understand that busy restaurants often have long waits, there is no excuse for poor customer service and basic discourtesy. Based on this experience, I will not return, nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.

The ambiance is cozy and warm, feeling like you are invited to dinner at your friends home, if your friend also happens to have an exceptional wine cellar, a farm, and is a wonderful chef. The way Duck Soup executes farm to table with such beautiful presentation is really a treat and the combination of textures and flavors was a journey that is worth a trip to San Juan Island alone. We had wonderful service and we were so grateful for recommendations on how to navigate through the menu! We started with the Spiced Carrots - they were incredibly paired with a salad, cracker, and cheese combo - perfection. For the main course we split the scallops and the filet. Scallops were served with fresh fingerling potatoes and this fresh, citrus/herb forward sauce that was so bright and refreshing (we are still talking about it). The filet was cooked great and served with a Demi glacé that was also just so perfect. the pomme puree was also flavorful and had a lot of amazing flavor on its own! Thank you Duck Soup for making our Anniversary memorable - we can't wait to visit again and again.
