Located by the water in the harbor, this causal spot is built from a couple shipping containers and offers outdoor seating only. Seating is limited, with just a hand full of spots under the umbrellas. The line start forming as soon as they open and stays steady throughout the day. We ordered the two piece Pacific Cod fish and chips. It's easily the best fish&chips I've had to date. The portion was generous, and everything tasted freshly made. The batter was light, airy and perfectly crispy, while the cod was tender, flaky, fried to perfection. The chips are crispy too. Overall a very satisfying meal. A must try if you don't mind a little wait!
Going against the general crowd opinion about fish and chips. Chips actually were very good. 5/5. But fish for me was not as afresh as I expected it to be and the coating felt little thick for my taste. On the other hand the tacones were lip smacking good. We tried ones with cod but the the flavor was highlighted coz of added coriander seeds in their sauce. Loved the coleslaw. Can't eat those deep fried fish without refreshing side due dish. Salmon was also good. 4/5. We stayed in line for good 40 minutes but found a table along the boardwalk. This was on a Monday evening. At 6 PM. Thankfully, all the time busy marina kept our toddler busy. It's a small shack and right between a seaplane harbor and kayak rental. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TACONES!
Went in expecting the classic "touristy spot, overhyped" situation, but left completely converted after the cod fish and chips. I ordered the cod fish and chips ($25), wild salmon tacone ($10.25), and a small salad ($6.50). The fish and chips were the standout: perfectly fried batter, right ratio of crunch to fish, genuinely top-tier. One of the best I've had. The salad, even in the small size, was a generous portion and very fresh. The tacone looked interesting on the menu, but the tortilla and chipotle sauce were so strong they drowned out the salmon. Next time I'd just stick with the fish and chips and salad. We went during peak hours, so it took about 30 minutes total from ordering in line to getting our food, but once ordered, the food itself came out fast, which I appreciated. Seating is outdoors but there are little nooks tucked around, so you're not fighting for a table. On a nice day you get a great view while you eat. No indoor seating that I could see, though, so this isn't the spot for rainy or cold days. Would absolutely come back just for the cod fish and chips.
If you're visiting Victoria and only have time for one seafood stop, make it Red Fish Blue Fish. Located right on the harbor in a repurposed shipping container, this spot serves some of the freshest seafood you'll find on Vancouver Island. The line can get long, but it's worth the wait. My recommendation: get the BC Halibut. Perfectly cooked, flaky, and incredibly fresh, it showcases exactly why Pacific Northwest seafood has such a great reputation. Simple ingredients, expertly prepared, and packed with flavor. Grab your food, find a seat along the waterfront, and enjoy the views while watching the boats come and go. Great food, great location, and a true Victoria classic.
This is a super cute place in the inner harbor. It's right on the water between the air terminal and Victoria Kayak. Easy walk up window with friendly staff and endless fountain drinks (one of which is ice water). I went for the grilled salmon over greens and endless drink (better than bottles of water). The salmon was grilled perfectly and the salad was extremely tasty and plentiful. If you're looking for a casual place with great seafood I recommend Red Fish Blue Fish.
This place is worth the wait. We came in a Sunday afternoon at 5pm and it was one hour total from when we got in line and when we got our food, and I don't regret it. You order at the counter then they call out your name when the food is ready. For how busy they were (and probably always are), the staff is very pleasant and friendly. The fish and chips were super crispy, the fish was tender and perfectly cooked, the fries were crispy and delicious. We got cod fish and chips, and the 1 piece was huge, and also got one piece of fried salmon. The jerk fish tacones was also quite sizable and well flavored. Fair amount of seating right on the water at various outdoor tables and a counter/bar type seating with some umbrella cover. I would definitely recommend this if you're in downtown Victoria and looking for a delicious meal with large portion sizes!
Located alongside the waterside boardwalk right next to the boats and water taxis in the harbor. Seating is outside along the water. The line can get ridiculous mainly due to the cruise ship traffic nearby. We got the fish and chips with cod. The batter is traditional and crispy, the fish is tender and cooked correctly. The fries are crispy as well. There is no service but with their location being prime time on the water, they have a lot of turnaround and fresh ingredients. Best fish and chips we had in town.
Lovely tacones - tortilla wrapped with ingredients in a cone - easy to replicate but execution is phenomenal. I got the albacore tuna and tempura cod tacones which were decently priced and filling - 2 was more than enough for a nice meal. The albacore tuna was prepared medium and fresh and flavorful, and the tempura cod is nicely battered. Both shared similar ingredients like the slaw and it was hard to differentiate the different sauces. Line was long - even on Saturday 4:30pm, it was a 15 min queue and another 10 minutes for food. Lots of ample seating outdoors only, so I can imagine it being more busy on a nicer day like when I visited.
My husband got the 2 piece halibut fish & chips. I can never get at all my chips so we have started sharing a larger order & no more wasted chips. The halibut is perfect-just like I like it. The pieces are generous. One piece is plenty for the average person. The halibut is BC caught, which is great. Tasted fresh and delicious. I like the fresh tasting coleslaw. It isn't that gluggy sweet sugar & mayo combo you get at many places. It was just a simple cut up cabbage nicely seasoned. Maybe it had a little something else on it. Expect a line whenever you go because the word is out. The wait staff was friendly and working hard to keep the line moving. We found a chair up against a narrow wooden "bar" facing the water. It was quite warm so we appreciated the shade of an umbrella.
Delicious fish and chips. I liked that they had classic fish and chips as well as some unique takes. We really liked the jerk fish poutine and the chowder, which is sort of coconut curry flavored. It's a walk up counter order and eat outside spot on the water, which means shaded seating is limited. The line to order was also long. I recommend having one person wait in line while the others hold down seating. It gets pretty busy so it's not necessarily quick, I think from the time to us getting in line to us getting our food was over 30 min, it's absolutely worth it but plan accordingly for time.
1000 times yes ... but be prepared to wait. From the conversations I had this is also a local spot. It is right on the river and everything is fried fresh. The fish is lovely, fries delicious. They are good as the basic or as the wrap. The cod was juiciest but I'm a bit biased.
My daughter and I stopped at Red Fish Blue Fish while stopping in Victoria during our cruise. Red Fish Blue Fish is essentially a glorified food truck. Discover is an accepted form of payment. We stood in line for about 30 minutes before we were able to place our order at the window. Once the order was placed, we waited another 10-15 minutes for our meal to be ready for pick-up. Red Fish Blue Fish does not serve any beer or wine. Personal interaction is minimal and only done at the ordering window and pick-up window. Seating is outdoors, scarce and on a first-come-first serve basis. Wear layers. Restrooms are outhouses. My daughter and I shared the Albacore Tuna on Chips for $18. We had a bottled water for $2.50 each. The day was beautiful so we enjoyed the wharf and the view while eating our lunch.

We had only a few hours to tour the city and grab a bite during our port stop in fair Victoria. The line was dauntingly long, but it moved relatively quickly (really, there are menus posted while you wait, so you should be ready to go when you reach the order window, but my American is showing). Put simply, this is among the best fish and chips I've ever had. I got the one piece halibut and the bisque. The bisque has a chipotle coconut base, and it's unique and delicious. The fish was fried to perfection, and the halibut inside was a steamy triumph. I added some chipotle lime mayo for the chips. The tartar was lemony and crisp. Chips had that perfect crunchy outer shell with the pillowy potato innards. Cooked to perfection fish and chips while you watch the takeoff and landing of seaplanes. O Canada! read more

We heard from fellow travelers that this was the place to get fish and chips, and they weren't wrong! It's a really cool spot right on the pier where you grab your food, find your own seat outside, and enjoy the beautiful water views while you eat. We decided to just order a piece of fish, and wow -- the $15 piece was HUGE! It was fresh, flavorful, and really well prepared. 10 years later, still worth the wait! It's been 10 years since my last visit to Victoria, so stopping by Red Fish Blue Fish was a non-negotiable! The queue was insanely long, and we ended up waiting an hour, but it was completely worth it. First off, the portions are massive. The halibut fish and chips were bigger and thicker than my hand! Because the fish is so fresh, there was zero fishy odor, and the texture was perfectly firm and flaky. We also got the Red Chowder, which had a subtle curry and cumin flavor profile. My husband absolutely loved it! For our third dish, we ordered the salmon taco. The salmon was cooked just right, served in a chewy, nutty tortilla with fresh, crisp coleslaw and a light cumin-accented dressing that balanced everything out beautifully. Since it's an open-air, outdoor setup, seating is quite limited and you have to accept the long wait. However, the turnover is pretty fast, so if you wait a bit, you'll easily snag a spot to sit down. We ordered the exact same menu items as we did 10 years ago, and we're so grateful this special spot with so many memories is still standing strong! read more

This place is awesome. Second time visiting this place as we stop in Victoria on our Alaskan cruise. I had the 3 piece salmon and chips and quite frankly, it could feed 2 people. They are quick at getting your food prepared. I also love that the seating is outside on the dock. read more

Wow!!! The wait in line is worth the wait, it may seem long at times however it does move pretty quickly. The shack is located on the pier so you get a view while waiting. The food is incredibly delicious and fresh. We ordered the two piece cod meal and the days special, halibut tacone. The cod pieces were big, fresh and very flavorful. The fish and chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. There's nothing worse than soggy chips or breading, we walked over to tables by the stage and everything still stayed crispy. The halibut tacone is also very tasty, there was a large piece of deep fried halibut and coleslaw wrapped in a tortilla. We almost got in line again for another however since they give you big pieces of fish it fills you up. If we are ever in the area we will definitely be stopping by again, highly recommended! read more
Literally incredible every time. The fish and chips are sooo crispy and delicious! And the chowder is literally the star of the show- out of this world. The staff is also always friendly!! Wow! We had such a delicious lunch at Red Fish Blue Fish today! The service was quick for such a long line of patrons. The restaurant sits right on the inner harbor & is loved by both locals & visitors. Try the chowder. It's to die for! Mmm read more
Perfect meal. Friendly service. Beautiful ambiance. You really just can't ask for much more. Everything on the menu is delicious - all the fish wraps and filets are cooked perfectly. The soup is also a nice way to wash everything down. You overlook the harbor and can see boats docking as you munch on the result of their labor. read more
Wow, best fish and chips I have ever had. This place looks so unassuming, I did not expect this little tiny place operating out of a shipping container to be so good, but every time we walked past it, it had a line of people and it turned out to be the best food we had on our trip to Victoria. The fish was fresh, hot, and perfectly battered and fried. Fries were so good. Grilled salmon was great and loved the toppings. The chowder was soooo good too. Great place to hang out by the water too with lots of seating. So good!! read more
Noticed this place because of the long lines I see when I visit Victoria. So glad I checked it out as it's some of the best fish & chips i've ever had. Basically a shack with some seating spots along the marina. Has its charm and nice views while being outdoors. Servers are friendly and the process is straightforward. Order and wait for them to call your name. I tried the tacone, which is basically a wrap with the ingredients. Not bad, but the star of the show is their fish & chips. Excellent batter on the fish - not too thick, nicely fried, crunchy, and tasty. I got mine with cod and it was moist, tender, and BIG. The fish pieces are nicely sized and generous. Their French fries (chips) are also very well made. Good flavor even without ketchup. Definitely tried this place out if you're in town. It's worth the wait. read more

Had to stop here prior to getting on the ferry back to Port Angeles. The flavor and freshness of the ingredients was amazing. We got the Wild Salmon Tacones and the Cod Dog. I don't know what's in the million island sauce but my goodness I need more of that in my life. Both dishes were phenemonal but I would order the Wild Salmon Tacones again and again and again. The Cod Dog was worth it but it's pretty rich and decadent. read more

This little food stand is located along the harbor. First time I passed by it was around 4:00 and there was no one in line. I came back with the family around 6:00 and I ended up waiting over 30 minutes before it was my turn to order. I only ordered the chowder and 1 piece BC Halibut fish and chips meal as my kids don't like fish, so we planned on eating somewhere else for them. Fish was tasty, fries were crisp, chowder was great but was super hot! We left it alone for a while to cool off before we could consume it. The coleslaw was yummy too! Limited seating available. They have a few chairs under umbrellas - but no proper table, just a low table, so we were hunched over our food. There are some counters you could stand along side, and a few tables towards the rear of the restaurant. This place earned a 5 star because they make fish tasty enough for my non fish eating kids. They liked it so much, I only ended up having a couple bites of the fish - darn I should have ordered more. read more

Food - ok im not a fish taco person, so i got the sweet potato and dang it was delicious. who would have thought. very crisp & fresh. they gave my pup a little salmon treat too. Service - very friendly once you get to the front of the very long line, basically no matter what time of day you go. Ambiance - no indoor seating, try to find a spot somewhere on the pier. theres plenty of seats and umbrellas but this place is beyond busy. they even have their own stop if you are taking the water taxis. the line wrapped around the dock and went up the ramp and we were there on a weekday in the AFTERNOON. not even a standard meal time. we passed by this place on the water taxi later at night and it was stilllllll busy! i will say though, worth the wait for me and i didnt even have the fish. read more

To manage your expectations, a couple things first: This is not a fancy sit down restaurant. This is a place where you will likely stand in line 30-45 minutes to queue up to the order window. (Bring a book?) This place has amazing food! Drink selection is non-alcoholic. Views are great and right on the waterfront. There are some seats or stand up area to eat your food but they do not offer table service. I had a bowl of chowder and split the 2-piece halibut and chips. But were great (big piece of fish in the the chowder!) and we split a sprite (Coke products are offered as fountain drinks and they have a couple of other sodas by the can). Food was piping hot and the fries were great! We had good weather (but it was a little blustery and cool in the shade so be prepared). We enjoyed watching the seaplanes, seagulls and water taxis. Overall, nice place for a casual and delicious meal!! read more
Fresh, hot, barely there batter fish and chips with a leafy pickled salad and light slaw with malt vinegar and lemon-dill Cesar dressing? Perfection--no notes! It was a typical PNW drizzle on a Thursday early evening and we finally had room to try this happening place. Service was quick and thoughtful with a variety of choices for such a small place. Umbrellas held up nicely against the rain and the root beer should be called Heinz 57 because they literally threw it all in there. Will be back every time we are here! read more

It's right on the dock so you can watch the beautiful sun set over the water as you eat your food bar stool style We ordered essentially all their different fish on the fish and chips (wild salmon, BC halibut, pacific cod). Our favorite was the halibut. The fries were well seasoned and crispy. FISH AND CHIPS Tempura battered with tartar sauce, coleslaw and chips BC Halibut Pacific Cod Wild Salmon 1 piece meal $23 $17.50 $17.50 2 piece meal $34 $24 $24 We also ordered the chowder. Very unique and interesting with the coconut milk. Creamy. And there was ample seafood that you are not skimped on contents of soup. We ordered the BC Halibut Fish and Chips and the Jerk Fish Tacone. Both items were absolutely delicious! The coleslaw and tartar sauce were great as well. As good as they say it is. We got there at about 11:30 on a Thursday so only had to wait a few minutes to order and then ten minutes for our food. Waiting (-and eating) were done at bar stools looking out at the water watching minnows swim and ships dock. We ordered the two piece salmon and chips - they knew we were splitting so kindly gave us two containers. The salmon was awesome - the right amount of crispy batter and perfectly cooked salmon inside. The fries and slaw were delicious - fries were crispy outside and soft inside - slaw was cool and crunchy and a nice accent to all the grease. Tartar sauce also delicious.
