The rosey matcha had a more apparent flavor but otherwise felt fairly standard for a matcha. There's another major coffee shop in Lopez Island nearby, so either here or there would be good candidates for coffee or other drinks that are more innovative than the standard I wish they published prices for the seasonals since we were left to guess and wait for the total, in which case may be awkward to ask for a breakdown of the drink prices. Prices are on par with other coffee shops in the area like Isabel's but a tad bit cheaper since we got both drinks at a larger cup (16oz). I'd wish if they provided prices of the specialty drinks, so we can decide how much coffee we want to get to start our day here.

And, to top it off, the shop owner (?) came up and handed me a peach pastry that is vegan saying "It's not often that dairy-free people get to enjoy a sweet." Once at the counter, pleasantly greeted and our order taken for a cortado, one of each of the featured focaccias, and a buckwheat chocolate chip cookie. We sat at a two top by a window which allowed us to take in the late morning sunshine and see all the birds on the trees outside. The cortado was spot on and served in a handmade cup. The focaccias were substantial and had a great tang. The buckwheat chocolate chip cookie was tasty day of and day after. I enjoyed also seeing the production baking area that was visible behind the main retail counters. Seeing the bakers shape the loaves, dipped into the seed mixture, and placed into bannetons arranged on speed carts to proof before baking.

This place was absolute perfection from start to finish. Relaxed but upscale environment. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff. The sommelier was also great. He was so clearly loving his job and it showed. He described each wine and its characteristics with enthusiasm and excitement. This was the first time I'd ever had wines that were so nicely paired with each course. Quite eye opening, for me at least. There are some public restrooms nearby if you walk down the pier a bit. The cafe shares a location with what appears to be a whale excursion/souvenir shop. It's clean and has plenty of seating. I got one of their specials, smoked salted maple. The espresso is smooth and the drink doesn't seem to be all ice. I will say I couldn't taste the maple, like at all. All I tasted was salt. I didn't end up finishing it due to this, but I'd be willing to give it another try if I find myself back on the island.
