After a weekend of camping, my friends and I were in search of a place to refresh ourselves before heading to the ferry terminal. We stumbled upon this place after a quick Google search for nearby breweries and I am so glad my friends and I came across this gem! Upon entering, I immediately noticed the vibrant lush greenery hanging from the ceiling - love!! The restaurant oozes cozy but nature-y vibes and we were very excited to try their signature brews. We waited briefly to be sat on the patio. After being seated, a kind waitress immediately came over and gave us suggestions on drinks. While my friends are avid beer drinkers, I myself prefer ciders so I ordered the watermelon smash and it was so yummy! My friend also loved her flight which featured a variety of different beers. The oceanside lager was the overall favourite in the entire group. Another honourable mention was the fuzzy peach tasting beer which I really enjoyed despite not being a beer drinker. My boyfriend and I ordered the chowder and ribs to share. Despite the food taking quite some time to arrive, it was well worth the wait. My pick is definitely the chowder as it was packed with seafood and flavour! The added bannock was also very delicious - we shared it with our friends and they ended up devouring most of it haha. All I can say is wow!! This place hits every mark. From the amazing beer choices to the incredible food, and even the service was outstanding. The Turtle cove beer was a huge surprise, was our favorite! Even our 9 year old daughter loved the food and vibe. Definitely recommend coming here. You won't be disappointed. read more

This is a review only for the beer, but also the atmosphere. We were delighted to see such a beautiful, bright and lush green brewery with aesthetically pleasing wall decor that matched even their beer cans. We were greeted quickly and got to choose our own seats. My husband got the winter ale which cost $8.50 for a 20 ounce glass. I opted for a flight paddle, which consisted of 4 six ounce tasters For $10 My husband's winter ale was absolutely delicious and I really enjoyed my four options which included a Hefeweizen, a dark lager, a light IPA, and a tropical ale. I'm somebody who usually likes sours, but these beers all tasted pretty good to me! I think I liked the Hefeweizen most. We were too full from our lunch, but saw some really unique and tasty food items, including cinnamon bannock with ice cream, curry, adobo, and tofu bites and more. What an interesting fusion of food options. If we lived in Qualicum, I have a feeling we would be here regularly as the space is so beautiful and it looks like they put together community events. read more

Atmosphere is nice (the cedar planters full of ferns hanging from the ceiling is a nice touch), and the food was good. They have a nice selection of beer to choose from too. Service on our visit was very slow, so it was almost 90 minutes total to get our lunch completed. We'll be back! read more

I loved the design of this place. Was a bit taken aback by high pricing. The shrimp and lobster lettuce wraps sounded great. No mention on the menu of the fact they would be battered and deep fried. Really did not expect that and even though I tried, did not care at all for this. I had even trimmed the lettuce wedge that came with it. It was old- obviously cut more than a day ago, based on the cuts that had gone rusty and the bruised outer leaf. Why be so lazy, chef? You can't trim the obvious-old-lettuce evidence? Server was very nice and replaced it with the chowder. That took a wait that was longer than expected and was another mistake I made. Who minces all the ingredients in chowder??? Not kidding. Minced clams and smoked salmon and whatever other seafood was in it. Minced veggies. The texture was horrible. I liked the flavour though, and tried to get some nourishment from the very little creamy broth I could strain out. Thankfully my lunch friends had extra salad and fries (really delicious, actually) so though, I'm still hungry I'm okay but disappointed. This place was supposed to be the best! My lunch friends enjoyed their steak and cheeseburger, so that's why 2 stars from me. My advice: go for the ambiance and beer and don't order seafood. read more

Been going to Qualicum to visit my wife's family for over a decade now and I generally dread the restaurant and bar options (it has an older demographic), HOWEVER, F&C is a place I'd highly recommend. This is a great addition to a town that desperately needs better food and brews. Being from Colorado, where craft brewing kicked off decades ago in the US, I'm picky about my IPAs...F&C's were delicious and the food was excellent (our 5 and 8 year old even liked it). If you are in Qualicum this is the only place to go in my opinion. Just a short walk from the Main Street and a refreshing spot. read more

Good food and drinks, great service, and absolutely beautiful decor! The kitchen closes at 8 PM FYI, but the bar stays open later. There is a dog friendly patio area, but it was closed early due to be short staffed so we had to leave the dog in the car. 5/10 on the indoor chairs--totally fine. 10/10 on gender neutral bathroom. read more

A fantastic new brewery in Qualicum with great brews and exceptional food! I am totally obsessed with the aesthetic and branding of Fern + Cedar as well. The colours are PNW through and through. My partner and I were driving through from Ucluelet and wanted to stop for lunch before heading back on the ferry home to Vancouver and we're so happy we ended up here. We ordered a flight each to ensure we tried all their beers. My fave was their dark ale which tasted like a crispy cold coffee infused beer, just delish! My second favourite was prob their lager, a German style lager which was ice cold and crisp. Great for washing down salty fries! For lunch we weren't starving so we ordered the truffle Parmesan fries to share and a bowl of seafood chowder. The food runner brought out two bowls by accident and our waitress was apologetic and gave us the second bowl for free! The staff was so friendly, and asked how everything was and I could hear every other table around us saying how delicious everything was. The seafood chowder is a standout! Big chunks of smoked salmon, crab and clams throughout and perfectly chopped carrots, celery and potato! The flavour was outta this world! Highly recommend you order this dish! As for the fries, we saw other tables order these on our way in and the smell sells them alone! We immediately knew we had to get them. They certainly lived up to our expectations. Perfectly salted, light on the truffle and parm, crispy coating and soft on the inside. Also I love a thinner fry and these were just that! Overall we had a wonderful experience at this brewery and I'm always blown away with some of the food breweries are serving these days. Exceptional job! Monday is not the easiest day to find a place to eat on short notice so off we set to find somewhere to go for a casual meal in Parksville and we just kept driving until we got to Qualicum Beach. We were about to turn around when I cited Fern and Cedar, I had wanted to go there with Karla, and now is the perfect opportunity. It was very busy and they were very accommodating. It began with a very warm greeting and even a short explanation about the decor and the different plants. It's a really stylish and vibrant restaurant. I wouldn't say the prices are reasonable, but then again, you've got to pay for quality and we certainly got that in abundance. I ordered a chicken sandwich which came classic styled, and was absolutely delicious. I never rate french fries. I don't consider them a challenge for any chef, so we will just concentrate on both Karla's burger, which I had a bite of my aforementioned chicken sandwich, it was so good I plopped a $10 tip on the serving counter for the cooks, who a couple of minutes to explain the recipe. We eat out at least once a week and we have certain restaurants that we go to for certain types of meals. This is my go to place when I want an awesome chicken sandwich it was on a soft brioche bun with pickles adding a nice crunchy moist flavour. They're short staffed but we didn't notice any delays in getting a table, having our order taken or getting our food. My husband had the cheese burger with fries and I had the chowder with bannock. Great place to have in Qualicum Beach. Beer and wine selections are all good. Food menu is limited but is good. My only suggestion is for there to be an additional menu listing the rotating taps for the patio. Yes there is one but is not easily viewed on all sections of the patio. Patrons have to leave their table to view. If ordering a flight then you have to memorize the ones you want. Even a portable one that the server can bring the tables would be good. All in all happy to have this brew pub here read more
