Another years camping trip has passed but we always go to rusted rake for an early dinner and drink Can't say enough good this about this place I love sitting on the patio smelling the cedar siding I had the cod burger instead of the Westcoast bowl this time both are great the beer is great and the staff are happy in their jobs and provide top notch service great logo swag and a farm setting I think I told a dozen other campers and all who went came by to thank us saying how great it was

Hands down two thumbs up micro-brews, grub, hospitality, indoor/outdoor seating and live music by solo vocalist playing electric guitar and fiddle this Wednesday night! Visiting the Island first time, our Parksville friends raked us over to this brew pub. Springford farm pastures are adjacent to the pub. We passed by to see 2 very extra large bull steers out front. Some beef from Springford pastures made it onto my plate. I'm thankful for this burger and homemade chips along with a couple Angler IPA's with wife and friend. Good times, food and libations! This place packed out as we arrived early! Go for it!

Super happy we pulled off here on our way through Nanoose Bay. It was snowing but the warmth of the fire place and farmhouse decor was perfected with the snowy backdrop. I might have to move here solely because of how amazing this brewery is!! Ok ok maybe there's many other reasons to love the island but being from the mainland, we are spoiled with great breweries. The thing is, it's rare to find a brewery where the same time and attention that is provided by the brewmaster, is also given by the chef and kitchen staff. We tried the chowder (pictured is the small portion), burger, brisket dip, and kids pasta. All were worth the 5 stars. My ultimate favourite were the house made pickles. Didn't notice if these are for sale in their little merch store but I'll be checking when I made it back sometime.

The wait was worth it for their long overdue reopening. Great atmosphere. Large rough sawn wood roofed patio. Plus big grass area for kids and dogs. Food was excellent. Cobb salad with homemade chorizo. Also the burnt bits appetizer. My friend had the Mac and cheese and commented it needs more salt, so put more salt on it! Good selection of beer on tap too from their own on-site brewery. It was packed but was served in a timely manner. Great place in a perfect setting.

Wonderfully friendly service. We sat in the outdoor area and enjoyed a beautiful sunny day under an umbrella. Great beer flight! We also ate the poutine (gravy was so flavorful!) and the spicy chicken burger with a side of the house salad. Would absolutely return if we're back on Vancouver island!

We were visiting from the mainland and decided to try this place. Upon arriving, we noticed a lineup and knew that had to be a good sign. Wow, we were blown away. This place is great. Delicious food, attentive service, beautiful view. We sat on the patio, where let me tell you the best part...dogs are welcome. The must try is the chowder. Fresh muscles, class, lox and scallop. It could have been a meal in itself, but I'm glad I left room for their feature of the day. The Arctic Char. Hands down the best meal I've had in probably 10 years. We'll be back again...I promise.

Today I had the pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream in the perfect amounts and I didn't even need the syrup (but it was there just in case). The food arrived quickly and it was good and hot. My hubby had the Classic double-egger, 3 pcs. bacon and sourdough toast and it was also delicious. We wish we could be here for their 6 year anniversary but we'll be back in the states. We will seek out other Ricky's on our travels but this one is definitely our favorite. The building and interior are very inviting. A great restaurant we have found.

The server we had just made our day!! None of us can say enough about him. He had us laughing as soon as we sat down. He also picked up on the fact that we wanted to pay for one of the friends meals and she told him "no". He went with the majority and gave her a bill that said "Your friends adore you" and the amount was $0.00 Wish I could remember his name! Service above and beyond. We all enjoyed our food as well!

It was so intriguing that we decided to make the five minute drive next door, just to have lunch. Set near the water on the local resort, the restaurant looked like a converted mansion from the olden days, so it was real treat for me. All the windows were open which provided a nice cool summer breeze (so effective that we had to wear our jackets). There was also plenty of picnic table seating outside, and quite a number of folks chose to brave the winds to eat there. The hubby eventually settled on the generously sized Mac and Cheese while I went for the equally generous portioned Popcorn Shrimp. Between the shrimp, house salad and fries, it was a very satisfying meal. The shrimp claw and fries were deep fried just right, and I had enough house salad to feel like I was trying to be healthy. I tried a bit of the rich and creamy mac and cheese (mouthwateringly delicious), and I felt the portion was big enough and rich enough for two meals. It felt like it was good value and portioned pub food for the price you pay. If you are staying at the nearby resorts in Parksville, definitely worth a trip there!

I live a 20 minute drive away from the store but I drive there 3-4 times a week to grab a salad. 2-3 times there either are no salads at all made that day or they have the one kind (chef salad) which I don't care for. It's a waste of an hour for me to drive there only to find..... nada. I guess I'm going to have to start making my own salads because I'm tired of the disappointment. Sigh.

But I ended up in what I can only describe as a full-blown carrot cake standoff. I purchased a slice of carrot cake, only to discover, once home, that it contained shredded coconut. I loathe coconut. The texture is unmistakable to anyone who's ever had it (and hates it). So I drove back the next day and politely asked if I could swap it for something else, not a refund, just a coconut-free treat. What followed was like something out of a sitcom. The staff convened a mini tribunal. The cake was taken behind closed doors and inspected. I was assured that the recipe ONLY contained walnuts (and was not to believe my own eyes - and taste buds). I was even handed a new slice and told, confidently, "No coconut here." I opened the box and pointed right at the flecks of the offending ingredient. Still - the manager insisted: "That's walnut." Spoiler alert: it wasn't. The level of denial was surreal. What could've been a simple, friendly interaction instead turned defensive and weirdly authoritarian. No accountability. No flexibility. Just "take it or leave it" and I left with less respect for a business I truly wanted to support. This isn't just about taste. It's about trust. If staff don't know what's in their own products (or worse, deny what's clearly there), it raises concerns for anyone with dietary sensitivities or allergies. I've attached photos of the cake slices for reference. If you love coconut and confrontation, this might be your jam. If not....well, you've been warned.
