First stop in Cumberland was for some beers and food at Cumberland Brewing Co. They're located across the street from Riders Pizza and Biblio Taco is only a few steps away. We dropped in on a Sunday (around 12:30pm) and it was busy. We snagged a table inside but most were outside on the patio. Service is friendly and sweet but the waitresses didn't seem to be knowledgeable on the beers. There's 5 staple beers to choose from along with a couple rotating/one-off flavours, wine and cider (Ravens Moon Craft Cider and Salt Spring Wild Cider) options. They have a very limited food menu. - Flight ($8.47 for 5) - kolsch, kveik ISA hummlesnurr, dunkelweizen, the dancing linebacker oatmeal stout and barley wine. Our favourite of the bunch was the barley wine; you really get the wine flavour without the barley funk. The kolsch was unmemorable. The kveik ISA was a light hazy but with very subtle fruit notes. Dunkelweizen (dark German wheat beer) and the oatmeal stout were both decent. - Kombucha ($2.38) - sencha green tea. Light but lacking in carbonation. - Muffalata ($8.52 for half order) - half order was a good portion. We don't order many Italian subs but this hit the spot. The peperoncini pepper was sweet with a mild kick to it. Would get this again. - Chorizo black bean and corn soup ($7.85) - came with a slice of focaccia bread. Chorizo bits were tasty and the soup was a perfect companion on a cold, wet rainy day. Portion size is a touch on the small side. CB's beers were what we expected but the food was a pleasant surprise.

Had a lovely lunch: pulled pork on cornbread, burrata salad, and a muffuletta sandwich, all very tasty. I enjoyed the British bitter on nitro as well.

I love everything about this place. People seem to enjoy working and being there in general, which is a good sign. The beers were fantastic. I had a chance to try the "Just a little bitter" and their "Black and Tan". I enjoyed both, but loved the "Black and Tan", which was a mixture of their Oatmeal stout and another beer. We ordered their Lumberman Lunch, which was their meat and cheese plate on roids. The plate had 2 types of cheese (hard cheese and blue cheese), ham, salami, thick cut chicken breast pieces, jam, tapenade, cocktail onions, pickles, olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, butter lettuce and foccacia bread. So perfect with our cold beers and enough variety. Cucumberland Brewery is also extremely kid friendly. They have a basket of toys, designated stroller parking and a change table inside the washroom.

Edible, but this is no where near what a falafel is.

Sorry, but Cumberland Brewing didn't cut it for me amidst so many glowing reviews. It started off with a bang, but ended with a whimper. My partner and I opted for a couple of flights, and we both enjoyed all the beers we tried. The personal standout for me was the Just a Little Bitter English Bitter which came oh so close to the taste of a classic English bitter. The Red Tape Pale Ale was also very good. The brewpub offers inside seating plus a great outdoor patio area with ample seating. A full kitchen offers a wide range of menu items. My partner thoroughly enjoyed her chili carne that was served without beans. The food I had was questionable. I had a bite of my partner's chili and found it bland, but there was a decent amount of meat in it. The falafel plate was, without a doubt, not good. The flavourless falafels were mealy chick pea patties that quickly fell apart into pieces. Our server, while friendly, knew little about beer - I had to explain to her what an ESB (Extra Special Bitter) was and how it differed from a regular bitter. But perhaps the biggest issue came when, after spending close to $50 on beer and food, another server refused one litre growler fills because our containers, Howe Sound flip-top bottles, were unacceptable, the very same bottles we had filled less than an hour later at another craft brewery. I wouldn't go out of my way to make a return visit here. Not recommended.

Nothing better than a craft brew on an open air patio after a mountain bike ride on the nearby legendary trails. Unfortunately I wasn't here on a Friday - when they serve cast style.

Great patio, and good beer. I sampled a few and can say I highly recommend the "Just a Little Bitter - English Bitter"

We stumbled upon this place after a quick Google search for nearby breweries and I am so glad my friends and I came across this gem! Upon entering, I immediately noticed the vibrant lush greenery hanging from the ceiling - love!! The restaurant oozes cozy but nature-y vibes and we were very excited to try their signature brews. We waited briefly to be sat on the patio. After being seated, a kind waitress immediately came over and gave us suggestions on drinks. While my friends are avid beer drinkers, I myself prefer ciders so I ordered the watermelon smash and it was so yummy! My friend also loved her flight which featured a variety of different beers. The oceanside lager was the overall favourite in the entire group. Another honourable mention was the fuzzy peach tasting beer which I really enjoyed despite not being a beer drinker. My boyfriend and I ordered the chowder and ribs to share. Despite the food taking quite some time to arrive, it was well worth the wait. My pick is definitely the chowder as it was packed with seafood and flavour! The added bannock was also very delicious - we shared it with our friends and they ended up devouring most of it haha. I recommend this place especially if you're not from around the area as it has great ambiance and food.

I got a flight of the glowing embers ale, kelp stout, dark lager, and spruce tree ale. Dark beers are usually my favourite, but my favourite out of this batch might have actually been the glowing embers, which was described as a candied smoked ale. The caramelly/smoky combination was great. The kelp stout was interesting - I found it had a slightly vegetal finish but wasn't overtly kelpy. If you like stouts, you'll probably like this. All the beers were very enjoyable. The spruce tree ale and kelp stout are probably the two to try if you want something uniquely local. The Japanese street food truck outside was also fantastic! You can grab food from them and bring it inside the brewery. They also have bar snacks (pretzels, chips) inside. The building is cool. There are front and back patios, a spacious main floor, and a hidden, cozier second floor. The bartender that served me was very friendly. I noticed that the staff was very diligent about clearing tables inside but not so much outside, I saw a table on the patio that had abandoned empty glasses sitting on it when I went out to pick up my food truck order and still there when I left.

We were pleasantly surprised by a small, but nice brewpub with board games to boot. They didn't have any tables for four because of reservations, but we were able to sit at the bar and set our kids up with a game of Battleship while we had some beer and food. The beer wasn't world class, but also didn't disappoint. The unicycle sour IPA, was my standout, but the porter and monster mash IPA were also good. The rest were fine, but not amazing. The food was (if anything) better than the beer. The plain cheese pizza my son got was good and had nicely browned cheese all over. The sauce was a bit on the sweet side, but not unpleasantly so. I'd probably lean more into pizza next time even if it's a bit too carb heavy. The spuds (potato wedges) were only OK. I got the Thai chicken salad, which was spicy with great greens and good chicken. Nice and fresh. My wife seemed to be less enamored of her bahn mi burger, but still said it was good. The service was attentive and happy to accommodate us and our kids. Would definitely come again.
