Fireplace adds a lot of warmth to this place.

For breweries this place gets big stars for location to downtown, great decor, nice beer selections and reasonable prices for a beer. Additionally if you are with a designated driver there is a coffee and tea selection. The eats are limited but the place has enough to balance your beer selections. They clearly feature local artists (music) but didn't get a chance to hear what Nanaimo has to offer. Lots of options for seating. Nice day. Patio. Cold. Near the fireplace. Games to play (board one that is. Tables for that. Well executed Neighbourhood brewery.

Can't decide? Take a flight!

The place itself is clean and simple. You come in, your order a beer (or several beers), and enjoy! Now, I'm a huge beer fan and living in the Pacific Northwest has spoiled us because we're surrounded by great craft breweries in Western Washington. Lucky for us, we're in Vancouver for Craft Beer Week. Now for the review: I had a flight of the following: Departure Bay Session Ale Old City Smash II Mount Benson IPA Snake Island CDA After visiting a couple of breweries in Vancouver, we stopped here in Nanaimo after a day of cycling. I ordered the above and...liked every single one of them! I think the vibe here is better than any of the breweries in Vancouver (even though we only visited 2 of them). If you're ever in Nanaimo, you owe it to yourself to stop at White Sails and give them a try.

Great beer and great snacks after a hike on Newcastle Island. Had the pretzels with beer cheese and the baked brie. Both complimented the beer flight perfectly.

Drove to Nanaimo and stopped in at the White Sails Brewery for a Flight sampler. Smash: clean crisp but a more bitter aftertaste than a traditional light beer. (2.5/5) Yellowpoint Pale: also crisp but flat in taste (2.5/5) Red cream: traditional cream taste. Smooth with mellow aftertaste (3/5) IPA: great aroma, traditional IPA taste with strong bitter taste. Nice atmosphere but beer was quite plain. Staff were friendly but beer was 25% higher then other breweries on the island.

Flight!

Of the 3 breweries in Nanaimo I'd say this is my favourite, despite only being a couple years old. They already have national and international acclaim with their Mt. Benson IPA and Snake Island CDA. One best IPA in Canada and one best Dark IPA in the world (World Beer Awards). They also offer craft sodas and wine if beer isn't your thing. They have delicious home made soft pretzels with beer-cheese sauce. They encourage ordering or bringing food from other restaurants in Nanaimo to eat with your beer. They also have 2 "guest taps" that they rotate from breweries around BC which I love. Get to try something new on tap.

Quiet after 8pm on Sunday.

Since I live without walking distance of the brewery, I'm biased: this is a great place to grab a beer. Lots of room to hang with friends. WiFi available. Munchies available. Great coffee from Regard Coffee Company. This place has been reliable for good customer service.

Excellent beer, cool vibe and friendly service. I had a flight of the Yellowpoint Pale Ale, Mount Benson IPA, Snake Island CDA and Gallows Point Chocolate Porter and liked all of them. I will definitely come back to White Sails on my next trip to Nanaimo.

Beers were good and brewed right there but take a hard pass on the food. They even screwed up nachos.

Great local brewery and an awesome atmosphere. Be nice if the growler line up was separate from the dine in lineup.

We stumbled upon this place after a quick Google search for nearby breweries and I am so glad my friends and I came across this gem! Upon entering, I immediately noticed the vibrant lush greenery hanging from the ceiling - love!! The restaurant oozes cozy but nature-y vibes and we were very excited to try their signature brews. We waited briefly to be sat on the patio. After being seated, a kind waitress immediately came over and gave us suggestions on drinks. While my friends are avid beer drinkers, I myself prefer ciders so I ordered the watermelon smash and it was so yummy! My friend also loved her flight which featured a variety of different beers. The oceanside lager was the overall favourite in the entire group. Another honourable mention was the fuzzy peach tasting beer which I really enjoyed despite not being a beer drinker. My boyfriend and I ordered the chowder and ribs to share. Despite the food taking quite some time to arrive, it was well worth the wait. My pick is definitely the chowder as it was packed with seafood and flavour! The added bannock was also very delicious - we shared it with our friends and they ended up devouring most of it haha. I recommend this place especially if you're not from around the area as it has great ambiance and food.

We were pleasantly surprised by a small, but nice brewpub with board games to boot. They didn't have any tables for four because of reservations, but we were able to sit at the bar and set our kids up with a game of Battleship while we had some beer and food. The beer wasn't world class, but also didn't disappoint. The unicycle sour IPA, was my standout, but the porter and monster mash IPA were also good. The rest were fine, but not amazing. The food was (if anything) better than the beer. The plain cheese pizza my son got was good and had nicely browned cheese all over. The sauce was a bit on the sweet side, but not unpleasantly so. I'd probably lean more into pizza next time even if it's a bit too carb heavy. The spuds (potato wedges) were only OK. I got the Thai chicken salad, which was spicy with great greens and good chicken. Nice and fresh. My wife seemed to be less enamored of her bahn mi burger, but still said it was good. The service was attentive and happy to accommodate us and our kids. Would definitely come again.

The service was friendly and attentive and the cooks made the food super fast. The French press earl gray was very good. It was a great family restaurant. It was overall a great experience.
