Pulled pork, sausage, and ribs with cornbread
    Cin C.

We purposely drove 30 minutes the wrong way to try this BBQ and we found it to be mixed reviews. We ordered two combos so that we could try pretty much all the different meats: pulled pork, brisket, smoked chicken, sausage and ribs. The clear winner of the meal was the brisket. It was the perfect balance of fat and meat, with little to no sauce. Cooked perfectly so that it tears apart with a fork and melts in the mouth. Very nicely done. The ribs would be my second choice as it was quite decent. Unfortunately, I couldn't give it another star as the rest of the items were okay. I found the smoked chicken too dry and the house BBQ sauce too strong on the vinegar. It is up to personal taste, but would have preferred if the sauces were different so not everything tasted like vinegar. Okay, but wouldn't drive 30 min for it next time.

I do not understand why this place is rated so highly. I tried their cornbread, and it tasted bland and dry. The ribs I ordered was tender, but that was the only thing going for them. I could tell that the meat was boiled and then quickly finished off on the grill rather than slow-cooked. It really had no flavor and cannot compare to something that has been smoked for hours. I had to use extra BBQ sauce to make it edible.

    Bbq platter for 2

We had the BBQ platter for 2 and it is definitely for more than 2 people if they were to eat all the sides. There were more sides than the BBQ itself. Unfortunately, it was too much for 2 people to eat a whole box of fries and containers of beans and coleslaw. The BBQ itself was a good size for 2 people. Everything was delicious except for the sausage which was rather bland. The coleslaw was a sour version which is not what I'm used to and the beans tasted like a vegetable soup. Wasn't sure what to make of them. The fries were good.

Nanaimo bars - White chocolate dulce de Leche (left), dark chocolate bacon (right) - $3.75 each

Bacon + Nanaimo bar? Woohoo! This feature item was actually was brought me in. Then I learned they were featured on 'You Gotta Eat Here' so I thought it was worth a stop! Had the fried chicken, mozzarella sticks, fries, pulled pork sandwich, and both of their Nanaimo bars (bacon + dark chocolate and white chocolate dulce de Leche). Loved the fries and Nanaimo bars... white chocolate one was the best! Fried chicken is on the drier side and smaller pieces. Still tasty - they have the thin crispy skin kind, not the thicker batter type. Pulled pork was described as a little vinegary tasting but ok. Skip the mozza sticks. Worth a stop. Decent meal but my favourite part was the dessert!

I was very excited about trying smoking George's out since I moved here last year and finally got the chance to! I ordered the BBQ feast (good for 2-3 hungry people) for takeout. It comes with BBQ ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, pulled chicken, and a bratwurst sausage. Accompanying the meal was cornbread, fries, beans, and slaw. We also got BBQ sauce with our meal. Overall good portions for the price and super friendly staff! Pickup from the restaurant was easy and efficient as well. However, I was a bit disappointed with the meats. The pulled pork was tender and juicy, tasted great with the sauce. The BBQ ribs were dry and underseasoned, any meat that didn't touch the outside was flavorless. Similarly, we expected the beef brisket to be juicy and smokey, but it was dry and rather bland. It was however, quite tender. The chicken was nice, I really enjoyed the pickles with them. Chicken could have been juicier too. The bratwurst had good flavors and a nice crunchy skin. We enjoyed our sides a lot, the cornbread was moist, beans were delicious, and the slaw's acidity was perfect with the heavy meats. The fries were half burnt though, but the unburnt ones were crunch and fluffy! In the end, it was a decent meal, a bit monotonous with the flavors and bland, but great service and packaging! We also did have enough food for another meal :)

Let's all appreciate that they have a sink that exists outside of the washroom for hand washing purposes. That's important and I like it a lot. However, the convenient hand washing sink is not the highlight of this BBQ place. Obviously it's the BBQ. My friend and I shared the BBQ brisket plate with a side of the mac. Oooh dang was that ever a great way to get out island road trip started! I would definitely say that was enough food to share between two people. If I ate it all by myself it would be an immediate food coma - a delightful food coma - but I'd sleep through the road trip which was not the objective here. The beef brisket was tender and Smokey and the sauce was tasty. Very easy to devour without regrets. The Mac was creamy and satisfying and all the comfort a bowl of carbs can offer with some crispy onions that only made it better. The beans and slaw were good. The corn bread was dang good. You could tell it's fresh made with quality corn. Ugh so much happiness in a plate. Good prices, quick service, and BBQ sauce at every table!

Welp- i visited in a month without an "r" and hence oysters are not the most ideal...apparently. And my kids are the meat and potatoes type crew. Coming from Texas i was alittle skeptical, but that quickly faded with the hometown hospitality of the smoke on the water staff. The big friendly guy took our order- amused my kiddos- and we were ordering lots of bbq on a pier. Ordered- BBQ beef sandwich- delicious sauce with a little bite Meat was requested for the leaner cuts and was fulfilled. No blobs of fat, and just lean tender meat. Poutine with pulled pork/bbq beef /bacon - fries were crispy, hot , and potatoe filled - meat was on point - cheese curds were curding/ melting and stringy Both id say were 5/5! So moral of this review is that you dont need to question why you are ordering bbq on a pier, near so much water, on an island only accessible by a ferry. This place reps well, and has mucho bbq aura. The seating is alittle limited, just patio high stools and counter tops. You view the marina and could see some whales or seals pop up

We ordered the brisket platters, and while the portion sizes were generous, the brisket was on the fattier side and could've used a bit more seasoning overall. The mac and cheese had great flavor and that classic comfort-food vibe, though it was a little dense. The corn flan was just okay...nice idea, but it didn't totally come together for me. We also got the chicken wings, and I have to say, we were impressed! They were actual full wing pieces, not tiny or over-fried, which was a nice surprise. There's limited seating, so it's definitely more of a grab-and-go or casual quick-bite spot. All in all, solid BBQ with potential, but I'd love to see a bit more seasoning and balance in the dishes.

With a little time on our hands we drive into Anacortes since we've never really been there, only passing through to catch the ferry. Realizing it's the 4th, we happen to catch the tail end of the Anacortes 4th of July Parade. At this point it's around if not after lunch time. Well with crowds and traffic we go on a walk-about in search of food and not more than a klick from our position we find this nice little lot by the marina with some food trailers. Choices, choices, choices, those being Chinese food, BBQ and Gourmet Hot Dogs. First choice was the dogs, but the line was a little long for us. So we went with BBQ...again glad we did. It was a bit of wait, since it had just opened not to long ago, some folks already waiting and one person doing food prep, cooking, taking orders and running the till, he mentioned waiting for someone else so help was on the way, but he did great, and the wait wasn't that bad. So for lunch we had one beef brisket sammy, two pulled pork sammys, one topped with coleslaw and with other with mac-n-cheese and beans on the side. First the sides, both probably one of the best I've had, no seriously. I'm not a real big mac-n-cheese guy, but this one was damn tasty. I love that I could tasted the cheese and it was not weak in flavor. I thought it was as good as if not better than that one Pike Place Mac-n-Cheese place. Then there was the beans, OMG, those baked beans were no joke...awesome! I so wished I'd gotten more of that. Then the sammys: The brisket was so tender, so juicy with some excellent flavor. Not smothered in BBQ sauce, it was just the perfect amount and tasted so good! The pulled pork sammys were excellent, lotsa pork with the perfect amount of sauce so they complimented each other flavor-wise so it's not all BBQ sauce you taste. Bottom line, some DAMN GOOD BBQ! Some restaurant's idea of BBQ is to take meat and cover/drown it in sauce-ugh. i.e. Applebee's bottomless riblets (only thing going for it is that it is bottomless-but it's nothing more than BBQ sauce with meat texture....I digress). Anyhow, the next time we are passing through, this definitely will be a stop. Surprised not to find it on YELP so I had to add it myself. It was that good! Now hopefully you can support a local small business and get some excellent BBQ too!

We ordered the Grants Platter for Two and shared it between three hungry adults and we still had a lot of leftovers (which were super tasty later)! My favorites from this platter were the brisket (so tender and just the right amount of smokiness) and the chicken wings with dry rub (fried to crispy perfection). The ribs and pulled pork were also really good, but since I prefer my barbecue without sauce, these didn't appeal to me as much as the brisket. I also liked the fresh and tasty mixed greens salad that we got as one of our sides--very balanced and delicious. The staff are super friendly here.
