For this GLEAMER review, I visited the somewhat unassuming Raider Burrito, and let me just say I…read morewas very pleasantly surprised. I got a steak fajita plate which had a pretty generous serving of the main entreé, and the meat was wonderfully seasoned. I also had a chicken enchilada from my friend and it was absolutely stuffed with protein. The chips and salsa (which were free) were really good. The chips were thick, and gave the impression they were made with corn tortillas as a base, and the provided salsa was decently spicy. Service was decently impressive for the fact only two total people were working there at the time. Very polite server who was very on top of customers and cleanliness. Decoration was kind of plain and the lights were a bit dim, but that's not a real issue in any substantial way. Places like Raider Burrito are a genuine treat to stumble upon in Lubbock. It's a great small business that provides Authentic texmex at a great value with some fantastic service. I can't wait to go back there sometime soon. 14/15

I was excited to hear there was a Torchy's nearby because that's one of our favorite places in Houston. However, I was disappointed to see how bad this location was. La Cabana may be the best traditional Tex-Mex restaurant in Lubbock, and there's plenty of…read morecompetition. The core of Tex-Mex is tacos and enchiladas and maybe chiles rellenos. I haven't tried the CRs, but their basic crispy beef tacos are perfect, their enchiladas are also very good, and their charro beans are terrific. In short, if you're in Lubbock and looking for straight-down-the-pipe, authentic, old-school Tex-Mex, you can't do any better than La Cabana.

Sometimes you just want classic Tex-Mex done right--and Abuelo's delivers exactly that kind of…read morecomforting, crowd-pleasing experience. We started with the house chips and salsa trio, which is always a win here. The chips were warm and crisp, and the variety of salsas--from bright and fresh to deeper and more roasted--made it easy to keep reaching for "just one more." A solid way to kick things off. For my main, I went the veggie route, and honestly, this was the standout of the meal. The sizzling vegetable fajitas arrived steaming hot and loaded with broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, and squash--perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and served on a cast-iron skillet that kept everything hot down to the last bite. Colorful, hearty, and surprisingly satisfying, even without meat. The rest of the table went more traditional with enchiladas, rice, beans, guacamole, and queso, and everything looked generous and comforting in that familiar, crave-worthy Tex-Mex way. Portions are filling, flavors are approachable, and it's easy to find something for everyone at the table. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a lively bar area and cozy booths that make it a great spot for a casual dinner, family outing, or low-key night out. Service was friendly and efficient, and everything came out exactly as expected. Abuelo's may be a familiar name, but when you're in the mood for reliable Tex-Mex, solid vegetarian options, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe, it absolutely hits the mark.
