This was my first stop when I landed in Seattle today, highly recommended by my friend that I am visiting here. I tried the famous chicken crunchy burrito, tater tots, and the seasonal caesar salad soft taco. The latter was my favorite, the burrito (more like a taquito) sort of reminded me of a Costco chicken bake in terms of flavor profile, but it was lovely, as were the tots. What was incredibly impressive to me is the fact that everything is locally sourced, which I think is just so unheard of for a fast food joint! I felt like you could really tell from the quality of the food too, because I usually struggle with eating fried meals, but I didn't feel overly heavy or anything! I've known of this place for a while because I always see it during my daily runs. I stepped inside for the first time when my then-coworker told me about free taco days last year. I became a fan since then and I decided to go get a fish taco that I've been curious about today. Going in I wasn't sure what the difference between fish Baja vs. fish soft taco was, but the staff kindly explained to me that fish Baja is tacos style while fish soft taco is more like a burrito with more fish and veggies inside. It was good that the staff clarified that baja tacos don't come with fish. I assumed any taco named Baja would have fish in it, but that was not the case here. Ultimately, I was fairly hungry so I went with the fish soft taco. The soft taco went well with the hot sauce that came with the food and I really enjoyed it. I rarely write reviews for a fast-food chain but I really like this Taco Time so I need to give them a shout-out. My Hubs and I have been getting takeout from the Shilshole Taco Time every week for the last couple of months and they are now our go-to place for a fast, tasty and affordable meal. We love the fish soft taco. It's not a taco, it's a burrito. Order it and you'll see what I mean. We also like the crisp chicken taco and crisp beef taco. I use the app to order and like how I can remove some ingredients and add others. I have food intolerances so it's wonderful to be able to personalize my order each time. Being from California I went in thinking this is going to be a joke but I gotta admit if you accept it white person Mexican food it's actually really tasty. 3.25 for a chicken crispy taco that was literally stuffed with tasty chicken. Then the crispy "burritos" (flautas) are really good too chicken was my favorite but the beef was really good too. I worked at Taco Time for a year and this would have never happened; it's not that hard to read a screen. the employees were also arguing while I was waiting for my food in the drive-thru. I was super hungry and stumbled upon this place, figured it would be good for a quick bite. It wasn't too busy on the weekend and we ordered for the crispy taco with pinto beans, Baja taco with pinto beans and mexi fries. The crispy taco was too thin and was filled with ample pinto beans, a little bit of lettuce and even less cheese. I honestly just got the taste of pinto beans and nothing else. The Baja taco was similar in taste but atleast had better lettuce to beans ratio. Honestly, it was pretty decent and they took a while to get our order. The mexi fries are like tater tots and definitely scrumptious, crispy on the outside and melt in the mouth inside. These fries are better than what I have had at most places. Anytime is a Taco Time and it shows! When hanging out at Hiram M. Chittenden (aka Ballard) Locks today I stopped by for a snack. Why cause nobody makes a crispy beef burrito like taco time does... The flakiness of the deep fried crust and meat grease all blend together to make on of the finest fast food delicacies on the planet! Even the crispy bean burrito is awesome and it shows! Taco Times menu is a culinary delight for all foodies. A visit without mexi fries is a sin so I get my fix. Some of the other highlights are the Crispy Bean burrito ( very creamy in taste ) , Soft Taco and a plain regular Taco, which are just many of the wonderful tasty treats you can order. And if you just wanna nibble, well they serve half size orders for your cravings... If you grew up in the NW then you know what I'm talking about... We have gone here about 2x per month for 10+ years. Always a good default when you need something healthy, quick and cheap. We ordered the kids beef burrito for my son, same order as he has had every time for years. So tiny, I thought it was a mistake so I went back to the drive through to and noted it was exceptionally small. The server reiterated that it was the standard size. I asked my son if it was a toddler burrito and he said, "no, more of an infant burrito". Goodbye Taco time. Customer service is horrible. Make sure you check your food before leaving. They don't include eating utensils, napkins, straws and will not allow you to use the restrooms or eat in the facility. Simply put, this is the worst "fast" food joint in Ballard. Do not go here if you're in a rush as their drive-thru takes 10-15min on average from the time you order to receiving your food. The quality of food is widely inconsistent for the same items, with ingredients that are too often haphazardly thrown together. I've frequented this Taco Time and it frankly leaves you wondering why you just spent $11.99, patiently waited 15 minutes with your car in park, and interacted with the majority of inhospitable employees who despise their job as much as the food. read more

God I love Taco Time. It's the only fast food restaurant I actually enjoy. Their ranch and mexi fries (tater tots) are clutch. I'm addicted to their hard shell tacos. Only complaint is that they've messed up my order a number of times. It's happened enough that I've started checking my order before I drive away. Their fountain soda is also spotty -- sometimes it tastes watered down or isn't super bubbly... I think they aren't great about checking the carbonation. Overall, QA could be better. read more

The service was faster than a Randy Johnson heater. The Baja Fish taco is the best seafood you can find in Seattle and the Mexi-Fries were CRISPY BOYS. I keep getting burritos that are loosely put together. Like I'll take a bite out of it and it'll land into my lap. The pinto burrito crisp version is my favorite but the price has gone up a considerable portion from what it was in 1997 but whatever The Taco Time in Ballard has been a regular place to come too for years but now I can't stand the lighting and atmosphere in this new renovation they did to it, the lighting gives you a headache at night reminds me of going to the dentist and having a white light over you. Might as well take my Taco Time to the dentist and eat it in the chair. Can the lights please be dimmed or at least changed to softer bulbs? If not whatever I will just go outside or wear sunglasses inside. Way over priced. The quality of the chicken has gone down hill. It appears they are using ground chicken and the sauce base is thicker now. Also I don't know if they are over shooting their food cost or what. But sometimes a burrito is fair size, other times it's about as round as a hotdog. Taco Time is now on my remember when list now. I've always liked Taco Time, and I mostly do drive-thru but I thought I'd comment on an incident that occurred while a friend and I dined-in at this branch with our children. A woman approached us and scolded us for bringing our kids, one who is my 8-month-old. They were indeed doing what children do when they're hungry, and we were waiting for our food, and calming them down as best we could, but how can anyone think it's ok to yell at table of children and moms and tell them they don't belong there?? An employee came up to us after they left and told us that we were had every right to be there, which was very kind. I would have appreciated some more intervention by the staff while she was scolding us, but I'm glad someone who worked there came up and agreed that wasn't ok. It was very startling. I am sad. New daytime manager doesn't seem to get Ballard! Ballard cares about people and the environment more than the impersonal lunch rush hurry. As soon as I showed up, I saw him hurriedly remove the hot sauce pump without making contact with anyone and replaced it with a tub of half full hot sauce containers. What a waste of their expensive compostable packaging!! I ate in and normally would use 2 containers for hot sauce. I had to take double that (not including the lids) just to use on my food. People that like hot sauce will now take extra containers because they are half full. I used to come inside just so I wouldn't waste packaging at drive thru, now what's the point! This new manager seems like a McDonalds manager, not Taco Time. I ONLY go for fast food at Taco Time because they are different. They supposedly care about the environment and keeping things local. The new manager doesn't seem to understand or live by this philosophy. What a shame. I hope this is not the future of Taco Time. I loved them for what sets them apart. Then the regular employees that I see pretty regularly, seemed super rushed and stressed out when it was after the lunch rush. Super awkward!! I hope he doesn't turn this into a wasteful, impersonal Taco Time! I also seen him telling a girl employee that was previously rushing around and cooking, that "we need to fix this now!" The food here is good, taco time consistently has pretty good food and you know what to expect. However the service is amazing and warrants a review on its own. Whoever was working 1/20 before closing was SO nice and friendly. Literally changed the rest of my evening by brightening it up and had stellar service! Never thought I would leave a review of a fast food place but this taco time won big with their staff. I finally had the Taco Time experience. I've seen them around, but since I love actual tacqueria food, I never go out of my way to eat at corporate mexican restaurants. However, I knew Taco Time was a regional chain and not national...so at least they fall under the 'local' category of where I choose to spend my hard-earned buckaroos. The location of this place is what made me decide to take the Taco Time leap...it's right next to the Ballard Locks park where I had been hanging out on a beautiful summer day in Seattle. It really was a good experience and I am actually a fan of the Taco Times now. It was definitely more expensive than Taco Bell and taco trucks, but you can taste that the ingredients are DEFINITELY fresher and better than Taco Bell. That made up for the extra cost by far...it really makes a difference when it comes to lettuce and tomatoes. I had a burrito here, but I've been to a different Taco Time since then, ordered tacos and was similarly impressed with how fressssssh the ingredients tasted considering it is a chain Mexican restaurant staffed by white high school kids. The icing on the Taco Time cake for me here at this Shilshole location was that the kid who took my order came out to ask me how I liked everything, since I had told him at the register that it was my first taco time experience. That's pretty awesome...it was like a family restaurant or something! I hit up this Taco Time for the first time with a friend last night. I always sort of forget this location is there because it blends into the trees...and the fact that Market St sort of splits into two roads at this particular point. It was decent...the interior was smaller than I pictured, but it had plenty of tables. Employees were relatively friendly and the mexi-nuggets were cooked to perfection. They were pretty quick in getting our to-go orders out to us. On the negative side, this location is really awkward and can make parking difficult. Also, the drive-thru is REALLY poorly placed and during the busy lunch time the cars waiting in line pour over onto Market Street, making it a pain to get through. This is very annoying... read more

I would not recommend going to this Taco Time, although it is kind of hard with it being so close to the locks and golden gardens. Make sure when you order that you tell them to make it good and fresh! Otherwise, who knows what you'll end up with! Also, the soft taco and natural soft taco are completely over-priced! All you get is one little scoop of meat and two hand fulls of lettuce. I ordered a natural soft taco, supposed to be with meat and beans, and they left out the beans!! 1/2 of the difference between a soft taco and a natural soft taco, and they effed it up! They literally gave me a Lettuce and Sour Cream soft taco, with a pinch of beef added as a little topping. Their soft bean burrito wasn't that good either, they skimp on the burrito sauce, so make sure you ask for a good amount and make sure they don't charge you extra for it! read more
