After stumbling upon Taco Star a few months ago, I waited some time to do this review because I wanted to work my way through their huge menu a bit before deciding how many stars to give them. Well, after countless meals, I can safely give them the review they deserve. The highlights: -they have a drive thru - the Thornton locale is an old Good times -they are open 24hrs. -their portions are HUGE -while I have affection for many a dive bar and hole in the wall Mexican food outlet, this place is spotlessly clean. The tacos are outstanding. Though around $2.50 each, they are enormous. The carne asada and lengua are my favorites. Yes, that's tongue. No, really it is absolutely delicious. It tastes much like brisket, IMO. The burritos are excellent as well. The carnitas is Shawn's favorite and I really enjoy their breakfast burritos and the Colorado, both of which use fries for potatoes. I'm normally not a fan of fries in my burrito, but taco Star does it right unlike other places. Other items I have tried: enchiladas (good and I normally don't care for them in general), tortas (just once and I wasn't impressed, but my standards are high a la Teleras Deli, Las Tortugas, etc.) and tostadas (good guac). They have an option for smothering burritos which is not green chili as most of us in the area think of. It's a tangy, bright green sauce of some kind - not sure if it's more of a New Mexico style chili (the local chain started in Pueblo, so that makes sense) or something else entirely, but it is good. read more

This is not a good place for Mexican food. Overall a dirty restaurant, Sub par food and not a pleasant experience.

The best breakfast burritos in Thornton. The tortillas are super fresh, and cooked to perfection. The burritos are enormous. The tomatillo is the best you can get at any Mexican fast food joint. I could literally drink that stuff. Get the tocino con huevos y papas. The tortas were also surprisingly good for a "fast food" joint. I always get the jamon con queso with pickled jalapenos on the side... Mmmmm. Not sure why people still go to Santiagos for their breakfast burritos. read more

BEST PLACE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD. I love their food and the prices are just right. The breakfast burrito with steak, chorizo and eggs is like 2 meals in 1 burrito (Dont change that guys, love it!) Ive come here a few times. About the only place open all night. There always extremely slow. Guess thats good considering its all fresh I think. The food isnt horrible but extremely greasey. This last time I came order a breakfast burrito. Even though the menu says extra meat 1$ The cashier tells me its ab extra 3$ right away. So I ordered my food by phone and they told me it would be 10 minutes. This was at 8:55 PM. I come by 9:15 PM and then they told me to wait for my order. Two parties then ordered on the front end and they ordered carne asada fries. One party ordered 1 and the other 3 ordered 3 of them. I ordered 1 carne asada fries and 1 California burrito. Both of them got their orders before me. I waited longer then those 2 parties. I don't know but that's messed up. read more

This meat in the beef tacos was sinewy and weirdly discoloured. The top half of the meat in the taco was dark and dryer looking like it was old. The chicken taco had a very strange smell. We threw everything in the trash and went back out for takeout from a different place. Truly a disappointment. read more

In a pinch... This place is a great late night/ post party stop. Dee-lish. Service is great but a bit slow (can you blame them.... They lack space!) they are open 24 hours so if you're starving at 3am... this is the place to go! Salsas not the spiciest... but the meats are flavorful and the Horchata is spot on! No seating inside so it's def a good drive by option for eating on the run... It's cheap/fresh/ relatively fast and servings are pretty decent. I always grab a burrito ... I used to work around the area few years back. I came back last nite looking for what I remembered about Taco Star. Huge tacos, delicious meats and reduced prices. To my surprise they are keeping their promise and consistency in all this factors plus they are open 24 hours. Isn't that amazing? I wish they have locations throughout the Denver area so I don't need t drive 25 mins for this crave. My tacos were delicious, served on a double corn tortilla since the amount of meat is overflowing. You get plenty of salsas to complete your experience and the horchata water is unique. This is not the most appealing building I've ever seen so that's why I always pass on going to Taco Star. But when you gotta have a taco you gotta have a taco and yelp came to the rescue. It's was very flavorful actually! I opted for folded chicken breast taco and a Carne Asada taco. Both hit the spot! Great flavor for 2 bucks a taco! I tried a couple high rated so-called Mexican joints and it wasn't authentic. I lived in San Diego for awhile and know good Mexican food. I seen this place and saw a long line at the drive-thru so I figured it has to be good. I avoided this place like the plague for the longest time but my bf kept pushing to try it saying it was prob "the place" we've been looking for. I gave in tonight and had to give him the satisfaction of "I told you so". I had carne asada tacos... I ordered 3 thinking they'd be small but they hooked it up. This food is fantastic!! I had never eaten here before and I do not regret eating here one bit! I ordered the fish burrito and added potatoes to it and man it was the best burrito I have had in a long time! Their tortillas are fresh and their green salsa is wonderful! I will definitely be eating here again! Just pre-warning its not a sit down restaurant but it does how tables you can sit at outside and they have a drive-thru. The food at taco star is not good Mexican food even by drive thru standards ... If you're looking for drive thru Mexican I suggest Santiagos express... Only thing appealing about Taco star is that it's open 24 hrs so after a night of drinking ( alot ) this place would maybe hit the spot... The carne asada was very grisly and salty... The tomatoes were not fresh ... I understand that drive thru food is usually not the best... But for the price I expect more... Overall I would grade taco star as a D+ read more
