If you're from NYC, Taco Recipes is exactly what you'd expect. Growing up, almost every neighborhood had one. This is the neighborhood Tex-Mex spot run by Chinese people. They were all individually owned and yet all had the same exact menu. I used to get the Chicken Fajitas tortillas after school, right before my part time job. I felt nostalgic today and decided to order the same. Unfortunately, Taco Recipes really fell short. The chicken was super dry and the fajitas vegetables was just onions. Where's the peppers?? All the other reviewers that gave a 5 star clearly has not had real mexican food. It is a solid 3 or 3.5 at most. This place tastes like burrito house in TriBeca. The food wasn't bad, it just didn't hit home. Also I kept questioning the authenticity of the place as it sells Mexican food but it is run by Chinese people, even the cook was Chinese. The steak combination platter could do with a bit more steak but at 7$, they have to make a profit as well. The green sauce they gave me had no taste nor did the salsa. Super bland is super boring. The salsa or whatever that red sauce they gave me contained zero flavor, they need to kick it up a notch. The dressing on the salad was sweet. Who has sweet salads with steak, beans and rice? Not me. Their vegetables were fresh though, so definitely keep that going. The beans were not overcooked nor were they undercooked so that pleased me. I would possibly return as they have great prices. One of my favorite Tex mex places. Yes, is not legit Tex mex, but closest thing possible in this neighborhood. Flavors are distinct, not greasy and oily like most places. Price for the combination platters are incredibly worth it --- $7 for a steak over rice. Comes with 2 tortillas, lettuce tomatoes steak rice beans and jalapeños. I came upon this spot one day hung over and hungry. It was the only spot on the block that wasn't packed with Saturday early afternoon brunchers. I order a shrimp burrito bowl and all I have to say is WOW! The flavor blew me away. I do not understand how this place doesn't have a line out the door. The flavor was Poppin, the portion was massive and the price was cheap! I now come here once to twice a week and I don't even live or work in the area. Second order from this place (via GrubHub). Went this time with the Chimichanga with steak, & the chicken burrito. Pretty decently good, for the most part. The guac that came with the chimichanga was okay. A little better still once you add in one of the red sauces for a little more of a kick. . The chimichanga ... good. Steak inside is nice & tender. Came here for lunch today. Ordered the Chicken tostada salad bowl... It was very good. Enjoyed the sweet lime/cilantro dressing. It was unique in flavor. Haven't had anything like it ever, complimented the salad very well. I'm from LA, so I've had authentic Mexican food plenty of time. I wouldn't consider Taco Recipes a super authentic place but the food here is damn tasty. Will be returning to try other items on the menu. :) read more

Well. That was weird. It's a Chinese restaurant but also has a full Mexican menu. Not just the taco board. Tho the tacos are like a fetija//burrito bowl infusion. Just went there for the first time tonight and absolutely loved everything about this place. Everyone there was so nice, even though they seemed really busy. Although the resturant looks very Asian considering it serving Mexican food, the food taste pretty good! Their tacos are not the best, the truth is, the shack next door that serves tacos has better tacos but I love coming here. Their combination platter is good though. And their buffalo wings! Absolutely delicious! Love the sauce and how it is made! And the people working their, I like them! They're good people. The atmosphere is warm and very home style. ONE STAR Because YELP doesn't allow zero! I ordered from this restaurant through Seamless this evening. Upon opening my vegetable Quesadilla I discovered what appeared to be lettuce, carrots, and broccoli. The quesadilla was soaking wet. (guess that's what happens when you unknowingly order Mexican food from a Chinese restaurant- really lettuce in a Quesadilla?) Against my better judgment I took a bite to find out that it tasted worse than it looked and in fact possibly made with expired cheese. I called the store and explained that I was pregnant and that I did not feel comfortable eating the food that they prepared. The woman on the other line I tried to assure me that that's the way their food looks like! She went on to tell me that the store has a no refund policy. What a terrible thing to say to a customer. I would like to start off by saying that this place deserves half a star. The size of the portions on the menu look big and to my surprise the quesadilla was the size of a baby's hand. What a waste of my money. Why are they charging $3.59 for a miniature quesadilla with no cheese. Clearly the quesadilla is worth 99 cents because of its size. I ordered delivery during lunch time, and it said it might take 45-1hr. It came within 30 minutes or so. I got the tex-mex burrito bowl. I was excited to dig in. The burrito bowl came wrapped in aluminum, which freaked me out! There was no plate just the burrito bowl itself (made out of tortilla) so I was worried the aluminum will tear. I was at work, so that would be so inconvenient. The whole time I was eating it, I was being super careful which kind of annoyed me. The bowl itself was fried and crispy. The meat sauce that came with it was also wrapped in aluminum which confused me because there was a lid on it. The meat sauce was still warm. The bowl was cold but that's fine, I don't want soggy vege. It came with sour cream, dressing, and hot sauce. Lemme tell you, the combo is so bomb. The dressing was sooo delish. It was tangy. I finished it so quick. I will definitely order from here again, hoping the quality will be the same. The price on it was okay, not really worth $13. read more

Was going to give this place a try, until the delivery guy from this restaurant rode his bike onto the sidewalk and of course had a near-miss, and then make it out to be like my fault. I know he works for there or deliver for them because I saw him going in. Ordered via delivery. I would never get nachos from here again. For 10.99, I was expecting them to at least be delivered in one of those round containers. They were in a small rectangle container; the same container of a chinese food combo dinner. Almost all of the chips were dry and had no cheese. The toppings were not spread throughout and were just plopped on top, each topping next to the other. The side of sour cream was in a ONE ounce container and filled up halfway.
