We had ordered our food to go, and sat down to wait. About ten minutes later a bag was given to the cashier but she did not call us over to pick it up. Fifteen minutes later I'm looking at this bag thinking please don't let that be our food just sitting there. Another few minutes go by, and guess what IT IS OUR FOOD. My friend and I came here for a quick dinner before waiting in a line for a concert at Emo's right next door. The host/cashier seemed to be the only one who spoke English at this place, but we felt that made it seem more authentic. The food was good and not too costly. We came back here at the end of our stay in Austin for breakfast before we left. It was on a Sunday morning and it was packed, but we got a seat and we really enjoyed the breakfast tacos we got. It's a cute place and the people working there are really nice, even if they don't all speak English. It's nice for a sit down meal or grab n go. This review is long overdue. My roommate and I simply adore Taco More, we used to frequent it quite a bit in college. The food is authentic with a classic richness, (just like I like my Mexican food), making the dishes perfect for two girls to split (and cheaper that way too!). However with today being a special occasion (my roommates birthday; yes, she chose to spend her evening at Taco More) we decided to go all out. Nachos Al Pastor; Check! Shredded Chicken Burrito; Check! Bistek Quesadilla Doradas en Maiz; Check! Not to mention we each ordered a taco, she went with the classic and ever so good barbaccoa, and I chose the slightly more exotic goat. The tacos came out first. The goat was seasoned to perfection, and topped with just the right amount of onion and avocado. I could tell by the not so subtle moans from across the table that the barbaccoa was simply rocking my roomate's world. Next came the Nachos al Pastor. The pastor at Taco More is probably one of my favorites. The pork is seasoned in something that makes it look almost fuchsia, and the flavor comes alive in your mouth with each bite. The shredded chicken burrito is another of our go to orders. The chicken in this burrito is so tender and flavorful. Typically I avoid any kind of chicken at Mexican restaurants. I always find the meat to be poorly executed (unless its fajitas), whether it's too dry, or simply mostly dark meat (I'm a lighter to whiter meat kind of gal), but for Taco More I always make an exception. Finally, we finished with the Bistek Quesadilla Doradas en Maiz, a beautiful fried monstrosity. It was covered in shredded lettuce, cojita and sour cream. Each crispy crunchy bite brought me closer to the button on my pants exploding and true euphoria. Some tips for Taco More: 1) They have an AMAZING salsa bar. Be sure to stop by and grab a few samples to try on your meal or with the complimentary chips 2) They don't have queso, a down side in my opinion. It is a side item that comes with the nachos and I can only assume several other dishes as well. But not as an appetizer. This may just be the white girl in me coming out but, color me disappointed 3) We have dined at this fine establishment many times. There have been several times we had a waitress who didn't speak any English. Don't let that scare you off though! They almost always have had a very nice English speaking waitress there to help if needed. 4) Order the Horchata, it will change your life. The total cost for 3 dishes, 3 tacos and a bottomless Hotchata was a whopping $38.82 (including tip). read more

Great bang for your buck if you like authentic Mexican tacos. I'm not a pork eater and I find the meat in many Mexican restaurants rather dubious as in hormone fed. Well of course that is true throughout the country and not just in a Mexican restaurant. On several occasions I tried various tacos. For the price and quality of food, I was very impressed. I think it is pretty authentic in the sense that there were hardly any bollio patrons and most of the waitresses only spoke in spanish. They bring out a tray with all of the desserts in case you want to buy some. Also there is no line item for tips on the receipt - I think they expect tips in the way of cash. Easily the best authentic tacos in Austin. I used to go to the northern location as often as I could, but then they opened one just down the road from me and I refuse to eat tacos any other place. The goat tacos are some of the best goat you can find in Austin. And also one of the best tacos around. The chicken tacos are usually good, sometimes a bit dry, but often very moist. I could go on to list all the tacos I have tried, but that would be a long list. Suffice to say if you want your basic no frills taco done right you go here. read more

I live really close to this place, but never had a desire to come here, that is until one day the place we were aiming for was closed. "Eh? Why not?" We decided to give it a go, and we were pleasantly surprised. There was a decked out salsa bar, and I love salsa bars! (My food to salsa ratio is alarming at best. Let's just say I like to eat volcanoes.) The food was very cheap, and the portions were a little bigger than average. We mostly stuck to breakfast tacos, but there's no knocking that. alright, i'm gonna preface with saying i'm a sauce/condiment freak. thus having a bar composed of all those things is automatically going to give u points in my book. give me infinite ways to sauce/dress your food and we'll be friends for life ... so on top of the 5 or 6 salsas, they have radishes, cucumbers, roasted peppers and various onion mixtures to garnish your food. ok, so now that i've gushed about my fave part of Taco More onto the food. i've been trying to find a place that has a great red pozole every day of the week, not just weekends, and this place is my jam. the medium is enough for one person and its $5. it's practically free. the broth is the right amount of robustness and spiciness, and it's never too oily. you get a very sufficient amount pork pieces - skin, bones, and gristle are left in tact , so if you're not used to eating more 'humble' pieces of meat from ethnic foods, this is a heads up. you can either get a few corn tortillas served with it or a plate with tostadas, lettuce and avocado. i haven't had their menudo but i see a ton of people ordering it when i'm here. i'm just a wuss when it comes to the barnyard after taste that most menudos have from those wonderful, wonderful guts. the lengua, al pastor, and carnitas tacos/tortas are your standard are great. the ceviche is also fantastic. anyway, the place is huge and clean and on weekends it can get packed. whenever, i'm at an asian place and a ton of my asian bretheren are there, 98% of the time you know it's the real deal/delicious. looking at the demographic that frequents Taco More you could make the same assumption. i used to go to one place for tacos, and another for pozole, and another for breakfast tacos etc, etc - now Taco More is my all inclusive Mexican joint of choice! read more

A lot of restaurants like to abuse the description "authentic" but these folks are truly the real deal and they do offer a lot "More" than just tacos. The menu ranges from tacos to soups, sea foods and special plates, although I'd say the soups and tacos stand out the most. For your tacos, you have traditional options like goat, beef head, tongue, and chicharron. Nothing awesome, just what you'd expect if Jose served them to you hot and piping from his street cart. The real draw is the sauce bar with a rainbow of colors and hotness (including the original Dona green sauce Taco Deli fanatics love) They can transform some of the mediocre dishes here into very tasty ones... Sadly, there were a few I didn't care about... the fish filet (Fillete de pescado) appears to come from frozen breaded factory filets and lack taste (solution: douse with sauce). Also didn't care for the horchata and the breakfast tacos whose eggs were overcooked... I like mine creamy but that may not be possible at any restaurant due to the health police... again, douse with sauce. However, the soups are crazy good and cheap. I liked both the goat and the chicken consommé and will try the menudo next time. At $2.50 for a small that's really a medium, this is the bomb diggity. As for the restaurant vibe, the layout/flow is similar to others in the fast-sit-eat-and-run trend where you are seated with a number and they bring your order out to you. We got here after a pretty late flight to Austin and noticed Taco More was opened late and had pretty good reviews on Yelp. After walking in, we weren't quite sure what to do, so the young lady asked if we were eating in or to-go, we seated ourselves. Someone else brought chips and salsa, the salsa was delicious and quite spicy, the heat builds and will open up the sinuses lol. My husband had noticed the salsa bar on the way in and decided to check it out..he came back with 2 more green salsas that were very delicious and just as spicy! There were also some sort of marinated onions he enjoyed as well after our order came. After reading many reviews about the goat soup, I have to admit I was not quite brave enough to try it just yet but I did have the Consume de Pollo and Fajita Torta. The food came out very fast, hot and delicious! It wasnt greasy nor dry, no American cheese whatso ever! The consume had some garbanzo beans which I'm not a fan of usually but these were very good and I ate them right up! My husband had the Flautas plate and said it was good...it was devoured Most of the young ladies do speak Spanish and I know very little so when I spoke some, one of the girls rambled off and there I was, deer in headlights. She realized that I didn't understand and apologized and spoke in English, she was very sweet. The prices seemed very good for good portions for food that is fast, fresh and hot!
