Coming here after moving because I need soup. I love hot pot it's so good especially now that we're in the fall season. I came here with a picky eater and he enjoyed himself. He thought it was really good for his first time. I got tonkatsu with brown rice, fresh kale noodles, and Colorado lamb. The broth was fantastic, I wish I chose white rice instead. I wasn't feeling the brown rice texture. The fresh kale noodles were great, I'd get those again! The Colorado lamb was perfect for my soup. I love all the veggies you get especially the mushrooms! Bethany is really sweet and very helpful. She let my friend taste the broths before choosing. It's a bar seating style with individual hot pots. They have a lot of sauces. My favorite is the miso and sesame oil and seasoning. I'd definitely come back, it was so tasty!

I cannot explain how much I love Tabu Shabu. So lovely, staff is always really nice! Food is always legit, I love the customizations! Vibes are so fun, cool artwork.

First time experience there, visiting from Los Angeles. So warm and welcoming. Clean and spacious. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. Even to a first timer like me...walked me thru how to do my broth. Bethany was my server and she was great! Went with my friend who is a regular and she also showed me how to prepare my dish. I had the lamb which was good. I like lamb so it was not an odd flavor note to me. It was filling and tasty. I will definitely be back next time I am in Carlsbad.

Decent price, yummy Japanese hot pot and great service! We wanted some comfort food and a dinner that had some delicious meat and soup. We found Tabu Shabu on yelp and gave it a try. Overall it was delicious and had decent portions. I believe it was the store manager that served us and she was great! Super friendly and made us feel at home. All the safe were very friendly and it made our email enjoyable. The restaurant has a simple bar set up where each person has their own hot pot. Overall an enjoyable dinner and worth the price we paid.

Absolutely love this place, service is great as usual and food is wonderful. Meat quality is superb and vegetables are fresh. I always get the miso soup base and Kurubrata pork and never disappoints. Once you're finished the sever helps you finalize your dish with the noodle of hour choice. They have great selection of beers and you can rack up rewards points on each visit and save it for next time use. It can be super busy during rain days so be aware.

Tabu Shabu is my favorite place for hot pot! They have some of the best quality meat from Snake River Farms. The workers here are on top of everything and always friendly. I love how the seating is like a wrap around bar. They have Happy Hour from 5-6pm on weekdays for 20% off! Make sure you sign up for their rewards program too. I always make sure to order the Large Combo option with the Ribeye and Short Rib cuts. I love the tonkotsu broth and kale ramen noodles. The veggies are always fresh and delicious. I frequently visit Tabu Shabu and am always satisfied with the quality and consistency. I will be back soon!

The corroded vent and overhead fixtures

I can't consciously give this more than 3 stars. Let's start this off by stating that this "Shabu" thing is not for me . . . or my wife. Too much work. Why would I again pay so much for a lunch meal for two that I essentially do all of the work (~$91, no cocktails, tip included)? Most everything on the menu was an upcharge. I guess traditionally, Japanese food is careful to artfully plate for presentation. Well done Tabu. However, my customer experience guided me to accept only mediocrity in its most blatant form on all other touch-points. The quality of the food was decent, but seemed to rely solely on fresh, yet somewhat lacking the 'good'. The broths were sloppily mixed directly in front of us, poured haphazardly into the Shabu pot and placed on an induction burner at each bar station. That just began the process of placing everything and then more on the already crowded place setting. I had to get creative with placement, because having something in the wrong spot could mean the difference between eating or wearing the item. Too much crowding of the utensils, tongs, ladle, water glass, ice tea, plate of protein, plate of vegetables etc. etc. etc. The front seats just inside the door seem to be where all of the "newbies" sit since it's most convenient after the owner/manager would say "sit wherever ". I began to think I was sitting in the wrong restaurant. Kinda disgusting seeing the ventilation system overhead has allowed the steaming pots of broth to begin corroding the fixtures. I kept feeling as if I was doing something wrong or was otherwise incorrectly doing the "Shabu" thing. The way the roundabout construction of the winding 'bar' is set up, I kept catching momentary eye contact with multiple people that were observing me flail the mess into my mouth . . . or the counter area and induction cooktop. I didn't find any way of not making a mess. Maybe this is the latest craze for healthy dining, but I think I can find a more suitable way of spending my lunch money. Dicks

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner and we loved it! The restaurant is really clean and has a nice vibe. It's kinda cool how the eating arrangement is around the bar and the team preps food in the center. Service was very friendly and the quality of the food was fresh. We both got the miso broth and selected our proteins and carbs. There was an assortment of veggies that came with our orders. If you don't finish your food, they box it up for you so you can have leftovers. We had enough for leftovers the next day. We loved this place and will be back!

My wife and I have been searching North County for years for same, to no avail - so we readily accepted. We arrived a few minutes before 1pm - and our first thought was - what a strange location. About a block off of Carlsbad Village Drive, but nothing else really around to drive foot traffic. Our second thought was - ok, where's the entrance? We did a complete loop before finding it, and headed upstairs to the restaurant. And our third thought was - where IS everyone? Total ghost town - and to be honest, at that point, I was pretty sure that this was yet another poor attempt at an authentic Thai restaurant. And - I was wrong. Our friends arrived shortly, and we sat down and perused the menu - even though we all kinda knew what we wanted, we wanted to see what else was out there - and good thing we did, as my wife changed her mind and went with Pumpkin Curry. I, being a total creature of habit, went with Yellow Chicken Curry with no onion - and an appetizer of Chicken Satay. Our friends ordered also, starting with Drunken noodles, another Yellow Curry (with tofu), and Rad Na (pork version). Let me interrupt this with a quick aside - the waitress was absolutely wonderful during the order process. For each entree, she specifically asked the spice level (1-10), and delivered somewhat accordingly. The food started arriving shortly thereafter - and there was a LOT of food arriving! The only nit I had was that, in my demented brain, appetizers show up before the main course. In this case, everything arrived together. That said, the main courses were incredible (and again, HUGE). While I would submit that while I asked for a spice level of 10, I got more of a 4 or 5, but when Thais see blonde hair blued eyed white guys, they tend to assume (usually correctly) that they have no idea what they're asking for. In my case, they were wrong. No biggie, I'm used to it, and next time, will definitely up the ante on the spice issue. My wife LOVED her Pumpkin Curry, and our friends enjoyed their meals as well. They pretty much finished off the Drunken Noodles, so clearly that was a hit. The only other nit that I ran into was the Chicken Satay. These things were HUGE - so much so that I could cut them in half along the length, and make a huge chicken sandwich. I've never seen it done this way - but my wife and I split one and took the rest home - that's how huge they were. The peanut sauce was amazing, as was the Thai Cucumber Salad (actually one of the better ones I've had - in California OR Thailand - it was that good). Bottom line, a worthy discovery, AND they use Door Dash - so we'll be eating Aroi Thai - Carlsbad quite a bit going forward - actually real Thai in North County....outstanding!!!

Today is Mother's Day, and my husband, one year old, and I had reservations for Mother's Day brunch at 8:45am. Mornings don't always go as planned with toddlers, so we arrived at 9am. The young hostess was very rude and let us know they can't seat us as the next wave of the brunch buffet is starting at 10:30am and that they're setting up for it. I pleaded and asked if we could eat really quickly and be in and out of there in 30 min. They harshly said no and were not understanding at all. I was pretty bummed they couldn't accommodate us, especially on Mother's Day when they could clearly see I was holding my toddler and we just wanted to get him fed. Unfortunately, due to their lack of customer service, we will not be retuning. I guess there's a reason no locals come and only hotel guests eat here. Very different vibe in customer service than the Alila Marea down the street which I would highly recommend instead for better service, views, and food.
