Haven't been back to this place in a few years and I'm glad I did! Was greeted right away and seated which was awesome on a Thursday evening. The place was bustling. Almost all the tables filled. The menu has so many different dishes from sushi to entrees like Ramen, Donburi, etc. There was also a new 5:30-closing menu which has great deals. Our server was efficient, friendly and attentive. We ordered a few rolls and tried the Popster Roll, Vegas and Lemon rolls. Each one was absolutely delicious! So fresh and not lacking at all. We also ordered the garlic edamame which was also delicious even though it was a bit spicy. Overall a great experience and strongly recommend! read more

We went in for the happy hour special but the waitress was rude and told us that they can't serve us. We are not poorly dressed or ill mannered and we don't smell. Confused and angry about the treatment. Not going to this establishment ever again & I suggest that any respectable person should avoid it as well. Honestly very confused as to what happened. What did I do wrong? To start this off, I'm sorry if I say anything entitled or stupid. Maybe I don't know these types of restaurants' etiquettes? I'm 15 and I rode in with my bike. I'm also autistic if that counts for anything lol I was trying to get some food during the happy hour, which was where you could get 50% off, so I walked in. Server greeted me, said "how can I help you?" With a confused (I think?) look on her face when I walked in. She was at one of the tables in the back setting them up. (I know I sound pretty entitled to say this but why not just instead say "hey! Table for 1?" Or something, you know? How can I help you sounds more like I'm just in there for something miscellaneous. Like I wasn't a customer but just asking for something.) I asked her if you could get something for 20 dollars, and she said "yes, 20$ is fine." She walked over and had gotten a menu into her hand, and said "do you want to sit at the bar?" I asked her if you could sit outside which she said no to, so I said instead "yeah sure I could sit at the bar." I think she cut me off or she was just a fast talker, but she then said immediately afterwards "do you have the 20 dollars?" (Uh... yeah. Why would I not? That sounded pretty noticeably rude this time around.) and I showed her my Apple Pay on my phone with my card. She looked at it for a couple seconds with a confused look on her face and then looked up at me saying "no, sorry. We don't do that." And didn't say goodbye or anything... just walked away, putting the menu back down. I awkwardly walked out after that and she looked behind herself as I left to see if I was leaving. (I think...) We were staying at the nearby Park Hyatt Aviara for a wedding and were craving some sushi--came across this spot for a late lunch. We rolled in around 2:30 PM on a Sunday and the place was completely empty. The server was really friendly and super helpful, especially with my picky parents--she helped guide them toward rolls that would be more palatable for their tastes. We ended up ordering a crunch roll, tiger roll, and a basic California roll. The fish was super fresh and flavorful, and the crunch roll lived up to its name--super crunchy and tasty. Even the pickled ginger stood out: fresh and zippy. Not too expensive either, and if you check in on Yelp you get a scoop of green tea ice cream for free! They've also got some solid happy hour deals if you happen to swing by during that window. Overall, a pretty good and satisfying meal. read more

Walked in on a Saturday night at 5:30 PM and was able to get the last available table for four people! Score! The quality of the fish is very good here and the rolls are surprisingly inexpensive. They are all listed on the menu for basically 50% off. Not sure if that's always the pricing or if it was a special promotion. My favorite of the rolls that came to our table was similar to a California roll, but it had fried lobster chunks on top. Was on their special appetizer menu. I also got a crunchy spicy tuna roll... It was just OK for me. I didn't really like the flavoring on the spicy tuna. My friends got a dragon roll that I did not get a photo of that they seemed to really enjoy. We also ordered the large sashimi platter. It's advertised on the menu as being six piece pieces each of five types of fish (6x5). It was very good, the fish tasted fresh and the consistency was tender like butter. I know we paid for the large sashimi platter, but when I look at this photo, I realize that we got five pieces each of five types of fish. This such a nice little Japanese restaurant by our house. This was our second visit. This last time my husband and I went with my mom so we ordered apps to share: garlic edamame (had a slight spiciness - sooo good), Alaskan roll, gyoza... all so good! My husband got the bento and his chicken katsu was so yummy and crunchy! My mom's chicken teriyaki was pretty good. My hamachi Kama was THE BEST! My husband said it was his favorite! The piece was a good size too! Will def be back to get it or try the chirashi. Love the big menu with lots of options. We got a really good roll last time, can't remember the name. Delicious sushi and very fresh sashimi! We arrived at 5:45 PM on a Saturday and the restaurant was already buzzing and full. We began with the salted edamame and the Sashimi Supreme, featuring salmon, tuna, yellowtail, albacore, halibut, and fresh snapper. The edamame was perfectly prepared, and the sashimi was exceptionally fresh and high-quality. We also tried a monthly special - a California-style roll topped with lobster bites - which was flavorful and delicious. The only minor letdown was the Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll; the tuna was a bit tough compared to the other dishes. Our servers were great, though we did notice some pacing issues with the kitchen. The rolls didn't arrive in sequence, and there were long gaps between courses. That said, we never felt rushed to give up our table, which we appreciated. Wow, this place is incredible. What a little gem right here in Carlsbad. The gyoza are really yummy, the chicken teriyaki was excellent ,the seaweed salad was the best I've ever had, and the Carlsbad roll is incredible. Their rolls are so generous with so much fish, very little rice, and lots of ingredients and toppings. We will be coming back here over and over again for sure! read more

Updating my review and unfortunately returning it back to 4 stars. This is one of my go to places, it's been good sushi, at a reasonable price, and the amount has been above par, at least until recently. The last couple months something changed, possibly the chef's, and the size of the nigiri and amount of fish on the rolls is about half of what it used to be. It's still good, with happy hour the price is good, and the service has always been good. I'll keep going back, but unfortunately I can't say it's worthy of 5 stars anymore. read more

We're not from the area but we're staying nearby at the park Hyatt Aviara. We spent the week there because of my daughter's 6th birthday. On her actual birthday we went to Legoland and when we asked what our daughter what she wanted she said sushi. We found this place on yelp. She was wearing a bright pink headband that said happy birthday. The waitress enthusiastically greeted her happy birthday and asked her if she wanted a birthday song. My daughter was so excited for this song. She talked about it our entire dinner. We ordered a ton of sushi and appetizers. Our meal was nearing the end we never asked for the bill but she just shoved the bill on our table. We were nothing but nice to her even though she forgot to give us many things including our utensils. My daughter asked us for her song but the waitress just said have a good night. While this seems completely meaningless to many it's completely heartbreaking for a parent to watch. Why even ask if you can't deliver. Waitress completely ruined what was supposed to be a cheerful night. Luckily the hotel made up for it. read more

No one acknowledged us when we arrived and we only got seated because I flagged down one of the servers when he walked by. Food was extremely slow to arrive as well. I'm just glad they came out with the kids meal first so they could at least finish and be full before we got our food. Food finally came out but we never got chopsticks. I ended up getting up to grab some on my own. The two young kid servers never came back out to the dining room. If we waited for them to get us chopsticks, we would've been here till closing. They have signs stating if you check in on Yelp you can get a free ice cream so that might be why this place has so many positive reviews. The rolls here were very mediocre... the best thing we ordered was the garlic edamame. I got the mango roll which was advertised as having avocado in it & the roll came to the table without a trace of avocado and it seemed like the shrimp tempura was a bit undercooked. Not to mention my roll was falling apart because the rice was sticking to the plate in huge chunks. The restaurant itself is very dark with dim lighting even in the middle of the day.
