This reminds me of my years in and around Hong Kong. It's huge, has everything Chinese, fresh seafood, fruits and vegetables. Tanks of crabs, fish, lobster, even alligators on beds of ice. It's a little unkempt, no big deal! The place gets plenty of customers so by the end of the day, it's pretty untidy. If you don't want to see what you are eating in its raw or living form, don't go near the meat, seafood or poultry section! Good Asian market alternative to ranch 99 located in Oceanside, North County, which is 15-20 minutes from our house versus 25-30 minutes Going to Mira Mesa ranch 99. I find it more convenient and they have pretty much quality produce from ginger, garlic, greens, spinach, taro leaves, taro root, and other fresh Asian herbs. Prices are a little bit pricier than ranch 99 I would say 20 to 25% higher in cost, but is more convenient here for last minute Asian sauces, proteins, and vegetables and produce. They have a full Service fish counter that has fresh fish that they will fillet and or fry for you, fresh shrimp, in all types of sizes, grabs, various types of fish, and other seafood products. They stock many types of sauces from Korean to soy to Japanese. Plenty of parking market is clean and well stocked, great desserts, and various types of Bakery items as well. read more

It's still somewhat more affordable than regular supermarkets and their selection of produces is large. I have been living 12 years in Asia, so I cooked Asian-French fusion pretty much every day. 88 Ranch has everything to fulfill my Asian food cravings without having to drive down to Mira Messa! A huge plus for the live blue crabs (7.99/lb) and the live crawfish! 88 offers everything for the perfect seafood boil.... For north county to have an Asian market, I knew I had to come check it out! Normally I would drive down south to resupply my ingredients but if there's somewhere closer I may need to change where I shop! I've been to the Temecula location and already significantly more impressed with this location. It felt much more open and brighter. Everything is easy to navigate to and organized. Prices are also super competitive to their San Diego counterparts, normally most items would be more expensive in north county. If I had more time and a plan, I would want to get more frozen items and possibly items from the seafood counter. read more

I'm so excited to find a really good Asian market in North County so I don't have to drive down to 99 Ranch all the time. They have all the major things that you need. They have a huge meat section and fish section. I love that it's clean and smells good. Parking is very easy. Prices seem in line with everything else. I will still have to drive down to Nijiya or 99 Ranch for a certain specialty items, but this makes it a lot easier on those days when I just don't want to drive down there but I want to cook some legit Asian meals for dinner. I wanted to make pho at home and found this little Asian market gem in Oceanside. They have a pho spice packet for a few bucks, which was a little challenging to find, but it did the trick! They also have produce, meat, bones, etc...and everything you might need! I moved to Vista recently, and was so sad because I was close to Convoy and 99 Ranch, so I'm spoiled. This place, however is a little slice of heaven because it's exactly like down south! The building itself is fairly small, but the selection is varied and has lots of aisles despite that. One thing is that I don't think I've seen anyone behind the counter of the frozen fish or meat section in the back, so I'm not sure when they have the butcher there. But it's great to have somewhere in can pick up fermented soybeans or kimchi or pork feet. It's rarely busy, and has ample parking out front. I think only once did we have to wait in line for checkout. I love coming here for produce, as some of the items like the carrots are HUGE. Highly recommend if you're in the area! read more

This store is very clean and well organized. Their selection of vegetables and fruit is a little lack luster. However they make up with it in quality. Their veggies are also on the pricey side than other Asian markets. They also have a great selection of meat and sea food. They range from octopus, to clams, to unique cuts of beef or chicken, which are becoming increasingly harder to get a hold off. The store is small and a little underwhelming, but it will get you what you need in a pinch. I would give it a 3.5 but a 4 will do. read more

I wanted to love 88 Ranch. I really did. North County doesn't exactly have an abundance of Asian markets, so I was ready to roll in here like it was the promised land. And it's... fine. Like, knockoff-handbag-from-a-street-vendor fine. It looks like a 99 Ranch at first glance, but once you're inside, you can tell something's missing. The selection is fine. You can get your sauces, noodles, frozen dumplings, and random snacks you forgot you needed. But the prices? Kind of rude. I don't expect rock-bottom prices, but I also don't want to leave wondering if I just paid luxury tax on a bag of bok choy. It's clean, it's organized, and it'll do in a pinch. But if you've ever been to a real 99 Ranch, this one feels like the version your cousin told you was "just as good" but somehow doesn't hit the same. Still, in North County, beggars can't be choosy -- and if you need your Asian grocery fix without driving to the moon, 88 Ranch is your spot. read more

So close to our house and its so nice to have an asian supermarket that sells such a variety. Lines move quickly at the register. We also buy fried fish here, you go to the fish counter and ask them to clean and fry for you, takes about 20 mins or so. And its always fried perfectly. This might be the worst Asian market I've been to. But beggars can't be choosers, and this is possibly the only authentic Asian market in the area. They are a much smaller version of Ranch 99. Imagine a Trader Joe's version where you'll find most things you need, but have a limited selection of them. For example, you'll find a handful of moon cakes for mid autumn festival, and a handful of candied New Years sweets. Seasonal items are right on the shelf by the entrance. Despite it's limited selection, I'm glad to have an Asian market in Oside. read more

They have a great selection of dried goods and sauces but their produce section is not only lacking but extremely overpriced. I went in on Saturday (2/19/22) and bought a drink. Normally I don't really pay too much attention to the expiration dates of these drinks but I really should have. It had already expired a few days prior. Seeing that it was just a few days, I finished it anyway because obviously I wasn't going to go back for a few dollars but I do think markets should do a thorough check on what is expiring on their shelves. It's really nice having an Asian supermarket nearby! They don't stock as much as what you'd find at 99 ranch or seafood city, but there's definitely find a good variety here. There was one instance where I found a (small) spider hiding in one of the fruit cups I got my kids in the fridge section - but other than that everything here is pretty legit. I mainly come to buy snacks for friends and family as care packages. If you're doing the same then this place is perfect! Oh! They also have an area in the back whee they can clean and fry fish, so if you're into that then this might be a game changer. read more

Business operating during the pandemic, "thank you" Review #29 so close, I can swing by 88 Ranch Market's to re-stock my freaky kitchen a couple of times a week. all my pantry staples: Red Boat Fish Sauce, Sriracha, and Healthy Boy's whole line. pork belly, head-on shrimp, nice variety of fresh fish, and lots of stock pot options (pigs feet, cow feet, chicken feet and necks). they no longer carry live blue crabs (might be seasonal but I'm guessing they're too hard to keep alive and have a really short shelf life after they go claws up). fresh rice noodles for my Thai stir-fries and carry a wide variety of fresh Asian herbage, mushrooms, fruits, and veggies. it's a major plus that they're a LOT closer than Clairemont Mesa. read more

This is just what we needed here in north county! I love 88 Ranch. It's beautiful & clean & has a great selection of produce, fish, meat, and shelf items. There's essentially an entire fridge dedicated to apples. Apples! Big, beautiful, color coordinated APPLES. And Korean pears, so many exotic fruits... I mean, it's bomb. I also come here for my seafood. I grill or bake whole fish almost weekly, and I love coming to 88 for the selection. Can't beat the prices & freshness. The butchers will gut the fish for you too if you like. So happy to have this nearby; definitely beats the drive down into San Diego! read more

I have come here a few times and its overpriced. The tags aren't always accurate so be careful. The vegetables and meats are priced like other asian markets, but everything else is expensive. Its convenient if you are in the area and dont want to drive to Clairemont for what you need. The store is kept clean, but there aren't enough carts for people. the employees dont seem happy to be there. overall, its not a bad place. if i happen to be on the 78, i usually stop here to grab some things. If you aren't in need of items, or willing to drive, i would suggest going to 99 ranch market. they have a larger selection and weekly sales ads. It's not the best but there's nothing else in North County! I really wish 99 Ranch just open one in North County instead of another one one exit from Clairemont one. No common sense! First, this is an ASIAN market. You will not find "American" products here. If you're looking for that go across the street to Albertsons. Second, this is a small space. It won't have everything like big ole 99 ranch. Just think of this as the D+ version of 99. It's more expensive, less variety and less things. Third, they do have all the necessity of making an Asian dish. Like hot pot! They have all vegetables, nicely wrapped. You can find bok choy, rau rum, Napa cabbage, root vegetables, all sorts of mushrooms, Thai basil, coriander and basics like mint, cilantro, bean sprouts it s, etc. go Saturday, lots of options, Sunday things are gone! Forth, they do have a variety of fish! Any fish and some live blue crab. See pictures for fish counter. They also gut for you and they can also fry the fish. The meat counter is okay, all you need though for Asian dishes. Fifth, all the other basic Asian items, like plate and silverware, small bakery section, huge Asian soft drinks, spices, three ladies rice, balut eggs, and even fresh banh cuon. Finally I went to check it out! And finally a Sprouts-sized market for asian foods in North County! I'm not familiar with 88 but I've heard about the temecula one. I was thinking it would be similar to 99 ranch since the names are similar but no, it's different. It's more like an all-round Asian market including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Vietnamese foods, as compared to the more Chinese-centric, Taiwanese-owned 99 ranch. I also shop at Asian 101 in San Marcos and the Chinese owner felt the same way. This store has a lot of different asian items, but if you're hoping to find something very Chinese, or very Japanese or Korean, you might not get it here. If I have to pick, it'll be more Chinese-Vietnamese. So, as a pure Chinese, it wasn't quite satisfying for me to shop here, but it's close. The best part I liked about it was its cleanliness. It didn't smell like fish or rotten meat. The items were also organized. The selection of meat was quite good but the seafood department could be a little more extensive. Also some of the aisles were narrow. There was traffic jam at the corner where the leafy vegetables were and it was kinda chaotic especially given it's covid times. Same for the area where the seafood counter was. People were waiting and I was trying to maneuver my cart around the crowd... Parking was plenty as that area wasn't packed especially with restaurants were doing takeout only. There was no shopping cart collection station so you'd have to return the cart to the store entrance. Overall not bad and I'd shop there if I need something and don't want to drive to 99. read more

I've read a lot of complaints about this place and I suppose many of them are true, but for me, I'm really glad we have an asian market of this size so close to home. They sell a lot of things that you just don't get at Albertsons. Ever since I learned how to make my own Pho, I come here every other week for bean sprouts, pho spices, MSG, noodles, etc. I love that they always have Thai basil, mint and other herbs in small packages. Maybe these are "pricey" but to me, $1.99 for a large package of mint is not expensive. My one complaint is the fresh mussels they sometimes put out. The last time I purchased a container, many of the mussels were dead and the ones that were left were not fresh tasting. So "freshness" here is hit-or-miss but overall I'm still quite happy this store even exists up here deep in Oceanside. read more

Nice to finally have a proper Asian market in N. County. Don't have to go all the way down to Clairemont or Mira Mesa for everyday basic Asian ingredients. They could provide more consistentcy with product availability, but the pandemic may be cause for that. The store layout is good, shelves and floors are clean, and aisles are organized. After numerous drives into San Diego for Asian food and grocery stories this was a blessing to find 15 min away. Not only was the store so beautiful, clean and organized it was so easy to find everything I wanted and more. Even for someone who is unfamiliar with many of the Asian products the labels and placement of the items made it easy to figure out. I was able to find specialty produce I typically only find in Hawaii. The staff was so friendly and the aisles were so clearly marked. Although, this is a small store compared to the H mart or ranch 99 it still had everything we needed to make all our favorites. We loved spending a couple of hours in this market. It has so many International offerings. They have everything! It is clean and the employees are friendly. The meat and seafood looked so healthy. Also, the GREEN produce section is mind blowing! I will not be going tot he regular grocery store for produce anymore. They have a huge selection of Hot Pot ingredients including the appliances to make it. The selection of sweet and salty treats is enormous! They literally have EVERYTHING! We had a lot of fun and we were educated on various items we knew nothing about. We got so many snacks we have never tried before. I read the other reviews comparing it to the larger market and feel it's unfair to have expectations of something when clearly it isn't that. Also, read about expiration dates being an issue. Well, I have found expired things in regular grocery stores also. Who doesn't check an expiro date in the store? I feel everything is expensive everywhere and it's not just this market in particular. On our first visit, the manager asked my family member and I "Why are you still here?" after crossing paths with us at check out. Sarcasm or not, the comment was not necessary at all -- and not to mention, just plain confusing because there were other customers that shopped about the same time as us. During our last and final visit, my family member and I were watched by the manager and followed outside. It started at check out, where he specifically asked us to come to another register even though we were second in line and the couple in front of us were almost done. Item after item, he takes his sweet time and kind of inspects what we're buying, like something was wrong in his eyes. Then, come the time we're out of the store and unloading our things into our car, I walk the cart back to the store and was surprised to see this same dude walking towards me. He took my cart away as soon as we crossed -- made no sense, because I was just steps away from the return -- and went back inside without saying a word, making it clear he had only one reason to care at all to go outside. 99 Ranch is an hour away, but this isn't it. While i liked this spot as the old Fresh & Easy I like it even more as an 88 Ranch. It's clean, it's tidy, the prices are good. My only gripe is the no return policy and a few items they don't carry (sawtooth, xo sauce, fresh chow fun noodles) I'd say the breakdown of products is probably 10% Chinese, 15% Japanese, 20% Thai, 20% Filipino, 20% Thai, 15% Vietnamese, so it's a good mix and i cook a little of everything. Being Filipino we had a few options for ingredients like Lita's, Mission Asian Market & Filipino Depot without having to drive much further to Mira Mesa or San Diego for things. Cooking at home a lot more due to the pandemic things i get on a regular basis here are green papaya for tinola and salads, galangal & kaffir lime leaves for tom yum, katsuoboshi for miso soup, squid, seaweed salad, milk tea, shrimp chips. read more

No longer giving them my business. DO NOT SHOP HERE. THEY ARE PROFIT-DRIVEN and don't care about customer service. My kids accidentally broke a bottle of seasoning I've never tried before. I immediately went in to ask for a new bottle. The store manager gave a smug and asked, "well is it our fault that this broke?" I said, "I'm not blaming you, but can you write this one off and can I get a new one bc I wanted to try this brand and I don't want to buy another one without knowing if I'd like it." They still refused and said, you still need to buy another one bc I didn't break it in their store. It broke outside their store in the parking lot. Never had I had any issues like this before in other supermarkets, they would replace the items no problem with question.
