Staff is pleasant and helpful and, once you're a regular customer and they know you, go above and beyond. Even better they'll give you good advice that will ultimately save you money. Made appointment with Louis for a rear brake inspection. This Taber Auto appointment was triggered by inspection visit to a local Large Chain auto service location. Scouring local service stations on Google and Yelp I opted for the 4.9/5 390 votes google star, Taber Auto Ithaca NY. A very common feature for each review was the service quality, integrity and kindness of Louis. Louis answers the phone, follows up with each client, told me the truth and fixed my service issue. Today my rear brake job was completed after status updates throughout the morning from Louis. The job was completed under the EOD promise time, and Taber auto also completed my inspection. Louis went further to say he would have passed me before begining the work as my rear brakes were within allowable tolerances. Now I will visit Taber Auto for all of my repairs. A wise mentor once told me, people go where they are made to feel welcome and stay where they are treated well. Louis treated me well and I plan to stay with Taber Auto. read more

Louis is highly skilled and honest. I'm so glad we found him to take care of our autos. He's great at explaining what's going on with your vehicle if you don't have a mechanic background. He replaced the brakes on our Subaru Forrester, and one year later we were having problems with the brakes making a grinding sound. Louis took it apart and realized it wasn't the caliper, but the brake pads went wrong. He replaced it all for free and said the pads were under warranty. He didn't even charge us for labor. I've never received a call like this from my auto mechanic! He's the only one we will trust with our cars moving forward while in Ithaca. read more

Simply amazing!! We were in Ithaca for just one day when we had a serious brake issue with our vehicle. Desperate, we went to Tabor Street Auto and they immediately jumped to help us. Steve and his team went WAY above and beyond to help us, including coordinating a special run to Syracuse for the parts needed to fix our brakes! My clutch had been squeaking for a few days and right as I was rolling down Cherry Street it started burning up. I pulled into Taber Street out of convenience, and they diagnosed it on the spot and gave me an estimate, but said they couldn't get it done until Monday (it was Thursday morning, a fair time estimate to replace an entire clutch but stressful for me - I live 10 miles out of town and coordinating rides would be difficult). I called around to see if anyone else could do it quicker, and everyone gave similar time and cost estimates- Trombley actually referred me back to Taber Street. I left it there on Thursday and they called me early Friday morning and said it was done! One of the guys had wanted some overtime and they could tell I was stressed out about not having the car for the weekend, so they pushed the work up the list! The only reason I'm at 4 stars instead of 5: Friday evening my heat shield started rattling due to the way they put things back together. I called them 15 minutes before closing, and they said they'd fix it first thing Monday morning if I could be there at 8, which they did, no charge. read more

We needed new camper tires and the guys at Taber street were the only ones of about 10 places we called that were willing to order and change tires on our camper in the snow. We love Taber Street Auto. We have 3 cars - one very, very old; one fairly good; and one brand new and they have always done a fantastic job with all three. They have really cute dogs at the reception area - very big dogs, I was told they are great dens. Really cute dogs. And the guys seem honest. I was recommended Taber Street Auto Repair by a neighbor and I am very glad I took his advice. I was told by a major auto dealer repair shop that my rack and pinion needed to replaced after they had just replaced the steering column. I was already in $600 for the steering column, which did not fix the clunking noise coming from the front end. They told me for another $1300 I needed to replace the rack and pinion. They were supposedly discounting the $600 I already put into the steering column. Basically a $2,000 job. Well, wrong diagnosis! The team at Taber said I just needed to replace the sway bar bushings. I told them to go ahead and replace the stabilizer arms while they were in there. My RAV 4 has 152K+ miles, so might as well for an extra $100 bucks. The cost of the repair was $330--compare that to $2,000 for a misdiagnosed repair. I am also getting the $600 refunded after contacting the repair shop on the original work. Thank you Taber Team and Steve. Fair, honest and reasonable. They have a new customer and I recommend this shop for your repairs or especially second opinions--it could save you big money! read more

The service was ok. The owner looks like Richard Petty on meth. The worst part was as I was getting in my truck the key hole was pushed in. I asked what happened and they told me it was a clip on the back that must have fell off. Later that week I investigated and found they had rammed the key in so hard that they broke my lock. If that wasn't enough. 2 weeks later my turn signals stopped working. I called them and told them the situation, that the column they installed was defective. He assured me its something else. I checked EVERYTHING else looking for the problem. Nothing. Then I pulled apart the column to investigate their work. I was horrified as to what I found. Not only was the wiring harness broke, the harness had a screw jammed in it to hold it together. The wiring had all come out and the issue was clearly their work. They denied it and I had to rewire it myself. It works as it should now and they have forever lost a customer and I tell everyone I know to stay away unless u want inexpensive work done that you will have to fix again. In closing I hope they get the karma they deserve for shoddy work they perform. Is there a negative star section? read more

I recently used this business to make repairs to a 20-year old vehicle to help it pass annual NY State inspection requirements. I was wary that the fixes could be made, let alone at a reasonable price, but Taber Street Auto exceeded expectations at every turn. After inspecting it, they performed the services well ahead of schedule and 50% UNDER the estimated cost! Yes, you read that correctly! When I picked up the car, the service man (Steve) even graciously refused a tip I wanted to provide for the excellent service. They really made my day! Taber Street Auto is the worst rip off car fit-it place in Ithaca. We had them for 1 year with lots of work that was done on 3 older cars. For a while, we said ok fix the problems & we paid the enormous amounts, none of the repairs were under $1200. So a couple months go by and it is time for inspection on our 2007 Subaru Legacy and the cost was to be $2200. What they said was we needed a cataylic converter. We did not think it was correct so we took it to Country Automotive and they find on there monitor that it only needed an O2 sensor. Country Automotive saved us $850.00. Clearly, Taber St. was lying and only trying to get money out of us. Well, no more, cause I would not step foot at taber st. again. And, neither will any of our friends and family.
