This issue required me to walk one mile to my home late at night in February, another mile up hill the following day, cost for tow, and the cost for an extra repair. Bruce's Pit Stop told me that topping fluids is not included in an oil change, which is unheard of. Terrible shop.

I'm one of those women who thinks every mechanic is out to get me, and I was especially skittish when we first brought the car in but hoped I'd feel better with a woman-owned shop. Our previous mechanic had failed to diagnose a problem that resulted in completely destroyed brakes in January and a $1500 bill. Diane's got our car back on the road in no time, consistently keeping us updated as they had to adjust the project. Two years and lots of Ithaca hills later, Diane's has fixed the brakes twice. First they replaced a faulty part for free, and then just this week they replaced the rotors and pads at a labor discount. Their service has been consistent (they even text, which makes managing this so much easier during a busy work day!) and Diane herself took the time to explain to me why our brakes needed work (again). I'm grateful to finally find a shop I can trust!

Then they charged above market rate for poor service. My headlight was OUT and they never even checked it during the inspection. They charged me for 2+ labor hours when it took about an hour and there was truly only one guy working on my car. They "drained" the brake fluid for at least a half hour and no one was even working on it during that time. Yet they charged me nearly for a full 2 hours for this service. I had to go to another garage just to check if they messed up my car in the process. Lo and behold, my brake fluid reservoir was more than half empty. I didn't ask them to look at it; my car was there for exhaust work. Now I wonder if it really needed the full muffler replacement that cost $380. UPDATE, 2 days later: Mavis/Cole contacted me based on this review, and my husband was separately contacted after giving severe feedback in the customer satisfaction survey he got after this service. Mavis/Cole has reimbursed us for the full cost of the PSF replacement. The store and regional manager apologized for this happening and agreed it should not have been done. (I pointed out that I have a Mavis/Cole receipt from a couple years ago showing that they recommended changing the PSF just 6,000 miles after it had been done at the dealership, when obviously it was not needed--so I think this is an ongoing issue. The awful staff/managers I talk about from 2019-2023 were finally dealt with. I scheduled an inspection, was expecting the disaster of every year before, so I made sure to call & check it was in the books. John reassured me it's there, and he'll be taking care of the inspection. Sure enough, he was the lone staff manning the location that day. He got everything taken care of in less than 30 mins. Even noticed something that needed sprucing up & did that service. I could cry. Never in 5 years with this place did they actually do their job well. I hope they give John proper support staff so he sticks around! He's done wonders for the place. 2023 draft (a one-two star review): The men working there had mostly been unpleasant to deal with--some to the point of hostile (unlike the guys over at the Elmira Road location, who were nice. Angel, in particular.) We've been customers at this Triphammer Monro for about 4 years now, and EVERY single time we bring the car in--whether it's for a a safety inspection or service--something goes very wrong. This year, they scheduled us for a safety inspection, but when we took it in at the appointment time, they claimed their safety inspector was done for the day. So everything we had needed that depended on the safety inspection for got completely derailed. If their service and work was really decent, then we could let it slide...but come on.
