The owner is a nut and wants to fight people all the time- even paying customers. He's a child that refuses to help with a tow if it's inconvenient for him (he has nothing else going on- he just doesn't like working on the weekends or after 5pm). Overall the owner is extremely hostile, strange, miserable, and genuinely provides a terrible experience for paying customers who simply need help. Never in my life have I ever met such a negative and difficult person. If you need help on the weekend or after hours good luck. It's just not worth working with this person. read more

In the past Charlie's has been wonderful and fast BUT...... Yesterday afternoon we called and were told they couldn't get to us until between 8 and 9 this morning. At 9:10 we called them and they had no record of our call. On top of that their fee has double last year. When my husband reacted, the guy on the phone got very rude and nasty. We left it that they would get here in 45 min. Then we reconsidered and called Koskinen who will be here in 1 hour for less money. We called Charlie's back to cancel and was told he wasn't sending anyone out here anyway. Who owns this business now? read more

Wow, what speedy, efficient and polite service! We came out of our Ithaca hotel in the morning to find our car battery dead--so dead that jumper cables did nothing. Charlie's Towing dispatched one of their guys, who came within 10 mins. He got the car started but his gauge indicated that the battery wasn't going to keep the charge. He changed it out in a flash. We were on an urgent family errand and distressed about the setback of the dead battery but Charlie's Towing really turned things around. Thank you! read more

I had a great experience with Charlie's towing. I was stuck in the middle of a busy road in Woodbury during heavy traffic and he showed up only a few minutes after the police. I called the police long before the tow truck. He was prompt, professional and very polite. His prices are also reasonable so I was pleased. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE- they were rude, condescending, and SO UNHELPFUL I didn't know people like this existed. We called AAA asking for a battery replacement and when they came they jumped the car and the guy said "I don't do replacements, I'm scared of high voltage"????? The battery was dead so of course after they jumped it it STILL didn't work. He just left..: when I called again to ask them to rejump it bc IT STILL DIDNT WORK, they were incredibly rude and acted like it was my fault??? Clearly they are only in business because they work under AAA, don't go here! read more

Called them this morning and made arrangements for a tow at a predetermined time and place. Was informed that they would be there. While waiting for tow, saw one of their trucks go by. Called them and inquired as to when the tow would arrive. Was informed that their trucks were in Cortland and Elmira and that I would have to wait for at least an hour to be towed. When I explained that I had made an appointment I was told that they do not make appointments! Never had the decency to call me and let me know that they were not able to get my car as was arranged. Called another towing company in Ithaca and they were there within 15 minutes!! Will NEVER call Charlie's Towing again! Don't know why YELP posted that I am from San Francisco. I've had 2 experiences with them. Neither was good. The first time, I needed a tow to Elmira for exhaust work. Even though it was early in the morning, it took about an hour for them to arrive to where I was in Ithaca (about a 15 minute drive). Then to top things off, the guy loaded my car onto the truck in such a way that my front license plate fell off en route to the mechanic's, which ended up costing me an extra $50 for new plates. Time number two, I was going through AAA, and I was told it would be a 45 minute wait. That's fine. After an hour and a half I call back to AAA and ask where they are, they say that the computers have them listed as picking up the vehicle currently, which they definitely were not doing since I was waiting right next to my car. After another half hour of waiting, I decide to cancel the call to them and have another company (which only has 2 trucks) take my car instead. They arrive after about 45 minutes. Don't use Charlie's if at all possible. They're a major waste of time. AAA told us they're one of only two AAA-approved towing companies "near Ithaca", but there's one out in Trumansburg that's probably closer that they mentioned as not being close to Ithaca (the part of Newfield that Charlies operates from isn't exactly close to Ithaca either). If possible, ask for any other towing company. read more

My car broke down in Ithaca, and I called AAA. These guys were there fast and helped me figure out what was wrong with my car, so it didn't need to be towed. They recommended good mechanics for me and made sure that my car was driving perfectly before they left. Good experience overall! read more

My serpentine belt broke and Triple A sent Charlie's to tow me. A really nice guy named Jeff was there in about a half hour, and although the weather was terrible, Jeff was in a Great mood. AAA called Charlie's for us when our car broke down recently. After waiting approximately 90 minutes, their truck entered the lot and promptly drove through, out and away from it without slowing down to see my wife running behind them, waving. She had to call into AAA again and start the entire process over, and so she waited a total of 200 minutes in 90+ degree heat. Thanks Charlie's! read more

My daughter who is attending Ithaca college car would not start. The college offers a service to jump start cars, so we had them jump start the car. She was letting it run to charge the battery when the car died, figured it was the alternator or something else in the electrical system. We contacted AAA to have the car towed to the Goodyear Service Center. When the tow truck driver got there, my daughter explained to him what happened and that the car needed to be towed to Goodyear. The tow truck driver jump started the car, said it was fine and left. The car died again within minutes. She called the tow truck driver, he said nothing he could do, he was off to his next towing job...WTF! So I called AAA again, low and be hold, the same driver showed up and finally towed her car to Goodyear (by the way, Goodyear was awesome, they'll get 5 stars from me). Who in their right mind would leave a young lady stranded? Another WTF! I wonder if Charlie's charged AAA for 2 towing services.....time to call AAA again! read more

I've used Charlie's three times--all three times through AAA. On ALL occasions they arrived in less than the time I was told it would take. Two of those occasions were for towing and on both they tried to help me resolve the problem first so my car didn't have to be towed. On the most recent occurrence they were successful, thus avoiding a tow and a visit to my mechanic. :) read more
