For years and years, I would stop by this place at least 4 times a year on my way back/forth from OC to SF. Have used the bathroom, got gas, always bought drinks and snacks. However, my family has decided, "Eh, they don't care about our business enough to provide us with toilet seat covers anymore; we'll just stop and give our money to somewhere else where they didn't decide to cheap out on providing this." I always stop for gasoline and using the restroom during travel. But today I walked in to use the women's restroom I didn't see any sign posted when I got in that it was being cleaned up. The convenience store part of this establishment was fine, which is the only reason I give it two stars. The Burger King/Taco Bell/Pizza Hut section was atrocious. Trash was overflowing. Stopped here for gas and a pit stop. Pumps won't let you use a Shell gift card to pay so you have to go inside. Gas prices are less than expected for a busy road stop - $0.2.0 less per gallon than my Shell at home. Pumps are congested and the lanes are narrow. We've been driving down to SoCal the last several years on I-5. Our destination is the Palm Springs area so we need to fill gas and make a comfort stop here in Arvin before we make our way up the Grapevine. TA offers both. It's a truck stop. Plenty of pumps at the Shell gas station. And the same with women restrooms inside the Wheeler Ridge East Travel Center. Go inside the convenience store to find the restrooms. Two different sections. One adjacent to the men's and another across the hall to the right. And fast food inside to select from: Burger King, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Popeye's, & Subway. There are tables indoors and outdoors. The Tejon shopping outlets are across the road too. Depending on when we make our comfort stop, we'll grab a bite to eat and then drive over to do a little shopping before we continue on. Nice BiG TA off the 5 freeway as you're coming down the Cajon Pass. This is a very large truck stop with everything you could ever need. Every time I've been here, I've never seen this place full. Inside you have a nice area to relax and watch tv after a long day of driving. They have the normal truck stop snacks, drinks, gifts and toys. They also have an assortment of truck accessories. Inside you'll find a Taco Bell, Subway, Popeyes and Burger King. It also provides a nice well lit area with ample seating if you're trying to get out of the big rig for awhile. The staff was friendly and everything was well maintained. I showered in stall #2 and to my surprise I didn't have to wait for a shower to come available. In the shower area, they provided you with towels, soap and a hairdryer. The water pressure was sufficient although it didn't get as hot as I would of liked. They even had a wall fan in case the shower area became to stuffy. Overall this is an ABOVE average truck stop. I would even be inclined to say probably one of the best in California. I actually got a Fish Sandwich with Cheese from the Burger King - $6 just for the sandwich. A big too pricy for my taste for a sandwich that would cost $4 back in Sacramento. * Also in this center is a literal "store" - think of a mini-WalMart with all sorts of random items, including camping gear, rifles, tents and the like - not your usual gas station stop. But since truckers are a big demographic for stores like these, they also sell CB Radios! FACILITIES Great restrooms. And showers! This is a full service outfit here. GAS It's expensive. Have you ever woken up and realized you slept with a whole bunch of strangers and didn't even know it? No drama girl, I ain't talking about no rufie. Watch yo' cup. Considering the amount of people, surprisingly I wasn't in the least bit sore *wink* Some LARGE and in CHARGE, some small and tall, some roBUST in the Bust, all walks of life slumped over in huddled masses. All jokes aside, considering the situation, this place was a heaven-sent. We were driving home from SF when we found out that the freeways were closed because of the snow and wind. I mean not just the 5 freeway, but all the connecting freeways were blocked. There was no way out and we were given two options: To drive back and hit the 166 til the 101 and drive along the coast which is a 6 or 7 hour detour depending on traffic, or we could spend the night and wait it out. We, like a lot of folks, didn't want to drive in the dangerous conditions so we decided to stay the night. But all the hotels in the area were full! WTF do we do now? Camp out inside a gas station that's what! I have to say, that this gas station pretty much has everything you could want in case of an emergency or in case the whole world becomes infected with a disease that turns them all into monsters and you hide here away from them. They had TVs, showers for truckers, large impeccably clean bathrooms, a mini arcade to entertain yourself, clothes to buy in case you need clean ones, outlets to charge your phones (thank jesus) dry food, drinks, and whole bunch of fast food like BK, Pizza Hut, Subway, Popeye's, and Taco Bell. And to top it off, all the workers were so sweet and helpful! They understood the stress people must have felt because of the freezing snow weather, the fact they're stuck in the middle of nowhere, and people are confused as to whats going on with the freeways. They were all on top of it helping people find out where to go, handing out maps, calling Cal Trans to find out the available freeways, all the while being cordial and warm. I'm grateful we stopped here for the night and glad they made a horrible situation just a little less horrible. (You know that point where you're so tired and exhausted you couldn't care less what you look like and what you're wearing? I have a UHAUL trailer attached to my car and came down the hill and my brakes were smoking. The reason this place gets a 5 stars is the staff, specifically the security guard, Armando. I love that this location is so conveniently located next to the 5. I guess all TA centers are, but when I tell you I was happy to see this center, I MEAN IT!! We've made a couple of stops along the Highway thus far, but the customer service and cleanliness left MUCH to be desired. I'm so glad we found this location. Their "system was down" and they charged my card twice. They then said that I needed to pay in cash. I told them they charged my card twice and the manager was rude and apathetic. I showed her that the charges went through and she charged me twice. She insisted that their "system was down" even though the transaction went through twice and other people were able to complete their transactions. I scraped up enough cash to pay and they told me that I needed to resolve the double charge on my card with my card company. I have disputed the charges and they have not been helpful. I understand when technology doesn't work however, the manager was rude and not helpful. I will not be stopping here again. read more

My go-to rest stop whenever going up north from Los Angeles. I remember coming here as a child when my family and I lived up north and were coming to SoCal... now it's me driving the opposite way to visit my family. This TA has changed ALOT and looks nothing like it did back then. I think the only thing that looks the same is the TA at the entrance and the fact that Burger King is still there! I can't believe that we used to come here when Burger King was the only option for food here!! They used to have an arcade here back in the day too!! Wow, the memories I have coming here when I was young! Driving to Sacramento to visit family takes me 6-7 hours, depending on traffic, so this is always my first potty/stretch/gas stop. TA is a lot less scary and sketchy than the PETRO on the other side of the freeway. There's also more eateries inside this TA. Here you can get Burger King, Pizza hut, Subway, Popeyes, Taco Bell... and of course, gas station hot dogs and drinks. They sell some random truck stop items for the truck drivers and some random novelty gift items, such as gigantic candy bars. There is also a large selection of fountain drinks, coffee, bottle drinks, etc. The store overall is clean. The bathrooms are plentiful here and there is never a line. The Shell gas station in front has a ton of pumps! Rarely would you ever have to wait... maybe if you are traveling on a high travel holiday day. There is plenty of parking here and in the back, there is an area you can take your 4 legged friends if you are traveling with them. When I travel with my dogs, I always take them out for a potty break out back. The outlets are nearby, across the street practically and now there are also places to eat outside in the immediate area too. There's a Black Bear Diner, Pieology, The Habit or Smashburger (I can't remember which) and a handful of others too. Plenty of choices for food if you are hungry. Would I come here again? YES!
