April an Oahn (sp?) themselves bring a calming presence to the space as well. My mother loves the fact that they TAKE THEIR TIME and give their clients their undivided attention by ensuring to service clients by appointment only. We also very much enjoy Oahn's pedicure massages! My favorite thing is the fact that I can show April a picture of any design and she can duplicate it to a T (see what I did there, ha!). I cannot say enough good things about T-Nails. I've been coming here regularly for the past 6 months. I always get the dip manicure. My go-to guy is Nick. He's personable, friendly, professional, engaging and talented. His hand and forearm massages are incredible!! He always has my best interest at heart, and makes recommendations, too. Daughter bought me a Groupon of a pedicure and manicure, when I called to make reservation was told there is an additional $8 tax to be collected when you come in. 4 stars but based on a price/service quality balance. There is another nail place in Bloomington I prefer but they are always busy and I'm a terrible planner so I've started going here instead. T Nails is priced $5-10 below other salons I've been too. I'm also not very high maintenance and I dont believe in Groupons. (I had a friend who was a small business owner that tried it and groupon is not very small business friendly. ) I dont care to be particularly chatty during my service, I actually hate small talk, so for me I just want to have someone who does a good job, is polite enough and works at decent price. To that end, T Nails works for me. I have been there twice now, both times as a walkin on a weeknight. They always fit me in right away because they're not that busy. One time they were all with another customer so nobody looked up to me to say hello right that second but they said hello within a minute or so. If you're someone that likes to have the red carpet rolled out for them the instant you walk in- this is not the place. If you understand that many small businesses cant afford a dedicated receptionist, you'll be fine. They greeted me quickly enough and asked me to take a seat based on the service I needed. Then I picked my color while they finished with the previous customer. I'm indecisive so this style works for me. Somewhere in that waiting period they offered me refreshments (water/pop) so that was a nice touch. The service- they do a good job but are not particularly detail oriented. One time I noticed she had filed one of my nails a little diagonalish but she asked me along the way what I thought so I just asked and she fixed it. So if you halfway pay attention and speak up it shouldn't be an issue. Last time I got a design which consisted of them "tattooing" a snowflake onto one nail on each hand. She struggled hard to get it on there and it's still a bit wonky. So nail art is not really their thing- I'll skip that from now on. Both times I've been she has been on the phone the whole time (headphones) but she asked if it was ok at the beginning of the service so no big deal for me. However if you expect your service people to also be your therapist- move along. One thing that I appreciated was that they are not particularly pushy about upselling you. So many other salons try to push you an upsell 10 times over the course of the service- i find it stressful. So the lack of that here is a welcome change. The only upsell Ive gotten was as the end when I was paying when she thanked me for my business and invited me back. "Maybe you get pedicure next time too". But dont wear name tags so I don't know who to ask for next time. I get acrylics with gel polish. For that they are about $10 cheaper than I am used to. Since that $10 adds up over time, I think that this place is totally reasonable and it makes it more likely that I will actually maintain my nails. So I will continue to go here as long as that's all I want. But if I want a design or something fancier for a special occasion I will go somewhere else. To me- they get 4 stars because I can walkin whenever and get service. And I walk out with pretty nails at a more reasonable price than other places. I wish I liked this place better since it's a five minute walk from my home. Each time I've been there (today was my third visit) I've been disappointed. Also, the reason mani/pedis cost what they cost is about the extra grooming and experience. If I'm advertised/promised a leg massage, I expect more than just moving lotion around for 2 minutes. My nail technician today too seemed to find a lot to do in between my service. Cleaning, checking her phone, situating her headphones. My appointment didn't take an hour and a half because of any 'add-Ons' to my appointment today. Just a quick note: the salon is next to a pet hospital so if you hear a dog barking, that's why. I am sad and disappointed with what I was told today at T Nails. My daughter and I have been faithful customers for years, and despite the fact that I frequently have to sit and wait for an extended period of time beyond my scheduled appointment time, I have been polite and still remained loyal. I was told that the particular brand of polish I chose "just does that". Again I overlooked it and kept going in. I had a gel manicure done on 9/25. I was very pleased with it. However, on 10/9, both of my pointer fingers lost their entire covering of polish. It just popped off In one big piece! We had family for dinner and then I got bronchitis, so I was unable to go in right away to have my nails fixed. Finally feeling better I called T Nails today and explained. I was told to come at noon for a repair. However, when I arrived I got a different story. I was told that "it all depends on what you do, how long your nails last" and it was probably time for me to have them redone! After 2 weeks?! They are barely starting to grow out! And I did nothing extreme to cause this to happen! I have ALWAYS tipper slightly over 20%, and am always kind and respectful, even despite the other issues described above! I bought a Groupon to use here and was given such a hard time by one of the technicians. She said we couldn't use them since we were part of a wedding group and that she had contacted Groupon to remove the offer. Vouchers already paid for should still be honored, so I was confused by what she meant. She also lied and said we couldn't use them because since we were a large group, they had to turn away walk-ins who would be paying full price. I sat in the parking lot for 10 minutes before they opened waiting for my friends and not a single person came before us. She ended up allowing us to use the voucher, but I will not be returning. My friend (the bride) got acrylics, and her technician laid the polish without removing all the specks of powder, so she looks like she has bubbles in her nails. Went to get an acrylic fill in and manicure. When my technician asked if I wanted them shorter I said a little but you can just file them down. Instead he took out his tool and, without care, shortened my nails. He did not file them at all which left them jagged and misshaped. He then asked me which color I wanted. I asked if he could file my nails he said no he would charge extra. I explained why that seemed silly since he just chose to shorten them that way and I've never had any nails left like this after a manicure and he told me I should go somewhere else then. But, I had a Groupon and had read positive reviews and figured the work must be better then the horrible condition of the shop. Looking at the pictures on here I thought I knew what to expect. I was scheduled for a mani/pedi and was placed in the most raggedy massage chairs I have ever seen, very old and just horrible. They do have two newer burgundy pedicure chairs in the front but wasn't placed in those. She did offer me a water but I declined and she laughed and said "why not it's free?!" Yeah, no thanks. The paint job on my toes was the worst I have ever received. And did not remove all of the cuticle either. The gel manicure I received was just as awful. The UV light was very painful, burned my fingernails every time. And the gel was placed beyond the nail on my finger and is already lifting. Bought a groupon for a manicure and called to make appointment. Was told by the lady that it would be better to come in and pay cash because they only get 50% of the groupon value. I told her I had already paid for the service through groupon and asked if she was refusing to serve me because of it. She copped an attitude with me and said yes, they refuse. 5 minutes later they have the audacity to send me a text for specials coming up. I responded to the text asking why they are sending me specials when they refused to serve me. Response: Those are for our regular customers. You can use the groupon if you're a new customer. My husband bought me a Groupon for my birthday last August to go to Tnails...I'd just has a baby a month earlier, had 2yr old twins and just could not find the time to go use it, then I forgot. My husband reminded me a few weeks ago, then we realized it had expired to I called they said they'd honor it. Went in today and the lady who sits in the front and referred to herself as the manager immediately made me feel like I was stealing or lying that I had a Groupon, i showed her the voucher, but she wanted the receipt my husband received when he made the purchase. He paid for a hot stone pedi, and gel mani, the lady screwed up my manicure and when I asked her to remove it, the manager told me that she did not see anything wrong with my manicure, and that I needed to pay to have it removed and I'd have to pay before it was removed. Then she threatened to call the cops. And only didn't after a Caucasian lady told her there was no need for the cops all I'm asking is for the job that was poorly done, that is did not like to be removed.
