I will say that "TJ Maxx" has been one of my major go-to stores for new, discounted merchandise. Since they are a subsidiary of Marshalls (which focuses on more discounted products) and HomeGoods (which is primarily non-clothing/apparel), all of their stores are unique in their own way. Located directly on Madison Ave and adjacent to Hazel Ave at the Madison Marketplace shopping center in Fair Oaks, this TJ Maxx store has been in operation dating back to around 2008-09. It neighbors many major retailers such as Raley's, Dollar Tree, Jamba Juice, Chipotle, and much more. On any given day, the parking lot can fill up quickly but in the few dozen times I have shopped here, I have not had any issues. As for the hours of operation, they are open 7 days a week from 9:30am-9:30pm. Upon entry, you will notice how open, well-lit, and spacious the interior layout is. The registers and checkout are to the immediate left while the fitting rooms are in the middle right hand side of the store. And if you need to use the restroom, they offer both a men's and women's restrooms towards the rear part of the store. As for the merchandise itself, TJ Maxx specializes in a variety of men's, women's, children's, and baby apparel as well as shoes, socks, hats, and loungeware. Additionally, their selection of beauty products, handbags, jewelry, accessories, and luggage is quite impressive. Finally, they carry a decent amount of home products that include candles, towels, sheets, comforters, bath, kitchen, furniture, outdoor items, and even a very sizable amount of food products. I have found TJ Maxx to be the hybrid store as they have much of what Marshalls offers (at slightly higher prices) as well as HomeGoods (at slightly lower prices). To sum things up, the Fair Oaks "TJ Maxx" is one of their better locations in the greater Sacramento area. I've purchased a ton of name brand apparel over the years. This includes major labels such as Calvin Klein, Tommy Bahama, Adidas, Polo, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, and much more. And considering you're paying much less than you would be at say a Macy's or Nordstrom, your money can go much further. When you factor in the above average customer service, reasonable prices, well-stocked merchandise, and a decent shopping experience, I am giving them a respectable four-star rating. read more

Very unpleasant experience of returning an item. Rude and 0 customer skill handler they have at the front. The women either is supervisor or handing the return stuff. Instead of acknowledging and making me feel welcomed she made me feel horrible to return the plant. On top of that she made mean faces just because I was returning the item. Like woman, don't work at the place where you can not handle someone returning the stuff for XYZ reasons. Kudos to the cashier who's name start with V (May be Vivid), he was super friendly, kind, and made me feel not to walk out in anger from the store. Different way of handling the situation makes huge difference in a customer's experience. This is a great TJ Maxx location. It's much cleaner and more organized than other similar stores like Ross, Burlington Coat Factory, etc. I stopped in earlier this afternoon, and was very pleasantly surprised with the jewelry selection. I have been looking around for Betsey Johnson jewelry for weeks, and felt like I hit the jackpot here. It's kind of funny to me that the only negative review I see for this location is for the jewelry section. I thought it was fantastic. Definitely better than any of the many other stores that I've recently been to. While I haven't been able to find more than one or two pieces anywhere else, they had a whole display case full of Betsey jewelry. They also had a good selection of some of my other favorite brands of accessories, such as Natasha, BaubleBar, etc. All of the hygiene items such as perfume, shampoo, conditioner, soap, makeup, etc., were all very well organized. It was easy to quickly look through everything. On my way out, I noticed a super cute dress, and then another, and then another. I couldn't justify trying any on, since I recently bought a bunch of clothes, but thought they had a really cute selection, with very decent prices. Love this location, friendly staff and their is no limit to how many items you can put into your dressing room. For a girl like me that varies in sizes due to my body type, this is very helpful! Also not to mention the prices compared to other stores for the quality your getting is outstanding! Came in to use the rest of a gift card I had, plus spent maybe a little extra lol couldn't help it, everything was just so cute and on sale! Found some great items today, a cute summery romper, a spaghetti strap shirt and a gorgeous dress to wear on a night out! I would definitely recommend shopping here at this location, they have things for the home, snacks, gift ideas, toys, bags, clothing and so much more! It's a nice store with good products, however, I overheard one of the ladies doing markdowns clothing constantly and when I looked over saw that she was coughing into her hands and those hands were touching, as you know, everything in the store. This would not be a big problem but I found out that this person was at work with COVID. That's right. Coughing on and touching everything. She should be at home isolating and getting better. While the Natomas TJ Maxx location is my number one, favorite TJ Maxx in the Sac area, this location isn't thaaaaaat bad. The only issue I have with this location is the parking sucks, and at night it's slightly sketch. This parking lot is one of those lots where, it's best to park closer to the door area, rather than getting those extra steps, ya feel? In the handful of times I have visited the customer service has been on point, even the people working the fitting rooms, believe it! They have a pretty big selection on winter sweaters and jackets, at the moment. Also, the purse and accessories section is actually organized and has a ton of Michael Kors items, half the price of already marked down items compared to the outlet - that's a plus! I accompanied my wife earlier as we had to pick up a few gifts for family members. While I haaaaaate shopping, I love my wife and that's why I came in with her. I wish they had chairs for the husband's to sit on like in Macy's, but they don't. That would be one request that I would have for this store. Clearly this store is more catered to women. If you stand at the entrance and glance at the percentage of things, women have way more. LOL. The purses and bags section, huge. The women's show section? Huge. The entire center of the store which houses, the Juniors, Women's section? Huge. They have a nice selection of jackets, long sleeves and workout pants for women. One could get in trouble shopping here! This was my first time shopping at TJ Maxx (I know...where have I been). My kids needed backpacks, theirs were falling apart. They were shopping with me last Saturday, so I've decided to stop by here. They have been bugging me for new backpacks for months now, so...I caved in. I figured I'll give this place a try since I was in the area. The store was nicely kept and organized. You could tell where to find things. My daughter found a backpack she liked and I was quite happy about the price! My son also found one he liked. At $20 each, not bad!!! There were some home decor items that caught my attention, but it'll have to wait until the house is done being renovated. The whole situation with this location is very sad. I truly enjoy the amount of quality products and how things are neatly placed. However, I shop here regularly and I've noticed a bad pattern from the employees. I am followed around the store for no reason, and it's obvious and totally annoying. I was trying to brush it under the rug, but today was the final straw. An employee followed me and stood behind me in line. Why? I present myself well, I look like every other customer in the store except I'm black. A person of color, I hate to assume that is the reason for the treatment I get from this store, but there have been too many experiences. My shopping experience will be very pleasant if I am not made to feel like I'm being watched or some kind of unwanted guest. Now I have a choice on where I spend my money and I'm choosing not to shop this location anymore. I'm writing this review in hopes that someone from upper management will see and can make a difference for the other customers who shop there and happen to be a person of color. When I was shopping there this morning I overheard one of the cashiers being very pushy to a customer about her opening a TJ Maxx charge card, the customer said "No," and the cashier kept being pushy. Then it happened to me when I was checking out, what part of "NO," dont you understand? This TJ Maxx has gone through a facelift recently! The checkout area in particular is much better and their costume jewelry area is well-organized with someone behind the counter most of the times. Sure beats having to flag someone down and to have them show you something in the case. You can tell that the same company owns Marshalls & TJ Maxx as they tend to have the same merchandise. I come here not really "needing" anything then walk away with something that I just "had" to buy. Terrible habit of mine. I used to love coming to this store and finding whatever little treasures they have. Employees were always polite and quick at the register. When I went in today they had several big tables of "super" clearance items and I found some great items. I got to the register and the lady started grilling me about price tags. This is by far my favorite TJ Maxx location. I used to live very close by before moving to Southern California and I shopped at this TJ biweekly. Great selection on clothes, home decor and most of all jewelry! This place is my one stop shop for Christmas gifts. I always find unique pieces of jewelry here and have gotten countless compliments on the necklace I recently purchased (and will post a picture below) Their staff is friendly and helpful. I have happened upon a jewelry clerk, Marina a few times and she has helped me pick out shiny gifts for my mom and sisters that were a great success! This is my absolute favorite Tjmaxx in the Sacramento area. Very good selection and organization of the overall store. I love how much good quality cosmetic and hair/skin care products they have. I also never shop for jewelry anywhere else but here! They have so many choices of REAL gold. Earrings and necklaces. And the woman working in the jewelry department (Marina) is so helpful and is very good at helping me style what jewelry looks best on me. Discount stores scare me and frustrate me. You find something you like and its the only one when you need one size up. You find the next size up, miraculously, in lime green, but you can dye it, then some crazy bitch with the look of the devil in her eye yanks it from your hand. You continue looking and finally find something cute in your size only to discover it has some huge unidentifiable stain on the crotch, and you are scarred for life. I remember when this store made me less frightened of the concept of discount sores like Ross and Marshalls. It was more organized, better stocked and felt a step up. Now it is just a sad, empty version of its competitors. Maybe they refuse to take the lime green seconds or the crotch stained merchandise but in the end this just leaves them with a scant selection, never in the next size up. read more

This store is a trouble maker as far as I'm concerned. I walk in to get a top, I walk out with more than I had ever planned. You'd think I would know this by now. It happens every time. The minute I decide to start piling stuff up in the cart to "try it on", I know I'm in trouble. They have so many Roxy items that I just can't have one (it's one of my favorite brands). I used to buy Roxy items from the Swell catalog and since I discovered TJ Maxx has so much of it, Swell and I broke up and TJ and I are exclusive. I also purchased the cutest Roxy bedding. Purchased an attractive bundle of four gray wash cloths and used one to wash my face the other night. In the morning, I noticed that the cloth was discolored. I used a second cloth just to dry my finger tips on and yes, it too became discolored. Returning the towels yesterday, I was immediately referred to the store manager who informed me that used wash cloths could not be returned and she pointed to the overhead sign stating store policy. I pointed out to her that there would be no way of kowing that the wash cloths were subject to discolration until they were wet. She pointed back to the overhead sign and stated that I could not return the used cloths. Furthermore, since the unused ones were part of a used bundle she could not issue me a refund or store credit. She did not offer an apology, she did not suggest that she would remove the remaining wash cloths and matching towels from her stock, she just stood there pointing out her sign like it is okay to sell defective goods because you can return them as long as you do not use them! I sense that I am not the first person to attempt a similar return because the clerk that originally spoke to me saw the wash cloths and immediately told me that the manager would handle my request for a refund. read more

i found a pair of jeans here that are very tight... and the fly is sewn together. it appears that this particular pair of jeans owned neither zipper nor button. very curious indeed. so don't buy pants there, unless you weren't planning on putting them on or taking them off for any reason. that being said, i did see a great deal of beautiful scarves and gloves and other nice warmies. maybe this place would be better for accessorizing than outfitting. or out-not-fitting, as it may be. read more
