Since the change in ownership I no longer bother to go here, either as a seller or a buyer. The new customer service to the buyer is poor and the racks are so over crowded that it is almost impossible to browse. As a seller I have made appointments to bring in clothes that have been cancelled. It is no wonder that they are overstocked because I'm sure they are not selling very much with such poor customer service and the prices are no longer reasonable for used clothing. Under the old ownership only higher quality brands were accepted for resale, but now they seem to want higher prices for poorer quality goods. Dont bother going here. read more

They did have some cute clothes at reasonable prices for the most part. Only problem is the rude women work here. When I walked in one of them did greet me and then said what can we go for you today? Seemed like a weird question you would get when you walk in to a bank or a doctors office, and that was the vibe the whole 15 minutes I was there, like I walked into a bakery and said I was looking for something to wear to a job interview. As of any day except today, I would've said this is a great place to go however, today was a less than acceptable experience. I'm not sure if the employee was new? it was definitely not the so nice and cheerful owner that I'm used to dealing with. I stopped in today for the first time in a year I was not greeted, nor I was never acknowledged in any way I was the only person in the store besides a worker for some period of time she never asked me if she could help me and she never asked me what I was looking for. I'm not even sure if I can rate the Moth Hole under it's new management. I went in to their store at the end of March, with three bags of clothing to sell. I was told at that time that he store was too full of clothes. An employee took my name and number and said I would be called when they needed more merchandise to sell. Well, it's the middle of May and I haven't heard from anyone. Their web site says they are too full of merchandise, again! Either they're not selling their clothes very fast or their "call list" is not being utilized. The old Moth Hole Consignment Boutique, under Lauren and Michelle's management, always accepted my clothing any time I came in and I gratefully received a check every month. Just had a very unfortunate experience with Moth Hole. I will never do business with these people because I was given false information about their policies. Not a good way to operate, everyone is NOT giving the same information. Unfortunately they donated a brand new, never worn shirt because they claimed it was damaged. If it was damaged, they did the damage because when I left the 2 items they were folded and in a clean plastic bag. I would NOT trust these people to be honest with you. I've been here twice. First time, wonderful experience. Got information about consigning and shopped around. They have some good pieces and higher end stuff as well as new stuff. I brought in some expensive items that I hope find a great home. However, the person doing the consignment part was anything but great. Moth hole consignment boutique is just a cute little consignment store that offers a variety of items from casual to dressy. I love the fact that it feels like the upper Eastside in Manhattan, with the home like feel of Sacramento. Friends, this is a consignment store though... This is not the upper Eastside in Manhattan, but it's a store for use clothing. Yes, they have some really cute trendy items, but the price tags are reflective of the original price of these items. Don't get me wrong, I love browsing in the store, but I'm hard-pressed to be able to justify spending department store prices for used items. Not only that, they tend to have pretty basic sizes, so you're out of luck if you are superthin, or a plus size girl. They do have some cute accessories that make worth stopping in fun. There are definitely other places in town if you're looking for those items needed for a holiday costume, a school project, or you're just into cheap thrills, and you want a much better price point. I'm just not a fan of spending money for used items that are marked at department store pricing. read more

My review is based on my first and only visit to this store. I came in as a consignor of designer handbags. A little backstory. A few months ago I called and talked to the owner Lauren on the phone. She could not have been nicer or more respectful. It took me a while to decide if I wanted to sell my bags and I finally decided that I did. When I was ready, I called on the phone to talk to Lauren again and ask if it was a good time to come in and/or if I needed an appointment. I have never consigned before. The manager who answered the phone immediately just told me she was putting me on hold - okay - for a long time. She told me Lauren was not coming in and she told me why. She was abrupt and totally off putting. I decided to come in anyway. The manager was even more unprofessional in person. I was told to fill out some paperwork without any explanation, process, etc. When I was done, she told me she would get back in touch with me in a few days... I wasn't expecting that (I was expecting an inspection/prices/etc) so I had some more questions. Most importantly, I needed a receipt for my very expensive bags. She became defensive and louder and louder with me saying things like well if you don't trust us I don't know what to tell you and people do it every day and that's how we do it, etc.... So I'm thinking I don't even leave a cheap sweater at the cleaners without a receipt.... She did not even know what I brought in because she never looked in the bags I brought the purses in. It's just business, right? For both of our protection I feel like we should have documentation of what was dropped off. I didn't feel comfortable with the whole process. So we had the weirdest conversation I've had in years and I ended up leaving. I don't even understand where it went sideways. She told me she was the manager five different times and also gave me very personal information about her boss. This is my first time even coming in the door. I'm puzzled about the way this was handled. I ended up going to another local consignment store where I was warmly greeted, educated and informed, assisted, and thanked for my business. And given an itemized receipt for my bags with prices and percentages. read more

I've wanted to go in this store for a while now and I got the chance to. The clothing selection is quite nice, expensive, though good quality items are. Overall the store is presented very beautifully, but I'm quite saddened by the overall customer service experience. When we entered we were not greeted at all, not even a single hello. Right off the bat it's incredibly awkward, because you should feel welcomed when you walk into a small boutique like this. There was a worker there who kept to her own and didn't really say a single thing to me and my guest even though we were standing right in front of her, only until she offered to grab our clothes after about 20+ minutes of shopping. Another woman at a desk was busy going through paper work and also didn't acknowledge our presence or the several others who trickled into the store. Overall the store was nicely put together but since the peoples energy there didn't seem to care one bit if we were there or not, I don't think I would return unfortunately. One thing to note that was definitely weird was a man went to use the restroom, as he has walked passed the fitting rooms we were occupying and said "peaky peaky" and laughed, it was strange and uncomfortable to say the least. It has nothing to do with the store employees but definitely something to consider when people stop in to use the restroom, which is next to the fitting rooms with only curtains for doors. What a wonderful find! Sis and I were just cruising down Fair Oaks Blvd., on a Sunday afternoon and wham !! Saw the Moth Hole Consignment Boutique. Store was incredibly put together...so appealing to the eye, let alone the "pocketbook." What really impressed us were the ladies working there. They were so helpful and cheerful. I am a huge lover of consignment stores for many reasons: environmentally friendly, unique one of a kind pieces, fun place for great discounts and shopping is always therapeutic! I also love finding a good deal on brand name and couture items. I've been following Moth Hole on Instagram for a few months now and only recently stopped by today to look at a beautiful balenciaga purse I saw posted on Instagram. Unfortunately, the purse wasn't for me but I was still able to find a Marc by Marc Jacobs purse there (it was even on sale for $139). The sales associate greeted me warmly and invited me to the store. It was very clean, open, spacious and well organized! Lots of dress options (my favorite) for work, play and for special occasions! Their round racks also had blouses, shirts, tops and skirts. You can also find a number of pants/Capri options in the back. There were 2-3 large dressing rooms with spacious room to change and the full length mirrors helped me to see how outfits in its entirety. I was able to walk out with a beautiful pair of True Religion jeans (on sale for $34) and a work dress ($18)! I was very pleased! Their shoe assortment was also wide ranging (flats, heels, sandals and more)! I had very limited shopping time but I can't wait to come back and see what else there is for me. Brands I recognized and saw throughout the store included Ann Taylor, Loft, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Tory Burch, Marc By Marc Jacobs, LV, Chanel, Gucci, Forever21, MK, Joe Jeans, True Religion, Maggy London, INC, Coach and Prada. Took great name brand clothes in still new with tags and 6 pieces originally cost $450. Some (?) sold finally and total I got was $19. And took forever to get check. I wish there was a way to get your clothes back if they don't sell, but that isn't allowed. Have learned it's better if I sell myself on ebay or posh. I called to find out if I can bring clothes to consign, the lady who answered the phone was eager to tell me that there is a procedure before i bother coming in, without asking me if I was bringing designer labels, she proceeded to cut me off when i was talking to warn me that whatever it is that I bring they could not look at it while I am present( even if I made an appointment) they would only look at it the next day( without me present) and decide what to keep and what not to keep which they will donate to a charity. I have used consignment shops in much more sophisticated cities like Paris Los Angeles and Miami, all have the same process: they look at your goods and what they sort out not to be of their liking you can take back. This is highway robbery as far as I am concerned because I do not know if they are keeping for their staff or family or friends even though they will give you a ticket for your donation; well I prefer to donate to my chosen charities or to people I know who are in real need of clothes. No thank you, you cannot own people clothes if you are not going to sell them, you need to return them to their owners unless they decide that you can donate them. read more

Oh what fun! I have been following Moth Hole on Instagram for a while. What the heck took me sooo long to step inside this oh so cute boutique and not just "follow" it? I needed pants, since I recently lost 12 lbs to date. I left with a pair and 3 shirts. The Moth Hole has amazing clothes and amazing customer service. Literally my go-to for specialty clothing, jewelry, shoes, you name it. I always find very special pieces to complement my wardrobe, or entire looks from head to toe. They have the most amazing stylists/shoppers. They do a great job of finding things that are unlike anything you see in your typical department store (not to mention their consignment pieces, which are to die for). The staff is welcoming, inviting, friendly and so knowledgeable about what they have in stock (which is always changing, so it stays fresh even if you come in all the time). The young woman who owns the boutique is genuinely gracious, and I really enjoyed the VIP treatment that she gave to myself and the rest of the attendees. I came in here an hour before closing needing last minute office attire for an interview I had the next morning. This sense of pressure was compounded by the fact that I was shopping alone. So, I had no friends present to help make the situation fun or give me feedback on what worked and what didn't. The two ladies present graciously let me borrow them as sudden "friends" to give me feedback. They were incredibly helpful, encouraging, and honest. They helped turn a stressful event (I was there til closing) into a really delightful experience. The prices aren't necessarily 'cheap' (like Ross, TJ Maxx, etc) but you get AMAZING deals for what you pay (i.e.: a gorgeous Calvin Klein skirt for $17). Moth Hole carries clothing and labels of incredibly high quality (many still with the tags on). For those looking to invest in high quality clothing at a fraction of the cost, this place is for you. I went back in with a friend two days later. One of the girls who had helped me was there, recognized me, and asked me how my interview went. You are always greeted with a warm friendly smile and most times it can be from the owner herself. Not only does she run the business, but you can also spot her taking consignments, manning the register, restocking shelves, etc. Whether you are in your twenties, or your sixties, there is always something that can be found to suit your style. They have amazing designer purses, denim, dresses, shoes, etc. They also have a vast array of jewelry, both simple and elegant to bold and colorful.
