But a dress on a mannequin was too beautiful to pass up and I worked up the courage to ask about it. The saleswomen, Deanna (sp?) and Linda, were so welcoming & friendly. Deanna immediately started collecting her recommendations for me upon learning I was going to Hawaii soon, and put me in the dressing room with a bunch of dresses and bralettes. (She taught me about the bralette that's "worn to be seen", never heard of that before!) They were all thoughtful selections & she got me other sizes etc when I asked. I ended up buying 2 of her selections. They were also just unboxing a new product (the rose / patriotic shirt), and I snagged that as well. I loved the "personal shopper" experience!! Deanna was the best. (Side note: I came in in kinda grungy clothes/ shoes and definitely didn't look like I was about to drop some $ but Deanne treated me like royalty.) Style: majorly boho. Value: pretty great! The black floral dress I tried on & loved didn't have a tag. I figured it'd be over $100, comparing other items I was trying on (none of them were $100, but this dress just looked & felt WAY more expensive)... but it was only about $65. I was really heading to Panache next door but I thought the door on the side was an extension of Panache. I walked in and asked the two ladies if the store was the same as next door and they said no. The owner then texted the owner of Panache and told me he's on his way soon. I was about to walk out but the owner said I could stay while I waited. They were so sweet. I was browsing and saw this green sweater that was way beyond my budget. She offered me 50% off but I still couldn't afford it. LOL! I was taken aback because she just offered it just like that. This shop is a boutique so all pieces are unique and the brands are not commercial like Gucci, Chanel, LV, Lagerfeld, etc. It's items that are equal or superb in quality but not known to regular people, lol. She asked me if I wanted to take off my mask since I was vaccinated but I just opted to keep it. We chatted a bit more about news, politics, medicine, etc, and then I went on my way. The owner was really nice. She didn't shoo me away like some lost sea urchin. She let me stay inside. It was foggy and cold outside so I extra appreciated the kind gesture. Check out her shop. Almost immediately, another staff member sharply asked, "Can I help you?" in a tone that felt more like I was being scolded than helped. She then told me--again in a raised, hostile voice--that I needed to sign in. The entire interaction was abrupt and unsettling. I felt singled out and uncomfortable, like I had done something wrong just by being there. What made it more painful was what happened next. Two other customers walked in and were greeted warmly, calmly, and with genuine friendliness. The difference in treatment was stark. As a Black woman, that contrast didn't feel accidental--it felt like bias, and it honestly hurt. I want to be clear: the young woman who did my threading was kind and did a good job. But the way I was treated before that left me feeling unwelcome and disrespected. I live nearby and try to support local businesses, but I will not spend money in a place where I'm made to feel like I don't belong. No customer should walk into a business and leave feeling the way I did.

After asking nearby businesses if they carried gloves or mittens, they mentioned we might be in luck with this boutique! Thankfully they had hats, scarves and the high-quality brand of gloves I love! I got the last festive color CC Lined Cable Knit Ribbed Gloves in Burgundy for myself and Ribbed Gloves in Clay for my daughter! They definitely kept my hands cozy, bonus they touch-screen and her pair were big on her, but she loved them and they kept her cozy as well during the holiday event we attended! I would recommend this boutique and we'll definitely be returning to this small business to shop until we drop ha ha! The staff member working was really sweet and when my daughter asked what all the doors were for, she said they offered waxing, eyelash extensions and even had a hair salon in the back!
