Stayed here one night with a friend while visiting Chicago. We booked through Airbnb and the process was seamless and easy. The hotel reached out beforehand so communication was good. Check-in took way longer than it should've. Only 2 people at the front desk with like 5 people in line and we waited 15-20 minutes. The room itself though was really nice. Super clean, great layout, separate bathtub and shower, and amazing view of the city and the river. No complaints. Now the fees! This is where it gets annoying. There's a mandatory "urban experience fee" of $30-35 per night that includes a $15 food/beverage credit, $12 dry cleaning credit, 10% off private transportation, and WiFi. You cannot opt out. I called to confirm I could use the credits at their bar and they said yes. I got a drink at the bar for $15, tipped on top $4 and expected to see that reflected at checkout (pay $4 extra). Instead I was charged $56. Had to wait in line again just to get it sorted out, and the front desk was confused at first and we kept going back and forth before finally issuing the credit. It still hadn't posted to my card by the time I left, so fingers crossed that gets resolved. Honestly the fee wouldn't bother me as much if it was actually worth it but the WiFi was laggy enough that I just gave up and used my cellular data, and I can't imagine most guests are regularly using dry cleaning or private car discounts. The $15 food credit is the only perk that feels worth it (even though it wasn't easy go apply). A couple minor things: the toiletries have a really earthy, herbal scent that's just not for me which is a personal preference. The hotel is going for an eco-friendly vibe (wooden key cards, bamboo combs, etc.) which I think is cool, just mentally prepare if you're particular about scents. On the bright side: gym has a gorgeous view, room comes with a mini fridge, AC/heat works great, and the location is super convenient. Overall it's a solid hotel but the fee situation left a bad taste. I'd say try it once, just know what you're walking into and double check your charges at checkout. And maybe bring your own toilestries.

The process for finding a decent hotel can be tasking. You just never know and I think that's one of the scariest things, lol. We decided to stay here based on the reviews, walkability, the proximity to restaurants, parks, stores, and entertainment. The hotel itself is pretty nice and rather big! I think we stayed on the 18th floor and the views were AMAZING! Shoutout + thanks to Bernard for fulfilling our request and for making our check in process seamless. He was quite hilarious and gave us good food recommendations which we appreciated. The hotel room itself was ok but pretty outdated (e.g., the bathroom, furniture, and beds) and could use some upgrades. I did like that there was enough room to move around and not be up under anyone else. I had to request for extra blankets because the sheets were a bit thin/making it cold. They have two restaurants located on the first level, which is nice if you sometimes want to stay in. The gym/fitness center is probably one of the best ones I've seen for a hotel. It was well equipped and clean. I wish I would've taken advantage of it more but there was so much to do, so little time! Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Swissôtel. Chicago is always a vibe and I can't wait to go back!

This hotel is a consistent and reliable place to stay in Chicago. Rooms are spacious and the views of the river and navy pier and unbeatable. Stayed multiple times for conferences and it's a great option by riverwalk.

    $22 and worth it!

I typically stay at Marriott Bonvoy properties, but since my conference this week was hosted at Swissôtel, it made sense to stay on-site. This was my first stay here, and overall, I was pleasantly surprised. Hotel & Room The hotel is 37 years old, and while that age shows in a few design elements, everything was clean, well-maintained, and fully functional. My guest room was spacious and comfortable, more so than many newer hotels that prioritize style over space. The bathroom setup was a tell: a full bathtub (a giveaway of an older property) but with a small glass-enclosed shower tucked behind the door--functional, but not exactly modern luxury. View The highlight of our room on the 21st floor was the stunning view of Lake Michigan, especially at night. Floor-to-ceiling windows gave us a postcard-perfect view--a real selling point for this hotel. Unique Touches One charming surprise was the old-fashioned doorbell, which you ring by turning a key outside the door. A small detail, but it reminded me this hotel has some history. Fitness Center The 34th-floor fitness center was the biggest surprise--absolutely outstanding. It looked brand new, with a wide range of quality equipment and panoramic skyline and lake views. For anyone who values a good workout on the road, this is a major perk. Dining & Amenities * The Palm steakhouse anchors the lobby for lunch and dinner--reliable, classic, and always good. * In the morning, the hotel takes over the space. I ordered an omelette with bacon, potatoes, and toast for $22, and it was huge--good value for a downtown hotel breakfast. * My only real disappointment: no proper coffee shop on-site. Coffee service at the lobby bar exists, but it's nothing special. A hotel of this size should really have a grab-and-go café. Overall Take I wouldn't call Swissôtel a five-star luxury property like the St. Regis up the street, but it delivers on comfort, views, and fitness amenities. If your conference is here or you want a lake-facing view at a more reasonable price, it's a solid choice.

Great location, walking distance from a lot of places, and nice view of the city/river. Checking in and out was a breeze - they do offer food/beverage credits if you don't request room service daily. This hotel is very outdated and could use a facelift, though. The toilet ran for about 15 mins after flushing, the a/c doesn't go down past 65°, and you can definitely hear people moving about. It served its purpose for my few days stay but I doubt I'll return here.

We stayed in Chicago a few weeks ago for the Oasis concert after getting a deal on a website. It was so easy to get around from this hotel, but I do wish it was just a bit closer to the riverwalk. We had a great view of Navy Pier, which we especially enjoyed at night when the ferris wheel was lit up. The hotel lobby bar was nice and the house wines were actually pretty good. My only issue with the room was that the shower door wouldn't stay closed! So after every shower we had to essentially mop up the bathroom floor. We also told the front desk and housekeeping that we didn't need any service, yet they still came in our room and moved things around. Would I stay here again? Maybe, but I'm not itching to return either

I booked Swisshotel for a 1 night staycation and had a very enjoyable experience! Great hotel in a great location right off of the lake. Nice bar scene and they have a good looking restaurant in which I did not get a chance to try. The room itself was really nice and spacious. Had a good view and the bed was really comfy. Room came equipped with a mini fridge which came in handy. The only issue I would call out is that the shower was very small so unless you're really small people, its a hassle to shower together lol! We ordered room service the next day and the breakfast sandwich was really good...ham, eggs, cheese and avocado on a croissant. I would definitely stay here again...really good hotel

Hampton Inn majestic will let you relive the Chicago fire!!!…read more Was not a fan of their elevators since they kept jumping from levels 6 and 7 and would randomly stop without being called. The last Hampton inn I got stuck in the elavator and had an off experience with getting help, so I chose to use the stairs. Upon using the stairs we were met with SEVERAL linen boxes blocking our only exit. They were all in different directions and could not be easily rolled out, especially when we were blocked behind them. Instead we had to parkour over it to escape. There was a valet driver sitting at the front and ignored us after I asked for help and continued to say she's just valet she can't do anything. These bins were there for well over an acceptable time, blocking the only stairs and fire safety exit but also for people that didn't enjoy their sketchy elevators. And again, pallets were there days later also blocking the ONLY emergency exit and stairwell exit. Completely unacceptable in a normal city let alone one with history of building fires. Exits should not be blocked and it's clear the building uses this space for "storage" often. Before the fire situation even happened, their breakfast situation was insane. Our first morning was on a Monday. Their service is until 10 am and around 9am we headed down for some fuel. By that time, the dining room was packed, the tiny buffet room was empty of food but packed with people who were waiting for tables, chairs and all of the food to be restocked. One woman was trying to run the whole operation while two men just stood behind the concierge desk and watched the shit show of breakfast service happen in front of them. Someone should have helped her get breakfast together. Even if it wasn't their job, in hospitality, their job as hotel manger or anyone who works in the hotel is to make sure the guest have a pleasant stay, not to look pretty sitting in front of the Hampton inn welcome to Chicago sign. Overall unorganized and not something nice to look at when you first walk into a hotel lobby, chaos. You would think the grievances would stop there. However we were then denied the benefits that we get as gold Hilton members. Previously at hiltons and Hilton branches we have been offered two bottles of water per room per day. Most of the time they would be offered upon check in (which they did not) and given daily throughout our stay. This time the concierge allowed my mom just to go grab them out of the fridge. The next day we did the same and the concierge Robyn gave me immediate backlash even after I said we were previously allowed to take them. She repeatedly said I was wrong and gave no hospitality to hear my side of the story. I didn't want to cause a scene and returned my water. She then slammed them onto our table as I was eating breakfast with my family. Definitely could have been better ways for her to deal with the problem and I did not appreciate the hostility coming from the concierge at 9 am. We were already all crammed at a small table because there are no seating arrangements easily accessible for families or even enough seats in the dining room. One star because housekeeping did great and my room was clean and refreshed when necessary (and because zero is not an option) Otherwise I would hope I never have to stay here again.

The staff were somewhat friendly until different things started to come up... 1st issue: Friday night the elevators completely stopped working. Big problem due to having a small infant and needing to get the stroller down. We were staying on the 10th floor. But an even bigger problem was that we started to notice floods of people come on our floor and notify us that there was not an exit even via the stairs!!!! My husband got on the phone with the front desk and the reply was "you are just going to have to wait for the elevator." This was completely unacceptable and UNSAFE- what if there was a fire? What if something dangerous was happening and we couldn't get out of the building? This itself would have landed this hotel at a 1-2 rating. The elevator issue didn't fill resolve itself for our whole stay- only 2/3 were in service and they took 5-10 minutes to show up each time. Seriously inconvenient. 2nd issue: they put one of our rooms (we had 3 groups) literally next to the pool. Kids were screaming their heads off beginning at 6:30am and it would carry on until 10pm. When SIL called down to the front desk she was told "sorry that's just how it is and it should quiet down soon." Again, completely unacceptable. We had young children and infants who needed to nap and go to bed early. 3rd issue: we asked for a late check out since our flight was later and we needed to get our baby to take a nap- after all of these issues they said they would extend it to 1:00, which was nice. We did then ask if it could be extended another hour and we were told it would cost $25. Fine... what was not fine was when there was banging on our door and someone walked in at 1:25pm to clean the room. It woke up our baby and completely defeated the purpose of us extending our late check out and paying the extra $25. 4th issue: apparently they don't clean the rooms unless you are staying for 3 or more nights? We didn't know about this and assumed we would get new towels since there is a sign in the bathroom saying "hang towels to reuse" or "if you would like new ones, place them on the floor". We needed new towels so we followed what it said and then were told our rooms wouldn't be cleaned or even checked to see if we needed new towels. Good things I will say: - very convenient area - provided a pack n play - Starbucks in the hotel - hotel room was clean Would have love for this stay to have been better since the Marriott is well known and usually a great place to stay.... but the lack of customer service makes it hard to want to book another room at a Marriott hotel.

So the JW seemed affordable within the mix...at $700+ a night... I've stayed at a few JWs across Asia and the US. For whatever reason this one didn't seem to meet JW's normally high standard. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think it started with the lobby and bar. It was always overcrowded and noisy, and just didn't feel very intimate or elegant. That followed with the fact there's only one restaurant in the hotel and both times we visited it was nearly empty. It's tucked on the second floor back in the corner, and just feels like a standard obligatory hotel restaurant. The food was good but the ambience was just odd. The room was well-appointed, including a comfortable bed and soft sheets. And the bathroom had everything we needed. But the service day-to-day required follow up. They forgot to restock coffee, water and cups a few times, and when I called the front desk they delivered in a trash bag. There is a daily service charge that I believe is $50 a night and provides Wi-Fi, access to gym, and a free class. We went to use the gym to access the sauna and steam room, but learned that's part of the spa not gym so had to pay a separate per person charge. The spa was refreshing but fairly standard. Not like the Seoul Marriott with multiple heated baths and a cold plunge. Call me spoiled. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is very nice but for $700 a night and knowing what I know about most JW's this just seems slightly below their standard. I wouldn't pay that much again, but would come back for a more affordable rate.
