I've been going here for years but never knew the English name was Sweet Temptations. I always eat at the Canton restaurant next door then swing over for dessert. So my review today will be about my favorite desserts, the others I've tried and the recommended dessert based on customers in the lobby. My favorite is Che Banh Lot (green pandan noodle jelly) the Jellies have to be soft, fresh of pandan aroma, and the coconut can't be overly sweet. I've had other places where it leaves a gritty after taste or is simply too hard and breaks vs being chewy. Ofcourse the trick to this is ordering with ice on the side, or ice on top only if you're going to eat immediately because once it gets cold, it hardens. However I have not experienced that hardness here. I also add mung bean in my dessert and this needs to be silky in texture when eaten and still have a paste texture. I personally dislike having grit in my mung bean that tasted like dried curd or raw beans that some places may have when it's not cooked long enough, or they use low quality beans that are stale or too dried taking longer to get the texture. So they pass on these two aspects. The second popular dessert is Che Thai (Thai style desserts with all the fruit and jelly mix) this location used more condensed milk to sweeten it. So far from individual ingredient perspective, I would rate it on a higher quality. For example you can buy 3 different kinds of jack fruit cans from the market and a fresh jackfruit. The fresh jackfruit will always taste better, but there is a brand of can jackfruit that will be closest to a fresh one in quality. While some other brands make their canned fruits very stale and mushy. So the can and brand choice they use for this desserts is better in quality than other places. I am also assuming their steep price of $5 per dessert takes this quality into account. Today while I was here, a lady recommended the banana sticky rice and mung bean sticky rice wrap. According to her, they are made fresh with quality sticky rice from scratch. This I have no tried, but considering her detailed description, it is worth mentioning. Finally I ask the owner for the specialty of the savory dishes they had posted. According to the owner, the beef Kho does not have MSG in it and the stew is brewed the night before to ensure all the seasoning, aroma, and flavors seep into the beef when served the next day. I personally have not tried this, but I assume their recipe may be good enough to include it in their menu. Imagine a late night hot bowl of stew with a baguette to satisfy your nightly cravings or simply after some drinking, this could be very warm for your tummy for breakfast. Another important note to make is that the place is clean, has a lot of choices, the owner seems quite nice and willing to assist food photos without any grief.

The chicken was crispy and the dipping sauce gave it that extra yummy goodness. The dish also came with a side of broth that had chicken bits in it, was nice to help digest your dish. I also loved that they gave you pickled veggies & fresh veggies. We also ordered the Loi's Fusion Saltado, upgraded the rice to garlic egg fried rice. The beef was soft and tender, the fries were nice and crispy and the fried rice was fresh. You 100% need to get the Thai Tea. A lot of place add too much cream/half and half diluting the tea flavor, they do not skimp on the actual tea in their drink. The color speaks for itself on the dark orange hue!

It also came with their dipping sauce, red rice and a fried egg. They also give you a side of broth. I was not a fan of their rice. Not sure if it was just that night or if it's how their rice is always cooked, but the rice was on the drier side so I had pour soup on my rice or else it was too dry. Service was okay. I would give them another try. Maybe for their noodle soup dishes.

The grilled pork spring rolls had the crispy pieces inside which raised the texture experience of spring rolls giving every bite a crunch. While the asparagus and beef spring roll had a different crunch from the asparagus. Definitely one of the best spring rolls I have had and will be back for these spring rolls! - Brodard vermicelli was delicious and had good variety of protein - shrimp, grilled chicken, grilled pork, and crispy egg rolls. - Picked up a mango dessert when picking up food and it was pricey (~$14) but it was amazing - layers of mango mousse with a layer of mango cubes.

The beautiful presentation of each dish and impeccable service made up for the smaller portion sizes.

The pork patties were my favorite, and although there were plenty of the grilled pork, many of them were pieces with a lot of fat. That was my only gripe about it. Now about the hu tieu, which came with all the delicious bbq pork, shrimp, shredded chicken, fried garlic and onions, lightly dressed in an oh so delicious sauce. For me, the sauce was actually the star. Mix everything together and get yourself one delicious bite, filled with so much flavor. The accompanying broth on the side was great as well, with hints of dried shrimp reminiscent of a really good HK wonton noodle soup broth. Highly recommend this place!!

It's pretty much a hole in the wall type of place with some large TV's on the walls if you wanted to watch sporting events like the World Cup. We got banh mi pate que which comes with 2 piece that are breadstick sized filled with pate and pork floss. A great appetizer for sharing or having some coffee with. It comes served piping HOT so be careful! We also had the bun cha ha noi which is a very traditional Northern Vietnamese Nanoi dish. It has grilled pork patties and pork belly in a sweet savory fish sauce served with fresh herbs and cold rice vermicelli. You pretty much eat it by wrapping it with the lettuce or dip your noodles into the sauce. Very authentic and delicious without being overly heavy. There isn't much service here since they seem to be super short staffed but they do have delicious authentic Northern Vietnamese food so we absolutely will be back again!
