    mango, pomelo & sago soup
    Jason M.

My gf's sister (and her bf) discovered this place. Her sister wouldn't disclose where she got the desserts but told us that it was a place that opened at 7pm. After a bit of googling, we found this place and the pics looked EERILY familiar. So we drove here on a whim and ordered the mango, pomelo & sago soup. It's probably one of the tastiest ones I've had. Big chunks of mango and pomelo running throughout and one order/portion is quite big. There's zero seating inside and the kitchen is like 100% hidden from the front desk so it's takeout only. They provide paper menus for you to look at out front and a bell to ring when you're ready to order. Deciding whether or not I wanna try something else on a return visit or stick to the mango, pomelo & sago soup!

Chinese dessert | Family run | Opens till midnight | 10% tip included | Seats about 30 | Free WiFi | Cash & Debit Many Chinese hot and cold dessert options. Decent flavour. Also have a few savoury dishes like BBQ pork instant noodles. Limited seating but opens late. One unisex bathroom. Service was a bit slow. Hostess was a little girl and server is an older girl. * The bill already has 10% tip tacked on.

Sweet House Desserts - Perfect for a late-night dessert when you want something sweet but not heavy. Location: 7750 Birchmount Rd #6, Markham, ON L6G 1C4 Item(s) Ordered: 111 Matcha Ice Cream with Mango, Mochi, Coconut, Jelly, and Red Bean Price: $9.99 CAD Rating: 10/10 Love that the mochi was still warm yet the ice cream didn't completely melt during the 10 minute car ride after picking it up. 36 Mango Sago with Coconut Jelly Price: $8.99 CAD Rating: 9/10 Pretty standard mango sago. It was delicious but overpriced for what it is, although you get nice big chunks of mango which is nice. I found the coconut jelly to be perfumy but others seem to enjoy it so YMMV. 98 Grass Jelly with Mango, Pomelo, and Sago Price: $8.99 CAD Rating: 10/10 Same comment above. It's standard mango sago but with grass jelly. The jelly was firm but also smooth which was nice. Overall, I'm grateful for the oddly late hours of operation at Sweet House Desserts. While other businesses are closed, I can still get my dose of Hong Kong desserts. Their menu seems long but they're just variations of the same base so you can't go wrong with any option. As summer comes to an end, I'm looking forward to trying some of their hotter menu items.

Randomly found this place. Went with a friend. I really liked how small and quaint the place was. It holds no more than 15 people at once, but it's cheap and quick. I got a mango pancake type thing (stuffed with whipped cream). It was yummy. The thing in the picture was my friends mango bowl thing. They do jelly desserts well. I remember seeing some drink options too, but I stuck with the tea since it was such a late night.

The service is a little slow. BUT they have large portions, the popcorn chicken is delish, and the staff are so nice (': Ma Hart Ma Soul. Yea, super nice people. Get their TSAP GOH SAI MAI LO (mixed fruit sago) cbc sorry.

Yummy desserts for 4 people... No I didn't have all 4.

After dinner around Downtown Markham, my friends and I have a craving for something sweet. I recalled there was a "sweet soup" place around, and we decided to come here. Came here around 9ish and the lot isn't too packed. Once we got in, the place is small with about a dozen tables that are all filled with people. Luckily a group was leaving, so we were seated not too long after. We looked up the menu with their many choices. I decided on getting the purple rice with sweet rice ball (with black sesame filling) sweet soup. I am a sucker for the purple rice sweet soup dessert. Wherever I go, that's my go to thing no matter what. My friends also made their choices. Not long after our desserts came out. And of course I dived right in. The sweet soup wasn't too sweet, and the black sesame gluttonous rice balls were just right with texture and flavour (again, not too sweet). Traditionally, sweet soups came out too hot. However the temperature was just right. Kudos to the chef. Overall, I like the dessert. Only drawback/comment I have is... the place is too cramped? But good places like this "mom and pop" store will always be tiny. They don't win me with their decor or how nice the seats are. Rather they win the customers over with their food and service. Will I come back? Yes I will.

Sept 15, 2019 - my friend recommended it, he said that the desserts aren't too sweet (just the way I like it) When we arrived at 12am it was busy, there was only one table available. We ordered Black sesame soup + Tofu pudding (hot) 4/5 2 Mango Pomelo + Sago Sweet Soup (cold) 5/5 Sweet Walnut Soup + 3 Rice balls (hot) 4/5 The desserts really aren't that sweet compared to other places. For the 3 rice balls I got 2 black sesame and 1 peanut. Only one friend said the dessert wasn't sweet enough for him. But I tasted the Black sesame soup + Tofu pudding and it was sweet enough for me.

After a movie at the Markham VIP, my friend and I wanted to have some dessert, so we looked up the closest place and found this little boutique (let me emphasize on little - maybe around 20 seating). The prices are a little on the expensive side (between $5-$10 a dessert). I ordered the black glutinous rice with tofu pudding ($5.69) and my friend ordered the black glutinous rice with coconut milk and rice balls ($6.69), we also ordered a side of curry fish/beef balls ($2.99). Black glutinous rice with tofu pudding: I enjoyed this very much - but, I found that the temperature was kind of off though - tofu pudding was warm and the black glutinous rice was boiling hot. I also felt that the sweetness was just enough for me (not too sweet) - but this may not be sweet enough for others as the tofu pudding relied on the sweetness of the black glutinous rice. Black glutinous rice, coconut milk and rice balls: you get two peanut rice balls and one black sesame rice ball (you don't get to pick). The rice balls seem to be home made! But, for some reason, it came in a smaller bowl than the above one, but it was more expensive.. Curry fish/beef balls: you don't get to pick which ones you want, you just get 3 fish balls and 3 beef balls. Pretty sure these are store bought - would've been pretty unique if they made their own! Overall, they have lots of choices, may come back if I'm around the area. BTW: 10% tips is included in your final bill. This is a family run business, so you will be served by 3 kids!

Love this dessert shop! I'm a huge fan of mango pancakes and this place is the SPOT for them. I'm picky about the mangoes I eat, but this spot always seems to have the best ones! They are currently doing a promo for takeout/pick up orders.

3.5 Star What should I order? I was overwhelmed by all the choices here at Sweet House Dessert! 342 items of ice, pudding, slush and snacks to choose from in a small dessert place that has a capacity around 15 customers. After studying the menu for awhile, we decided on: #78 Matcha Sago wi/Red Bean & Mochi ($5.95) - great texture contrast of all the element. A little taste of bitter from matcha and a little sweetness from red bean. #21 Durian Grass Jelly in Vanilla Sauce ($7.95) - When I saw the girl took out a fresh durian from the fridge, I knew I would like it. That huge ball of durian flesh was the star of the show..... So now 2 down, another 340 item to chose from the next time I am here! Sweet Home Dessert has this sweet homey family vibe. Price point might be a little higher than other places. Yes I did spent $8 plus tax and tip on my durian dessert, but it is OK to splurge once in a while, especially for something I enjoy! BTW, why was my Yelp Friend kept moving further and further away from me?

This place is quite pricey for the snack that they offer. Interestingly, for take out, they add a 25 cents surcharge for each item. Is that even legal as I have not heard of this anywhere else. The menu gas several items increase in prices, but it was not reflected on the take out menu. I don't know, but I sure don't feel very good about this arrangement. For this alone, I would not come back to this place because it was not really advised to me during the ordering process. ))updated after tasting food(( The food ends up being quite good, but incorrect pricing on the menu is totally unacceptable. Even on the take-out menu, the chicken wings was listed as $6.49, and two orders should be $12.98. But instead, I got charge $16.48. Can you do the math as to why? Wouldn't it be just $12.98. I was like, "what is going on here?" I was doubting my math skill for a split second, but it did not sit right with me, so I asked the server again. When I asked the lady to explain, she was not able to explain the pricing at all. She asked someone from the kitchen to come explain the price to me and she said it cost too much to re-print the take-out menu, and she showed me the in-house me for the restaurant which listed chicken wings as $7.99 per order. As a result, two order would be $15.98 plus $0.50 for two containers. When did a restaurant set up a menu that is a math question for the customers? I think most customers would over look this, but she was giving me an attitude the entire time while trying to explain it to me. Sigh~ I did not have the energy to negotiate since I worked almost 12 hours by that time and my shift had not ended at my work place. I just would say I am disappointed with this place. No matter how good the food tasted, I would not be able to come back to this place with the expectation pricing might be incorrect again. All two stars are for the food only since I did not have a good customer service experience. If you want to try out this place, make sure you ask about their current pricing before ordering anything.

A typical Chinese dessert place. The price is good for the portion. My go-to order is #98; mango sago with grass jelly and pomelo. The only down side I have is they don't serve much bubble tea and the hot desserts come in a smaller size.

One of my favorite Chinese desert places. Been coming here since I was a kid. Love their mango and durian pancakes and their mango sago.

The rose tea flavour was sooo good, I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did but it was the perfect mix of floral, sweet, and tea flavoured. I love how nothing tastes artificial. For around $10, it's a pretty solid place to grab some dessert. The only downside is that they have very limited seating here. We got lucky because a table was just leaving as we arrived, so we managed to snag a small table to sit and chat. But it still gets very crammed in there when there's usually a line that runs along the same area as their seating. This spot is best if you're coming to hang with one person, otherwise it's not very accommodating for groups due to the limitations of their space. Even still, you might not score a seat right away especially if you're coming during peak hours.

Visited this cafe and got their shiratama matcha & pistachio swirl parfait. The pistachio & matcha flavours were both very strong and went well together! I loved the red bean layer, and I like how it came with 6 mochi balls (great chewy texture). Would love to come back and try their matcha drinks. The black sesame matcha and red bean layer+ crystal jelly matcha caught my eye! Note that the space is small and there are only a few tables to sit around.
