Dear & Fri is a lovely Korean style dessert cafe, the cafe is lovely and decorative. We tried three favour of Bingsu out of almost 20 different Bingsu! I love all of them, the ice based are so nice and they are shaved with favour milk. It tastes more natural and rich layers. There are some toppings insides the ice like the tapioca, pudding or some soybean mochi. It depends of which favour you have ordered. Staffs are nice and make the order very efficient, it is a wonderful place for desserts!
July 17, 2024 - I haven't been here in so long! It's such a cute little dessert shop. We ordered Mango Bingsu & Injeolmi Bingsu, both were really good. I really liked the red bean on the Injeolmi Bingsu. The service was very good.
Clean up on Aisle 2 please Milk tea flavour shaved iced!! Ice has strong milk tea flavour and topped with whip cream Many unique flavours to choose from Service was quick and easy not much service needed.
Thai milk tea bingsu was okay but was really difficult to eat - it just wants to fall over onto the plate. Everything else was either extremely sweet or bland
Stopped by after munching across the parking lot at Linh Anh. This place serves dessert very similar to Cups. It was packed when we opened the door. Luckily we were getting takeout. None of us ever really ordered bingsu for takeout but we decided to give it a try for the first time cuz "oh what the hell" right"? They have recently introduced a bunch of new bingsu flavours and I was tempted to try the thai milk team bingsu, but ulitmately decided to get a tried and true mango bingsu (too classic). My friends ordered some as well. We were all pleasantly surprised at the presentation from a takeout perspective. They even added a bag of ice into the takeout bag to keep the bingsu nice and cold! As far as taste goes, it was on point. Does it beat Cups? Maybe half a tier below Cups (because of the absolutely massive portion size at Cups; one order at Cups is definitely serving 2+ ppl). I'm definitely coming back to try the thai milk tea bingsu sometime though. Cute spot, very busy.

The mango was lightly drizzled with some mango syrup and the bingsu itself was creamy. The texture was also amazing as the shaved ice was really refined so it made for a great mouth feel when it melted in your mouth. I've also had other flavours such as their blueberry bingsu in the past and it did not disappoint as well. Overall the bingsu itself is a 10/10 but I only give this place a four as I don't like that the only options for payment are cash and debit nor do they offer ATM machine for clients. I'm also not the biggest fan of their seating arrangement. However if I'm looking for a refreshing and light dessert I would definitely come back to this place. TLDR: Cash and debit only place. Limited seating. Good bingsu and great refined texture for the ice.
A really cute spot for desserts and refreshments! We dropped by after dinner this holiday season, and it was completely empty (understandably). We had the place to ourselves! After vaccination and ID checks, we were allowed to sit down and order. We got the Matcha Red Bean and Mango Bingsu. The shaved ice came in really adorable bowls, perfectly rounded mounts topped with the shop logo. Amazing for photos! The ice was light and refreshing, the flavor natural and not too sweet. The cut mango was generous and fresh, although I didn't enjoy the mango ice cream as much, as the flavor was somewhat artificial. The portion size was adequate, and little styrofoam bowls were available for sharing. A nice spot for hangout, particular for summer!
Order: Mango Binsu Price: 10.95 + tax Portion: decent-sized They are taking great precautions due to covid. Only letting one group in the store at a time and making others wait outside. They took down phone numbers to call when the order was ready so definitely efficient. The staff were very kind and gave us ice to keep the bingsu's cool when they heard we were planning on having a picnic. Genuinely caring and helpful staff. My only issue was that the bingsu was too overpriced for the taste. It was quite simple and basic. I've definitely had better. It really just tasted like milk and mangoes. I prefer mine with the cereal bits and they didn't have that. Overall, decent place but comes down to personal preference.
Aesthetic & cozy place for Korean bingsu! My Korean best friend recommended this place for our hangout. We went around 4PM and it was pretty empty-which was perfect for us since we wanted to catch up & talk & could choose our seats anywhere. The interior is decorated adorably & aesthetically! The most picturesque place imo would be in the back where the plant wall is w/ a neon sign that says treat yo self Between the 3 of us we ordered 2 of their most recommended bingsu's; the early grey & the injeolmi which is like mochi covered in soy bean powder. The texture of the bingsu is my fav!! It's like snow and melts on your tongue. I would say that the injeolmi was a little too frozen vs. the early grey which had the perfect texture. I also preferred the early grey more because of the slightly salted cheese topping which was creamy and worked great with the earl grey. The boba was also super Q which was good Overall I would def come back w/ friends. As we were leaving it started to get more crowded. It's a cozy place so I can see it filling up quickly
I was delighted that I was finally visiting after seeing so many great photos online. When entering there's seating along either wall with the seating on the right on a platform with a fake tree to add ambiance. The seating on the left is broken up by a self serve water station and the section at the end is at a hightop table. You order and pay at the counter and take a buzzer back with you. Once it starts buzzing take it back to the counter to collect your order. The armchair type seating at the front of the restaurant could use a cleaning. There's plenty of stains all over the seat covers and I noticed that the tv playing a videos of the offerings was quite dusty. My friend was hankering for sustenance and not just dessert. She got the Korean style army mini hotpot and says that it was good but spicy! The daily bingsu specials are 50% off and Sunday was matcha. It was amazing to share for that price. There was a strong matcha flavour in the ice cream and the shaved ice. It was disappointing though that there wasn't anything layered in the shaved ice. At other restaurants there's sweetened condensed milk and maybe some nuts or red bean. Nonetheless we enjoyed the food and will be back to try other items.
Came here with a friend a few nights ago. Was craving bingsu, specifically injeolmi. I usually go to CUPS, but we were close by to Dear and Fro. Amazing tastes, got the injeolmi of course! lol It came with Red bean paste which elevated the overall taste of the dessert. My friend got the strawberry and it was super refreshing and sweet. Overall impression Distribution of bingsu ingredients: 8/10 they did two laying of condense milk with the soy bean powder and red bean paste/mochi (perfect softness) on top. So the the top is heavy and when you did your spoon towards the bottom there is another layer of condense milk. I'm happy to see that cause some places just pour the ingredients at the top and by the time you hit the bottom you are just eating ice. This is not the case Snow texture: 7/10 a little bit on the ice side... similiar to packing snow after it rains lol. I prefer the light snow texture that CUP serves up. lol just a preference. Would come by for other items on menu. They have vietnamese thai bingsu, earl grey bingsu, milk tea bingsu and other awesome flavours to choose from.
The two women working here were friendly and worked very quickly and efficiently. The bingsu was delicious! Not too sweet, and the matcha was so flavorful. The location has a good amount of seating and there are a couple good spots for photos, if you like taking food photos!
Honestly, I usually try to avoid this plaza at night because we all know how crazy the parking gets. And when it's like -20 outside, I don't wanna be parking in the plaza behind and walking over. BUT... for my cousin visiting from out of town, I'll suck it up this time. It was p worth it. haha. We ordered the mango bingsu and despite it being freezing cold outside, it was yummy! The shaved ice is flavoured so you're not just eating chunks of ice cube... it's actually quite creamy. They're also really generous with the fresh mango (refer to Figure 2). We also got the seasme + nuts toast thing. Holy crap, it's good BUT it's also an entire loaf of bread. Hope you're hungry LOL. It's just warm enough that the ice cream melts a bit and seeps into the crispy toast bites. The candied nuts complement it very well too. Drinks (like bubble tea) were nothing outstanding. Stick with the jugs of water they have on the side. More of a self-serve fast food place... Order at the counter and once your buzzer rings, you go up to the front to pick up your order. This place gets pretty busy at night so finding a parking spot and a free table in itself is a struggle. A dessert in which it is a meal itself. How on earth do people eat this after dinner?! I will totally return again, but it will have to be on a half-empty stomach.
We have heard of Korean desert Bingsu for a while, but no time to try. Tonight we had dinner outside and want some sweet afterwards. I searched around, this store was nice and more comments. So we decided to come here. Midland is a well known location that not hard to find. There was 1 more hours to be closed, when we walked in. But the casher was not rush me. She just let us know we could scan the QR code for the menu on the table, and come up to the counter to order, when we are ready. We were debating which one to get, Golden Mango or Matcha Mango Bingsu. The cashier said Golden Mango is giving different texture, even though it's all mango flavor; the Matcha Mango is using matcha shaved ice as base, then top with Mango fresh fruit. So we final decision was the Golden Mango Bingsu. Once we ordered, we got a electric alert board. We won't wait long, the alert board was beeping when our order was ready. I went back to the counter to get my Bingsu. This desert is not big that costs $12.55+tax. Sago has no taste. Fresh mango is on the top, mango base is mango flavored shaded ice, which is like ice cream that smooth. Mango sauce as layer is in the middle of the base, which makes stronger taste. Overall, it's pretty tasty and fresh. That's another type of ice cream for me. The store was open until late night, and I was seeing couples coming in. That reminded me long time ago when we were young. Enjoy the desert and also enjoy the late night life. read more
Recently came after a light dinner to round out the night with something sweet. A very popular spot, so the seats are almost always full in the weekend evenings especially in summer. The menu is extensive, with many drinks, sweets and even savory options. We got the mango bingsu, green tea red bean bingsu, the milk tea bingsu and the pomelo and mango coco drink. I liked the green tea bingsu the most as the ice was very fine and creamy. The milk tea was very choppy and I didn't like the texture as much. I think it's part of the aesthetic, but they serve the bingsu piled up super high in proportionally small bowls. They fully expect a mess so they provide trays for every bingsu to catch the mess as it melts, floods pass the bowl, syrups drip off the ice and toppings topple off. I wish they would just put it in a properly sized bowls instead of the mess. Also, the wooden trays are chipped and broken which doesn't feel hygienic. Service was super friendly even though it was busy, so extra star for the hardworking staff. read more
Standard Bingsu experience. Been ordering at this establishment over the years and some of the promos in addition to the punch card has been phased out. The prices have went up, but the portions have remained the same, if not a little bit less. I understand inflation, but I would think that they wouldn't phase out incentivized promotions, but to each establishment their own. The wait time is horrendous, and the workers all seem to be in their own space and timing for when they want to get things done. Finished tables took forever to be reset. read more

I like the atmosphere. Trendy and cozy. Food options are great. Bingsu, bubble tea, toasts and waffles, and other stuff! Understaffed on a Saturday night, or they didnt wash their dishes fast enough. they often had to warn customers about the longer wait time. i do appreciate the warning. i do wish the manager or store owner recognize this concern as you can see the staffs are trying their best to please customers while hustling thru the orders without messing up anything. The bingsu tasted great! they had waffle made of mochi. Sweet and crispy. Nice! Definitely will come back and look forward to new flavors or items on the menu. read more

My boyfriend's brother recommended this Korean bingsu place after my endless rant about craving some cold dessert. My friends and I (group of 5) came here a couple days ago around 9:30/10pm ish due to some west coast jet lag. This place was really cute and had plenty of seating. The cashier was really sweet (sweeter than the bingsu looool) and patient with us as we figured out what flavors to try first. We decided on 3 flavors for our group of 5 people. My order consisted of: matcha cheese jelly, white choco strawberry, and Thai tea flavors. O-M-G!!! They were all so so SO delicious and incredibly light! Nothing like what I've experienced back home. Will definitely come back here to try the other flavors!! read more
I was craving bingsu and my friend suggested that we visit Dear Fro. Upon entering the establishment, I felt a sense of relaxed atmosphere. The decor was very pretty and clean which was great for ambiance. The staff greeted us immediately, and was prompt with their services. I ordered mango iced bingsu and fell in love with it. I enjoyed the creaminess and the soft texture of the bingsu, and I liked how there were mango chunks surrounding the bowl. It was so good that I wish the bowl was bigger lol. I really spoiled myself and got the lychee black boba iced tea as well. It's a new feature on the menu recently. The texture was light and refreshing with a lychee floral flavor. It's not like your typical bubble tea that's thicker and creamier. Overall I enjoyed myself at Dear Fro and would go back again. read more

both the strawberry and mango bingsu were creamy and infused with the flavours of each fruit, which we loved. the fresh fruits that were topped off on each bingsu helped enhance the flavouring of the fluffy shaved ice and sauce more. dear fro is definitely one of our go to bingsu places in the area! read more

Came here for an afternoon snack for a light and refreshing treat and the bingsu was great! I got the matcha red bean one and the shaved ice had a very strong matcha taste. I would have like some mochi or some added additions with it but overall a very tasty treat! read more
Got my bingsu fix at Dear & Fro on a weekday night. The interior is very modern and beautifully decorated with many photogenic backdrops to take pictures against. I tried the two newest types of bingsu that is only available until the end of summer - Earl Grey Tea Bingsu and Coconut Grey Bingsu. Portion size was very generous which we were able to share among three people comfortably. I like how the mochi and syrup came on the side so you can control how much you want to put into the bingsu. My favourite of the two bingsu was the coconut one which had a very rich coconut flavour and I was pleasantly surprised with the toasted bread at the bottom! For earl grey lovers, their Earl Grey Tea Bingsu is a must try as there were strong hints of earl grey in every bite and hidden underneath the bingsu there were fresh mango chunks that complemented well with the dessert. Overall I will be back to try their other flavours when I am craving for more bingsu! read more

We have been here multiple times as it's our favourite spot for bingsu! The bingsu here is creamy and very flavourful with generous amounts of toppings in comparison to some other places we have been to that only have drizzles of flavour in plain shaved ice and limited toppings. The ambiance and decor is very cute and makes your pictures here very IG worthy. The space can be crowded at times, especially if they have specials going on, but we always find it worth the wait. You make your order at the front and you're given a buzzer that beeps when your order is ready, so there isn't much to comment on about the service. We haven't had any negative experiences so far. The only reason this is a four-star review is because it can be a little pricey. Otherwise, we always recommend this place for bingsu! read more
Bingsu is probably one of my top favorite items to eat during a hot summer day. Came here with a few friends on a sunday evening upon a friend's recommendation. So many flavor options to choose from and my indecisiveness made it hard to choose. Luckily my friends and I decided to share a few flavors amongst each other so we ended up getting the Vietnamese coffee, Thai milk tea and the oreo mango bingsu. Portion wise, the viet coffee and thai milk tea look pretty worth it but my oreo mango bingsu didn't really live up to the price expectations. Viet coffee and Thai milk tea were strong in flavors, they had tapioca on the side for both bingsus so in a way, it kind of reminded me of a viet coffee bbt and thai milk tea bbt. My friends and I agree that both bingsus were worth getting again if you really like coffee/tea. The oreo mango binsgu had chuncks of freshly cut mangos that were super sweet, the bingsu itself resembled a bear, super kid friendly. Taste wise was pretty average, nothing stood out. But portion wise I think it was perfect for 1 person, I never was able to finish any bingsus on my own at other places cause their portions are huge but this one was perfect for me without the brain freeze! Viet coffee/thai milk tea bingsu is definitely better as a sharable because the portion seems to be double of what the oreo mango bingsu was. With covid measures in place, this place offers take out and QR code scanning with their menu viewable for dine in (labeled on the table). Once you've decide, simply go up to the counter to order and they will give you a beeper. The beeper will buzz signifying that your order is ready and enjoy! read more
Location/Service - Within the same plaza as Marathon Cafe and Hot Pot - Parking is available and across the plaza as well. This is a very old plaza, so parking is tight and can be a little tough - LOVE their interior and decor. There are many little themes in each section of the place. I like the wall of greenery and sign at the back, very IG worthy and adds a nice vibe/atmosphere to the cafe - Staff were okay, we came at around 10pm - and although I know they close at 12am, I felt quite rushed with everything and one of the staff kept wanting to clear our plates when we were not done Food - Mochi Bingsu (bingsu = Korean shaved ice). Setup, taste and feel is similar to other competitors. Light flaky ice that's not too cold - blends and matches well with the mochi, red bean and almond powder. Decent portion size, perfect to share - Honey Toast with matcha & black sesame ice cream. Toast was well done, lightly crisped, crunchy and you can distinctively taste the honey. Ice cream was pretty standard and compliments well with the toast Overall pretty nice place here for dessert. Would be interested to try their drinks next time. read more
Amazing bingsu place! We got the matcha bingsu and mango bingsu. Each one of them have an interesting shaved ice cream texture. It really adds a fresh element to the dessert. The matcha bingsu has small, little sprinkle-like shavings were really light. It had fun cheese jelly pieces that actually didn't taste too strongly of cheese. The matcha flavour is really nice and prominent, not overpowered with sweetness. The mango bingsu has scale-like shavings. They really held their shape and were very creamy. The bingsu has a fresh mango flavour, as well as fresh mango pieces. The bingsu have pretty good portions and at a great price point. The ingredient quality is really good! The flakes don't melt very fast compared to regular ice cream. I definitely recommend coming here--I'll be back! read more

The good: I ordered the Oreo Cheesecake Bingsu and absolutely loved it! I really liked how the shaved ice was flavoured with milk. It was a good dessert that wasn't too sweet. It's so good that I crave it after dinner. The bad: A little on the pricey side at $10.95 but this one is the bigger bowl. I think this is for 2 people. Yummy! read more

Bingsu was pretty good. Liked how the shaved ice was fluffy and thin. Prices were slightly more expensive compared to other places in regards to the size. The store is also quite busy especially at night. read more

It was very nice. We were looking for a great desert spot, and this is what came up so we decided to check it out. The deserts were very big, I recommend ordering one to share because you cannot finish one by yourself. I ordered the chocolate mochi waffles which were really good and my boyfriend ordered the mango bread which was huge! But also very good. Followed by two coffees, and iced americano 6/10 and an iced latte 10/10. read more

Fruit tea was great! It was a little too sweet for me so next time I would like to get half sweet. The sweetness wasn't like sugar but instead it tasted like honey so I feel that it's a healthier choice for teas!!! The mango bingsuu did not look right. I felt like I have almond slices instead of mango bing su. I like how they use fresh mangos instead of frozen mangos. I don't like how the server kept eyeing at our table and trying to rush us out the door when we haven't even finished our drinks!! read more

2.5 for the Bingsu + 0.5 for the Setup Coming here during a winter afternoon means no wait and you can get some quiet moments to share with your friends. Loves the decor and the quaint vibe. The seats are comfy and great to just "chill" with some bingsu. The menu has such good professional photos. They all looked delicious.But I guess photos are just for references only. Blueberry Bingsu ($10.55) has hardly any berries!! not even half of what the photo shown. I felt a little ripped off even with the actual size of the bingsu itself. The milky snow does have a nice texture which I enjoyed. Nuts Bingsu ($9.95) has these caramelized nuts and sweet soy powder was quite good! With all these Bingsu joint popping up everywhere, the competition would be fierce as even in this small plaza alone now have 3 places snow ice! I might come back for the nice vibe but I am not sure if I going to pay that much for a petite dessert like that. PS My friend finished his in 5 minute! read more
For some reason I was craving for something cold and sweet, despite the weather being quite chilly already, so I popped by Dear & Fro. With 18 bingsus (Korean shaved ice) to choose from, I chose the one that both my boyfriend and I would prefer the most, Oreo Mango, because it has something for us both to enjoy. It really was a great blend of both flavours and on top of that I liked how the 'shaved ice' part was not just a block of flavoured ice pieces but has some creamy texture to it when it melts in your mouth. It is like frozen or colder than normal ice cream really. The takeout packaging makes the bingsu flatter, but I am sure that the in store version resembles more like the marketed photos. Their decor feels very wintry and probably has not changed much since Christmas season, but it was nevertheless fitting as their main products are frozen desserts. Everything was made on the spot and tasted fresh. Service was decent and waiting time was not that long. The clerk even asked if I wanted an ice pack to keep it cold. They do offer hot drinks, but I just wanted to get what they are known for. Since the location is just right up Finch Ave on Midland Ave, I might come back to try some of their other 17 flavours. But I most likely might wait until the summer when hopefully dine in service is available and I see their actual size and proper plating. Then again, the Thai Milk Tea and White Chocolate Strawberry bingsus look far too enticing for me to be able to wait that long. For $12.37 though, it would make more sense to wait until summer weather to properly enjoy this Korean classic. I shared this with my boyfriend and he thought it was tasty and pretty smooth for shaved ice. LionxPanda loves trying new places!! Such mediocre shaved ice compare to it's competitor - snow time. We ordered the mochi and mango bingsu. This is also offered at snow time. The bingsu here has only one layer of toppings. The mango bingsu had one scoop of mango ice cream with a few pieces of mango jelly. The prices here is the same as that in snow time, but for a smaller portion. If you want Korean shaved ice, please so yourself a favour and go to snow time instead ! read more

Very cozy place to hang out with friends, they also have a nice backdrop for Instagram. This is a perfect place if you want some light snack together with bingsu. LOVE the combination of hot and spicy mini hotpot, then cool down with some bingsu. read more
