Went here for a girls night. The first of the night was slow. Took over 10 minutes to get drinks, water and a waiter. Once he came over the service improved. The sushi was amazing! The only place I trust for Asian food. They always have consistently good quality food and seem to put real effort into their food vs the cheap fast food Asian places you'll see all over. Two days ago I visited Sweet Basil and left very disappointed. I ordered the fried calamari, which were the only good thing. I've also ordered the two rolls special - spicy tuna and avocado tuna roll. Both were tasteless. I also ordered the hurricane roll which was also pretty terrible. When they served me my miso soup, which was part of the lunch special, the spoon had red lipstick on it. They apologized and changed the soup but I was already grossed out. I am very happy for the places that remained open during the pandemic, however this was a total disappointment and would not return back. read more

Visited for the first time. Went around 7pm on a Tuesday. We were seated immediately. The place is small but cute. There were a lot of options to choose from on the menu. I celebrated a birthday here for my significant other and the food couldn't have been better. I live out of state and actually found out about Sweet Basil from Yelp and decided to give it a shot since the reviews seemed good and it wasn't over the top expensive. I am so glad we went here. The food was excellent. Easily the best Asian fusion cuisine I have ever had. Ever. We started off with crab rangoons, Philadelphia roll, and the rock shrimp. Crab rangoons were tasty, filling had a nice texture, and weren't soaked with grease. Philly roll was great, it's my go to sushi roll and it was so fresh here. Rock shrimp was out of the world - fresh and so yummy, I love the sweet sauce they were in. Also, as a side note, the order of rock shrimp is so large that you could actually order it in place of an entree. Then for our main meal we had the General Tso's chicken and spicy string beans. The flavor of the General Tso's left me wanting more way after it was gone and the string beans had the perfect spice which wasn't overbearing at all. Being very full from all of that food, I honestly don't know how we fit dessert but we did! We had the strawberry mochi which is basically strawberry ice cream wrapped in rice paper. This was tasty but the rice paper wrapper - which is edible and supposed to be eaten along with the ice cream - seemed a little thicker than others I have had in the past and seemed a little more chewy. But overall I would probably order it again anyway! It was tasty and I'm willing to bet it isn't something they actually make in house anyway, as you can purchase them at Trader Joe's markets. As for the fried ice cream - it was ah-mazing. It topped off our dinner perfectly. I am not sure what the batter is that they use to coat the ice cream but it tastes incredible. It goes perfect with the ice cream - great taste together. Also the presentation was great, our waitress painted decorative designs with chocolate and strawberry sauce on the plate around the ice cream. Too cute. Overall, wonderful experience here. Great waiters and waitresses that they have here. They are extremely attentive and friendly. I wish I had been able to make it in time for happy hour because they have great deals going on then. I've been going to Sweet Basil for years now. I was just there on Monday for Happy Hour (3-6) and had a great time! The bartender, Sky, was funny and interacted with my group while making our drinks/taking our orders. 2 for 1 drinks is amazing & their half priced apps are good too, obsessed with the rock shrimp! Must check it out. I've had dinner here plenty of times, love the sushi and the pad thai. Speedy service and the drinks are good! Decent rolled versions of spicy Scallop, spicy Tuna w/crunch, and spicy Crab. Also ordered the Spicy Basil Chicken, came out unexpectedly orange-colored but tasted good. A fun 2nd-floor scene with a full bar and an outdoor patio. Green tea was good quality and served in a hefty ceramic mug. Overall a lifesaver of a spot to get some Asian food in you. Every other time I have been to Sweet Basil the food and service has been so good but this time not so much.. I ordered Shrimp Udon to go on 11/19 at roughly 4:30 pm and then when I ate it after getting home I found that there was some glass in my mouth. I spit the glass out into the trash can because I was distraught that my meal was cut short due to a large piece of glass and called the restaurant. The woman on the phone proceeded to not apologize and told me if I did not have a picture then she could not do anything at all and did not apologize. I told her i spit it into the trash and could not get a picture and then she still told me she needed a picture without apologizing. I am very disappointed in the staff because I was just trying to eat my udon noodles and that process was so rudely interrupted by a piece of glass in my food and there was no sincerity towards my situation from the woman on the phone. Sweet basil should do better because this ruined it for me and it was one of my favorite restaurants! read more

Instead of refunding me and sending a free meal due to the delivery man HAND DELIVERING the food to the wrong person, the restaurant would still make me pay for the food and delivering another hour later. I came here with my Dad because I heard they had general tso tofu and since im a vegetarian I was very excited! A lot of asian restaurants now don't have tofu based lunch specials so I was happy to try it. The restaurant itself is really nice. It has a lot of seating and a large sized menu. For the lunch specials the prices were kind of high and they did not include soup or salad which made me really sad! I love my miso soup I don't want to pay an extra 3 dollars for it. The other problem here is that the portions were super tiny! The food tasted fine but I was still hungry after I was done. The food also took a long time to come out. Been here twice for lunch. Love it! Super reasonable! It's $7 for lunch so a steal. I always get the garlic sauce with chicken (medium spicy) and brown rice. You need to get the brown rice, I actually think it's red rice but it's amazing! Veggies included in the garlic chicken were crisp and not overcooked and a great assortment too. I'm surprised at the mixed reviews on this place. It's the best sushi I've had in Fairfield. The fish tastes fresh and flavorful, and they use a big portion of fish and not too much rice in the rolls. The salmon especially is soo buttery perfect. The staff has always been extremely friendly to me and my family. I have a gluten allergy, and it's easier for me to order from Sweet Basil than many other sushi places. They have gluten free soy sauce, which is always clearly labeled, and there's never any confusion about which rolls can or can't be made GF. read more
