Cute patio
Nancyrae S.

Visiting from Houston - my daughter took me to one of her go to spots. Super cute patio and dog friendly. Wait staff were super nice, quick food prep. Our lunch choices were very good. **only thing i would recommend is doing double corn tortillas on the street tacos - one tortilla fell apart after one bite

Street tacos: birria

Parking: plentiful street parking, with a lot in the back Ambiance: great outdoor seating with colorful murals, green ivy, and a canopy of beautiful leaves from the trees in the back patio Service: slow since it was a busy night, but we weren't in a hurry anyway. Good for vibing and conversation because we were pretty much left alone, but probably not ideal if you have an engagement afterward or are crunched for time. Food: cheese curds were excellent! They served Stillwater's Lift Bridge root beer, and I ate street birria tacos to go along with it. The birria tacos were okay, I wished that the consommé had more flavor, and the meat was dry. But the salsa de arbol that came with it was delicious!

I've been to Sweeney's twice now, and I want to love it so bad! My friend speaks highly of this neighborhood bar/restaurant, but each time I've been pretty disappointed. The wings are overhyped, and my vodka soda was watery. My friend's burger was dry, and you have to pay an extra $1 for cheese?! We were served salsa instead of marinara with our cheese curds, and it look forever to get it corrected. The service was slow altogether, but it seems to be better when sitting on the patio (like I did last time). Speaking of the patio, it's the main reason I'd come back again. It's a cozy little oasis :)

The Visit St. Paul Patio Passport program took me here. We did sit on the patio & it was a cool chill vibe. It was literally like a backyard/courtyard. We decided to just grab drinks. I got a drink and a shot. The shot was really good, it was called the Love Bomb the drinks were decent overall. The waitress was pretty attentive and nice. Not sure if the parking lot across the street belongs to them but we parked there and it was very convenient for us otherwise it was pretty busy in the area for street parking.

Went here for a private event and loved the place! We were on the second floor which was so nice and has a great space for a buffet and an area that would make a great dance floor. Bartender gave good recommendations for drinks, prompt and kind service, and kept the area clean throughout the event. The food we had was simple but tasty and the first floor had gotten pretty full by about 10. Good options for drinks on tap and chill vibe, I would recommend this place.

Chicken dumpling soup...yum!!

Stopped in on a cold snowy evening for dinner with friends. Nice atmosphere and comfortable seating. Great and knowledgeable wait staff. I ordered the soup first -which was chicken and dumplings. It was just like my grandma used to make! It was delicious and thick and creamy and the dumplings were so light and fluffy. I also ordered the 1/4# burger which , unfortunately was a huge disappointment! It came with cold fries and even though I ordered the burger medium, it was way over cooked and dry. The massive pile of lettuce on the burger also made it chilled. I know they can do better and maybe the 1/2# is the way to go.

It's a great little neighborhood bar! The dark ambiance is of the cozy variety, and the staff are willing to help out (even if you do show up with a large group--just tip generously, okay?). The drinks were normal and the food was solid bar fare. I'd swing by Sweeney's again!

After having punched chicken wings for the past 3 years. Now they have brought in inferior product with one third less the meat. Rip off.

So good! I've had their beer cheese burger and their southwest egg rolls! Both were stellar! They have a super cool patio. Very cool spot!

This bar gets three stars because it has the best patio ever. The lack of drink specials sucks, though.

Now we have a conundrum the next time we have to choose a pizza type because it was fantastic! Which do we get next time? Both? The sausage and jalapeno was spicy and savory, and the Coney Island was like a hotdog and a pizza had a baby and the best traits of both parents went into it! The Coney pizza ..for those who are curious...is a pizza with a Coney sauce base, cut up Ambassador dogs (the best kind), plenty of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, and then topped with chopped onions and mustard. It literally tasted like a hotdog...only it was pizza. Just terrific! It was a good day and we'll be back again and again. Again, it's not a fancy place...it's a comfortable and friendly place where you enjoy an afternoon or evening with your fellow humans. The best kind of place :)

Oh man. Where to begin... I've been going to tappers since 2010, before I was even 21. It was the…read morespot for the neighborhood usuals and it was a great atmosphere. But as the new owners have taken over, things shifted. Generally it was fine but in the last couple months things have gone downhill. The last straw was when I went in for a single drink with a friend, early in the evening and when we got our tabs, we filled out our receipts and left our tips and went on with our evening. The next morning, I was called by my bank about a suspicious tip amount that I had recently left (aka the evening before). These cheapskate cheaters and thieves working at the bar had changed my tip amount egregiously. On one single pint, I think I paid $7/$8? And my tip amount was over $30 making my one beer almost $40. If that is what tappers has become, it is no longer that quaint and unique neighborhood dive bar that Chris and Steve had bought back in the early 2010s. The icing on the top was that one of the owners was actually our bar tender that evening. Slimey and shady and when we called to inquire, we were hung up on. Let this place go back to the dogs. At least the drunks and townies that used to call Tappers their neighborhood pub weren't stiffing the customers.

On a Sunday night we got the added bonus of Happy Hour drinks and (all day) and $3 off all appetizers. We started with the cheese curds, Walleye fingers, fried pickles, and the free popcorn which was surprisingly some of the best I've ever had! Freshly made with coconut oil, it was light, crunchy and perfectly salted! All the fried foods including the gigantic onion rings were battered thin and crispy. Our server Ashley, was super, friendly, helpful, efficient, and accommodating! We were able to do family style so we could all try everything. The turkey and wild rice soup was thick and creamy. The pan fried walleye was a nice white, moist fish. Our choice of side was the sweet potato waffle fries which exceeded my expectations. We finally got to try a "juicy Lucy" (Juicy Lulu here) which was American cheese oozing between two thin beef patties served in a big soft bun. Everything was great including the prices here with short beers for only $3! 4.5 stars for food. 5 stars for service and gener portions. Thank you for fulfilling our Minnesota experience!

When I checked back in it turned out he was a bar back who couldn't pour drinks but he asked me for my order! I was also waiting on the waitlist for a table and the buzzer went off so we gave up our space at the bar, only to be told they buzzed the wrong person. The vibes were also off be square we inadvertently went there during Thur night bingo and it was super crowded and just not a fun scene. I hope to not come back here.
