I have been here a quote few times now, both during very busy and very slow nights. The service has always been good. The bartender gal running the bar for the final Wolves game was literally running back and forth helping people at the bar, and waiting on 6 booth tables as well. It was amazing to watch. I asked her at the end of the night how she remembered everything and didn't seem to overwhelmed as she KU had 3 other staff members for the whole place, which btw is substantial! She said she had no idea how, but somehow she is able to manage it. The food at this place is ok at best. They have a great deal on beer and drinks though. I highly suggest you stop by for a few drinks. Order the waffle fries and seasoned sour cream. It's the heat appetizer by a landslide. I was on the way home and was craving cheese bread. I saw online they had one and placed a to go order. I haven't eaten here in years, and didn't know what to expect. Ultimately, I wanted a thicker crust, but I was happy with the flavor of this bad boy. It is a thinner crunchy crust, but the flavors of cheese, butter, and garlic were pleasantly balanced. This is a large sports bar in a little hidden area in Saint Paul. The bar and seating areas are huge. A ton of places to sit, drink, and enjoy the day. Staff was hit or miss for me. We came in and were greeted to what do you want to drink before we even sat. I was like I'm not sure yet. I like when people are ready to serve but, it was more of an inconvenience that we didn't know. I hadn't been there before, I wasn't aware of the specials, or anything. Eventually she came back and we did rail drinks as they had 2-4-1s all day. We both had two sets which totaled $15. That's a fair deal coming at $3.75 a drink. If you want real ginger ale then do not get ginger ale in your drink. They use sprite and aromatic bitters instead. This is common but, not for everyone. We decided to get some wings and 1/2 off apps since it was happy hour. We decided on nachos and Italian pizza fries. The food comes in huge portions which was really surprising. Wings: we went for bone in buffalo with a side of blue cheese. These wings were soggy but, the buffalo flavor was good. I like meaty and crispy wings so I will give these a 4/10. Nachos: these are corn tortillas topped with cheddar, black beans, corn, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños, green onions, and olives. We added chicken and asked for a side of guacamole which is $2 extra. We started eating and realized we didn't have the guacamole. We let her know and said we don't need it anyone but, she insisted that we have it. When we told her we didn't want it we thought maybe she would take it off the bill but she did not. The nachos were basically gone when she brought it. The nachos also were lacking in the cheese department. 6/10 Italian Pizza Fries: the best part was the marinara. The pizza fries were things, flimsy, and flavorless. 2/10 This is a place to drink and hangout. Honestly Station 280 is nothing special. There are really only 3 major reasons why my friends and I come here: convenient location (good halfway area for me and my friends), plenty of parking and all day 2 for 1s on drinks. The only good food here is are the wings- this is a warning. Oh and there are usually plenty of tables. I've came here a couple of things and one time there was a huge fight. There was no security on sight and the cops got here many 15 minutes after the fight was done when the people involved in the fight already left/asked to leave. The service here is SUPER SLOW and you would be lucky if a staff greets/notice you. Every time we come here we know to go straight to the bar to order or wave down a server right away. read more

One big sausage fest I am not complaining, though Bumping this one up I have never been here past 8PM, so I am not sure what the late night crowd is like. During the afternoon and early evening, there are probably about 9 male patrons to every 1 female patron. I guess the cheap beer and the cleavage behind the bar keeps the dudes a flocking. This place is also surrounded by a number of industrial factories, so I think they get a lot of the after work crowd from those nearby places. The parking lot in front is pretty small and was filled up yesterday when I was there, but there is a huge parking lot in the back. The food is, surprisingly, quite good. The Mac & Cheese is one of their specialties. I Iike the Mac & Cheese here better than at Granite City or any other place that I can think of in the Metro. Last evening, I had the fish tacos - another one of their specialties. They are made with tilapia, and you get three of them for $8.99. I'd rather get the fish tacos at Sea Salt Eatery, but these are not bad at all. I'm not sure about this year, but I know last year they did an AYCE fish fry on Fridays around lent. They currently have a meat raffle on Friday nights. In addition to the 2-4-1's all day every day on everything, there are always different food specials going on every day of the week. There is a large gaming room in the back with pool tables, darts, and video games. Large screen TV's all over the place. They used to have NTN trivia, but I believe they got rid of it. BOO! Somehow, the drive here always makes me feel like I'm getting away from the city, though it's just on Como Ave, less than 15 minutes from my house. Perfect for a chill night of catching the game/fight with some good, reasonably priced grub. Tonight, I ordered the Chicken Sliders w| tater tots and my company ordered the buffalo wings. Unfortunately, the only size they have on the menu for the tots is the appetizer size for 7.99. But lucky for me, I'm eating for two (: me and my other personality (ha! jk!) Chicken was juicy and nicely fried. Buffalo wings were perfectly sauced and tasty. The tater tots weren't fried long enough, in my expert opinion. I would have appreciated more crunch. Slightly taste like cafeteria tots, and if you went to Saint Paul Public Schools you know that's not a compliment. Service was good, as usual. We had to request a menu after sitting for about 2 minutes, but it was pretty busy tonight. The wait staff is always hot, if that's the sort of thing that matters to you. Their waitresses will not charge the tip you wrote down on the receipt, instead they increase the tip. I'm one to keep all my receipts and check my statements afterwards. Although she didn't increase the tip by much, she didn't go by what I had given her and wrote as a tip on the receipt. I emailed the company and waited about 3 wks to get a response from the manager and they clearly don't care about their customers or the fact that their waitresses steal from customers. Although it wasn't by much, if she is doing this on a busy day with all her customers like the day I was there, it adds up. It isn't about the money but the principle, and it is still stealing no matter how little the amount is if she is charging more than what the customers wrote down as a tip. So, I have some mixed feelings on the place. Upon walking in, first impression is not bad. There was a male and female bartender and the male greeted me right away but then did not acknowledge me for a bit. I had a minute or two to look around. It was a Monday night so there was me and maybe 10 other people. The bar is huge in a skinny horseshoe shape. Lots of missing seats where I could see people were sitting but left because dirty glasses, napkins etc remained behind. They were not busy and the female came over fairly quickly and asked "what am I drinking" I don't drink alcohol much at all so I ordered a ginger ale. When I said ginger ale she looked surprised and said "oh,..just a ginger ale?" No biggie but it could offend some people. I eat out often enough and know fake ginger ale when I see and taste it. They mix sprite with a splash of coke which I personally don't mind but it would've been nice to know before ordering. But that's just me. The only thing I did not like is the lack of cleanliness. The female was dancing behind the bar while dirty plates, minor spills and napkins littered the bar. I'm a stickler for this so again it may not bother others but it bothers me and it kept them from getting five stars. What really saved them from a two star review was the food. I kept it simple and ordered the chicken tenders. They were delivered quickly and served nice and hot. You get a choice of three sauces, I chose classic buffalo, whiskey bourbon and ranch. The chicken was FANTASTIC! Hot and perfectly cooked. They used real chicken tenderloins not just breast meat. They were cooked perfectly and juices flowed out with every bite! They were so good I almost ordered a second! The fries that came with it left a little to be desired. They were crinkle cut but soft and some even mushy but they had great taste. I can tell if fry oil needs to be changed and this oil was clean and spot on. So, all in all a reasonably good experience. The male bartender was friendly and talkative and I enjoyed the conversation. The bathrooms were pretty clean and smelled good. If they cooked the fries a little more and kept the bar free of dirty dishes and kept it wiped clean? They would have gotten five stars all the way. But what pisses me off is I went here on a Thursday after noon and ordered off the app section where it clearly states "these select apps are half off on Thursday." I am not a yelp review writer, but my negative experience at Station 280 inspired me to write a review warning any prospective patrons prior to dining at this establishment. We went there on a non-Vikings game day on a Sunday night with an 8 person group. We were seated and waited 40 minutes for a server (who never actually came to our table). We went to the bar for all drink service and to order apps and we were greeted with an attitude from the bar tender. After around 2 hours we received just some of the apps that we ordered. Again with no server present, we again approached the bar tender. She then told us that she was out of the app and would have to give us a refund (but was unable to print a receipt). There was no manager there and I was given the number of a manager who was only available on week day mornings (which is unfortunate, because I work those hours). As we were leaving, one of the bar tenders approached our table, falsely accusing us of attempting to leave prior to paying our tab in full. Although it was nice to FINALLY be noticed, this accusation was untrue, every member of our party opened a tab and got our service directly from the bar. The bottom line, the service and food is poor and there is no accountability among the wait staff. We will never go back there again. It will be interesting how the conversation will go with the weekday AM manager. read more

My wife had a craving for a burger so we decided to give this place a try. They had a good sized menu, though a bit pricey. We opted for the Blue Cheese Burger, and the Jalapeno Popper burger. Both were cooked as we ordered and came with a small side of fries. Since we are still in the wonderful world of Covid I came in and picked up my take-out order and left. Was a little weird to see customers at the bar without masks on... But not sure what else businesses can do? I literally only go here 1 time per year. I work at the MN State Fair and the park and ride I use to get there is just a block or two down the street from Station 280. I would honestly go there more often if I lived closer. They offer 2 for 1's all day every day on beers and all single pour drinks. My beloved Long Islands are sadly not included in that offer but I order them all the same as they make them pretty dang strong. As I only come here once a year and it is always early afternoon on a Saturday that is the only experience I can review. I have never had any problems. At that time the place has a small scattering of what appears to be the locals at the bar and that is about it. The menu offers your typical bar food. Pretty good selection to choose from just go in with an open mind. A four star restaurant this is not. They have darts, pool, skee ball and usually a video game or two in the back which is where I always end up. A few games of darts to make sure I am not too tipsy to make it back to the park and ride and all is good with the world. There is a lot out front to park in. They seem to offer something new every night as far as meat raffles, etc. Plenty of TVs inside are always showing any and all sports. read more

My wife and I had a Crowd Cut for $35 at Station 280 and we decided to hit the History Museum in St. Paul and we had to use this coupon up quick. It looks kind of dumpy on the outside, but inside it is huge and they have cool TVs all over the walls. The bartender was quick to tell us the Crowd Cut wasn't good for the 2 for 1 special. That was cool, but he said there was a $5 pizza special on Saturday for a one topping pizza. My wife got a pizza with 2 toppings and he charged her $11, I couldn't figure out if it was because of the coupon, or because she got 2 toppings, we figured it would be a buck more to put some broccoli on top. I know if it were me and it would cut into my tip money (Which it did) I would have just made it $5. Even though the guy was cool, it kind of pissed me off, even after telling us there was a $5 pizza special after knowing we had the coupon. Whatever. He still got 18%, but not the normal 20%. Anyways, they had a bunch of good beers on tap, I started off with the Alaskan IPA, a solid beer. Fruity and hoppy. Good stuff. Our server was pretty awesome for my wife, in that he refilled her pop quite often. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, since our server said it was good. I got a side salad on the side for an extra $1.50. My wife got the "Pizza special" with spinach and broccoli and no cheese. It came out with very thin crust, but she thought it was your basic frozen pizza crust with some sauce on it. I though the edges tasted burnt. The sauce was prettyu good though and the toppings seemed fresh. Now, My meal was another story. The buffalo chicken was perfectly grilled with a just perfectly hot enough buffalo sauce. It really made me happy. The bun wasn't hard or dry. Came with some sliced pickles on there, just scrumptious! The side salad was really impressive, lots of extra cool stuff. It is little stuff like that, that makes an eatery jump up a notch. The croutons were even multi colored, seemed like marble and rye. Lots of yummy sliced onions and tomato slices. The menu was huge, if you can't find something to eat here, you are not normal. It was seriously two HUGE pages, good stuff. I ordered a Stone Pale Ale to finish off the meal (Maybe 2 of them) and they were spectacular. As a side note, my wife and I toured Stone Brewery near Carlsbad, CA, and it was an AWESOME tour. Our server was a really nice guy, there was no one in there at about noon on a Saturday, it would be fun to see it on a Saturday night. I can't in good conscience return to Station 280 after watching a patron get so over-served he fell out of his barstool twice. He was not only ignored by the bartender and the bouncer sitting feet from him, but they allowed him to drive home after myself and other people in my party notified them. The bouncer clearly wasn't trained to look for this stuff and didn't understand his role in preventing intoxicated driving. The bartender that night did speak to the intoxicated man after we insisted they intervene. She admitted to us that he shouldn't be driving but she let him drive off. Someone in my party (who is the supervisor at another bar and is TIPS certified) explained that the bar is supposed to try to get the intoxicated patron to come in and offer to call them a cab or to call the police if the customer insists on driving. This is the role security is supposed to play. Their job requirements aren't checking IDs at the door and playing on your phone. Yes, the food and drinks are a good value and the atmosphere isn't bad, but I'm alarmed by the lack of concern for safety and disregard for the responsibility that comes with serving alcohol. read more

Grade B-. About 250 feet east of the Minneapolis border in St Paul on Como Ave is Station 280. It's west of Hwy 280, forming a western sliver of St Paul that the city seems to have forgotten exists. Station 280 is in this demilitarized zone, an industrial and anonymous area few people know exists, and walking in to this warehouse bar with like 20 foot high ceilings and a 100-foot long bar with these spotlights hanging from the ceiling you are in a megadive bar called Station 280. This is unmistakably a large sports bar, with big screen TVs displaying with whatever live game is on, pool tables, framed jerseys, and booths. It's also sort of fun. They have daily specials on fare such as pizza, burgers, fish fries, etc. They have a very respectable tap selection. Two-for-one pints all day. I like it: it's solid. I can see myself here at least once every 4-6 months. read more

Ya know, there are some more reviews out here about this place...I don't get it. Do people not take it for what it is?? It's a bar, it's like in the industrial zone and it's an awkward shaped space. Get over having lofty ideas about it and accept it for its true self - a place to get some greasy food you will undoubtedly regret tomorrow, some cheap beers and some big screens to watch the current sporting event. If you take it for that, you will love it. 2-4-1 beers all the time, decent selection of appetizers and a fairly good variety of menus items. It's all a little greasy, but the beer is always fresh. The staff aren't super friendly, but they do their job and make sure your drinks are full. They have great TV coverage, so it's great for watching your favorite sport. I live near this place and had been to it in it's previous form as the Playground Nightclub mentioned by prev. reviewer. I think it has definitely improved with the remodel and new ownership. Went there last night (on a Saturday) with a friend, and it was packed for the NCAA tournament (good to see my Alma Mater UW Madison so well represented!). A bit loud, certainly a 20 something crowd, but fun and the music choices were mostly enjoyable (could have done better without "The Thong Song" thanks!). I've been there during the week and it is much more low key. I've actually been able to set my laptop up and get some work done. They have food specials (good tacos on Wednesdays and had free pizza being passed one Tuesday with bingo) and I really like the spaghetti with meatballs. Nothing spectacular here, but a well formed menu with some decent choices in sandwiches, appetizers, and salads. They have some good old arcade games to play to pass the time. Service is usually pretty good but can vary when they get full with a game going on. Oops - shouldn't forget that they recently have switched to having two for ones on everything all the time which has made it a much more affordable place for a drink and was certainly one of the reasons why I went there last night! read more

I was here for a business meeting. Food is alright. It looks fancier inside than you would think from the outside. People in the area seem to go crazy for it because at about 5pm there was a mad-rush of people wanting to get their drank oooooooon. They have some sizzling fajita plates that are kind of annoying. I and my partner have been a loyal customer for years at your establishment. I brought three other people tonight. We had great service at first, but one of our guest waited over 20 minutes trying to get food service. The waitress said she saw her hand but had ignored her thinking she was just in conversation. We moved past that incident to where none of us were served, asked or anyone to our table which was directly across from the bar. I finally had to flagged the manager and use my index finger to motion him to our table after another 1/2 hour of neglect. I watched our waitress/bartender on her blackberry with customers on the other side. When I finally got his attention and brought to our booth, explained to him that we had been trying to get the bill for over 1/2 hour he never apologized. He brought the bill. Never apologized. I had brought 3 new people to your bar and now will take my service elsewhere. How do you think that affects the 3 other people that had first visited your business. I am very insulted and plan to let others know of your poor service without apologies. Did I mention we were only there from 4:30-6:30 to have all of this poor service to happen. As regular customers, we will move to another place that service will be appreciated. I just can't believe that business would rather loose customers than be responsible.
