This lovely cafe has somehow become my go to coffee shop over the past year. They're in a great location on Atlantic, their coffee is delicious, and the inviting space almost always sways me in the direction of lounging for a bit. I wouldn't come here for a big meal but if you're in the mood for a light snack I recommend the avocado toast with a hard boiled egg. They're pretty laptop friendly and it looks like a nice quiet place to work. The coffee and food is on the pricey side though. read more

Visited for the first time today. Coffee was ok but their latte was awesome. 4 stars only because the restroom was 2 flights or so downstairs. Couldn't bother taking all my things down with me but luckily a neighbor watched it in the meantime. I will visit again! read more

Swallow Cafe - Heart intact - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Cobble Hill, New York

Been wanting to try this place for a while. My chai latte was tasty but the barista could have used some help from the owner to speed up the service. We sat upstairs in a perch like area of the cafe with a bird's-eye view. Food options look good and include pastries like breads/muffins/croissants. Wifi available along with ample two tops for laptops (and I see a few folks plugged in). read more

Swallow Cafe - Bird's-eye view. - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Cobble Hill, New York

Swallow Cafe made a bad initial impression when I first visited. Seating was hard to come by, and the coffee I ordered had a burned taste. I decided to give this Cafe and second chance, and I'm glad I did. The food options might be pricy, but the cappuccinos and lattes I've since ordered have not disappointed. Yes, seating can be a challenge, but that's the case with many popular coffee shops. The interior, especially the upstairs tables, exudes character. The service is normally fast and friendly. There's free wifi, and people don't shy away from bringing their laptops here to get a little work done (note the lack of power outlets). read more

Swallow Cafe - Sticky bun & cortado - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Cobble Hill, New York

The food was ok, the lattes were okay, not bad, the vibe was unusual and the space was very tight, not stroller friendly or baby friendly. Everyone was on a PC so if you feel like having your face glued to your monitor then perhaps this place will suit you. read more

I love this place, one of the baristas makes beats and plays mostly SoundCloud stuff during his shift. Very good food and coffee, good place to sit and work on laptop but it fills up quick. read more

I live down the block and go here regularly and have not once had a one of the employees smile or even act like they wanted to be there. I had a horrible experience there recently with my two young children--the barista--curly blonde with tattoos on her arms had a permanent scowl on her face and when she brought the smoothie to us, didn't bring straws and when asked, looked me straight in the eye, ignored me and went back behind the counter. If you want a place with good service or people who show an ounce of respect, don't go here. read more

This cute cafe has the opportunity to be terrific. I stop here often and always leave with mixed feelings. The lattes are delicious, the location is very convenient, and the interior has several seating options. On the other hand: Barista staff have attitude, not in a good way. They are unfriendly, and act as though we are interrupting them by standing at the counter waiting to order. Management needs to hire and train counter staff to be more friendly and inviting, especially to people who drop in frequently. Be Nice! Also, way too many laptop folks commandeering entire tables. read more

If you like your chai to taste like milk, this is the place to go. Staff is also very unfriendly.

This place is fantastic!!! Amazing coffee and pastries. I spent the better half of 2017 buying my gf and I almond croissants, iced soy lattes, and your basic drip coffee. The staff goes out of their way to be friendly, efficient, and helpful. If you're on Atlantic I highly recommend giving this spot a try. read more

Nice environment but cone early for a seat. Lots of outlets but designated tables for laptops (or no laptops). The vanilla latte is glorious with the hints of cardamon and cinnamon. The avocado toast is amazing and quite filling with a tiny side salad accompaniment. The turkey bacon is delicious - thick cut, smokey with a hint of sweetness. The staff can be a bit cranky but just ignore that and enjoy this sweet little spot. read more

This place doesn't get enough love. It has a comfy and cozy feel of a neighborhood cafe. You can swing by for a cup of joe but also order full meal. Plenty of desks for working -- you'll see freelancers work here during the day. read more

Stopped in for a coffee, there was a line a bit before 9am on a Friday but it moved quickly. I got a boring old black coffee which was good. They had a lot more interesting espressos, lattes, iced coffees, etc. They also had food. Grabbed a spot at the front window to have the coffee, nice atmosphere and good people watching through the front floor to ceiling windows. read more

Nice neighborhood cafe. Coffee uses counter culture beans. Nice atmosphere, wide open space, high ceilings, adapted from an exotic restaurant space. The coffee might not be as great as in some other local places, but when it's not too busy with laptops, it can be a cool atmosphere. read more

I had just gotten a steroid injection in my foot and was having a hard time walking from the pain. I had passed the sign at Swallow before for cbd lattes. I ABSOLUTELY NEEDED ONE!!! In addition to providing me with a nice place to sit and let the cbd kick in, the service was very friendly and quick. read more

I was just refused service and asked to leave the property because the management does not respect the Americans With Disabilities Act. As a disabled veteran, I travel with a medical service dog. The manager told me he cannot allow any service animals, which is in direct violation of the ADA. He also contradicted himself twice when I asked for a manager, and then proceeded to treat my friends, who had arrived before me, very rudely. Absolutely never going back again. read more

Sunday morning. Packed. Cute place (Atlantic Avenue) if you don't mind being inches from your neighbor. Food was expensive, and only ok. Online menu only shows you coffee and tea. Coffee was good - but an 8oz refill will set you back $2.50+tax. (Tax? Really?) Want to wash your hands? Walk down a couple flights of stairs and find a men's room without soap. read more

The largest hot coffee size they offer is 12oz., which pretty much captures everything you need to know about this place: Small, cute, but not particularly interested in helping you get much done, apart from a quick coffee break. They have "No Laptops Please" signs all over the place, so if you were hoping to chip away at your novel, essay, blog post, or e-mail you'll need to go elsewhere. (Unless you want to draft it up in a physical notebook, in which case I'm sure a Moleskine would be encouraged. But you'll have to type those drafts into digital form elsewhere) The funny part is they have free Wi-Fi and everyone is just on their smartphone or tablet, so it's not that the owners were hoping to cultivate some sort of analog Luddite refuge. Really it's just a policy against keyboards, so the signs should probably say "Consumption Only" instead. Ironically they do have lots of tables, but I'm assuming those are for paper books and other assorted tactile reading materials. Preferably works of significance, maybe Plato's Republic or Kant's Critique of Pure Reason. It's obvious we're being asked to conform to some kind of idealized coffee shop environment so you should probably do your part and contribute to a space of cultivated reflection. There are also a fair number of outlets around, though I'm assuming those are for charging your smartphone or Kindle? If their no laptop policy was meant to keep people from hanging around too long or taking up too much space at the tables they would have had "No Studying" signs posted too, so I'm still not sure what they're after. Look, at the end of the day this place is fine. It's a little pricey, even for the neighborhood, but the food is decent and the people aren't rude and the coffee is coffee. It just feels designed more for itself than its customers, and there's a lot more form over function going on. It looks charming, but isn't useful as a coffee shop space, and having signs all over that begin with "No..." doesn't give the sense that you're in a welcoming, relaxed environment. You can't come here to work, or browse the web on anything that can't fit in your pocket, but if you just want to read a book or talk to a friend then you can rest easy knowing you're not breaking one of their rules. But if you're a student, coder, or writer you'll need to find another place to do your thing. Which is fine--hey, it's their business--just disappointing. read more

Swallow has great seating for getting work done and solid wifi. The layout of the coffee shop is spacious and welcoming. The avocado toast and iced coffee are always perfect. Definitely worth stopping by while in the area. read more

You know this one is a little hard for me. I really love the interior of this place, the loft vibe, etc. but every time I come here (which is usually when I'm whisking through Brooklyn Heights for errands) I am repeatedly a little bummed with the vibe of the staff. I have been coming here for years, and will probably still come. But it's off-putting when you go out of your way to chat or connect with the baristas and they respond with indifference or even annoyance. I've asked for recommendations of "what's best" here and I always sort of get somewhat heartless answers like "I dunno, depends what you like." This isn't even something I would normally bother putting in a review because I get it-- people have bad days; II've worked in service. For me it's just been years of this being too consistent for me not to notice. As a business owner myself, I always want to know how my company is being represented when I'm away so I figured it's worth mentioning. 4- stars for interior vibes and deliciousness. Taking off one star for service and pricey drinks. read more

They kept messing up my order. I waited 20 minutes for my coffee. When I got home I realized they gave me the wrong pastry as well. Seemed like the baristas were hungover. Even though it's close by to where I live, I won't be back. Super disappointed. read more

Stopped by Swallow Cafe to do some work and have breakfast. While this is no hidden gem (everyone seems to know this is a great cafe), I found a place to sit pretty quickly and really enjoyed my steel cut oatmeal with peanut butter, apples, and bananas. I'll definitely be back. read more

Happy, friendly servers. Good coffee. Mediocre salad tho. I like working here during the day.

Although I appreciate Starbucks I try to avoid it as much as possible as it makes our lives (and coffee habits) so uniform and monotonous. Swallow is just the place I needed. What's most important, their soy decaf latte is so much better than Starbucks. Well done. read more

Really cute place, but an iced almond milk latte here is $6. I know we're in Cobble Hill, but that's absurd. ...And yet, because the lattes are good and there are no other good options nearby, I end up here all the time. Now have a love/hate relationship with both Swallow Cafe and myself. read more

i've been here maybe 30 times in the last couple of months and the staff are clearly miserable, even when i offer a smile and how are you. it was tolerable for a while despite the service and expensive cold brew because it's a convenient spot in many other ways, but yesterday i was barked at by one of the baristas for no reason. yelpers have recounted many issues with this business from service to quality to violation of ADA and not allowing patrons with service dogs in. i gave this place a fair shot but don't think i can continue to support this business. in my experience, unhappy employees are indicative of much bigger issues with management and a company as a whole. i hope they can get it together but from the sound of it, this is just how it goes over at swallow cafe. read more

Very cute cafe. Cozy decor, chill music, yummy food options, free wifi, lots of folks on laptops. But be warned: If you're going to sit at the tables downstairs, bring an extra layer becuase the air conditioning creates a seriously cold breeze (like actual wind) and there's no getting away from it! read more

Beautiful set up and DELICIOUS drinks. I visited around 1:30pm, on a weekday, and there was very minimal seating because there were lots of people on laptops. I purchased lunch and a drink, so I am grateful to have found a spot to sit. Nice employees and ambience. read more

Good mocha. Good green drinks. Tasty food. Definitely my favorite place to go to read, work, have meetings... as long as it's not crowded.

I really enjoy their coffee. However there have been a couple instances when the coffee was too watery. The atmosphere is great but it is often hard to find seats and plugs. I have yet to try their food but my friend tells me it's pretty good. Definitely one of my neighborhood favorites. read more

I really want to like this place. So much so that I keep going but the coffee is really not good. Swallow if you read your reviews you are not using enough ground coffee when you make your regular drip coffee. Starbucks- even Dunkin - is better. I also got the worst sticky bun I've ever had. It must have been two days old. read more

Servicable, bustling cafe in a pretty cool/unique space. I don't drink coffee - my boyfriend does and it's his go-to spot in the neighborhood. I've had hot chocolate a few times which was good if not particularly memorable. They do have a lot of seating and try to divide it between "laptops ok" and "no laptops" so there is reasonable turnover at the tables. read more

Great place to work on your laptop and sip coffee! They also offer healthy salads, unique sandwiches and some pastries.

I so want to give this place 5 stars but I just can't. It's definitely a very cool space, they serve excellent coffee, and offer a small but very well-edited menu (everything I have tried has been very yummy and also healthy which is a huge plus.) Prices are normal. The people who work here are nice enough but I definitely would not describe them as overly friendly. They aren't rude, but there does seem to be a slight hipster undercurrent. The wifi is not that reliable and I often have to restart my computer to get it to work. I definitely would recommend this place but it's not perfect. read more

Really good coffee tea and breakfast items. Get the avocado toast. Space is nice and rustic and counter people are helpful. Good add to the area read more

Visiting from Seattle. Where we take coffee very seriously. I came here a couple of times to get some work done. Indeed, there is a cute cove above, but be warned: the seats are awkwardly screwed into the floor up there and far from the table, making it a difficult place to sustain work that lasts longer than your cup of coffee. I got an iced latte with almond milk. Like everyone else, I am consistently annoyed with the extra $0.50 charge for not selecting the milk produced by miserable cows. If you're picky about your iced drinks being cold, don't bother here. Both of mine were watered down and lukewarm. There are techniques baristas can use to make sure his doesn't happen, but they dont bother here. Coffee was "okay". The other sitting area, not upstairs, is cute but there are not many outlets around so don't plan on having a lot of electronic work to do if you stop by. Baristas were not as rude as some Yelpers claim, but weren't particularly friendly either. I might go back, but it didn't catch my heart. read more
