I had a deeply disappointing and unsettling experience at this coffee shop. I placed my order and waited patiently off to the side, expecting the same level of service as everyone else. However, I began to notice a troubling pattern customer who arrived after me were being served promptly, receiving their coffee without delay, while I continued to wait without acknowledgment. As time passed, the situation became increasingly uncomfortable and disheartening. It felt as though I was being deliberately overlooked. I could not ignore the possibility that I was being treated differently because of the color of my skin, which made the experience even more painful and isolating. Brooklyn is known for its diversity and inclusivity, which is why this experience felt so out of place. I came in simply hoping to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee, but I left feeling disrespected, diminished, and unwelcome. A coffee shop should be a space where all customers feel valued, safe, and respected not disregarded or marginalized. After watching a TikTok about this sustainable coffee shop, I knew I wanted to visit. Close to the Barclays stop, there are a plethora of ways of getting here. They incentivize using your own mugs or using the cups available. They also have a selection of mugs you can use if you're staying and charge $0.40 for their paper cups. The coffee shop mostly has outdoor seating and the ambiance is very centered on their eco friendly practices. In the TikTok, the owner mentioned they get their milk in glasses, and run out for their pastries on their bike at Runner & Stone. I admire the zero waste movement and I am all for it. The problem is with the quality of the drinks. I ordered an iced matcha latte with almond milk, and it tasted like water with a little bit of matcha added in. Really disappointed because I wanted to like it and I paid $9. They operate out of what used to be a garage and are only open for a few months out of the year (spring and summer). They aim to be sustainable/ minimize waste. They encourage you to bring your own cups for your drinks, or sit in and they have reusable drinkware. I didn't know they had pastries until I actually visited, and it looks like they collaborate with a local bakery/restaurant called Runner & Stone. While it's not super spacious, there is some seating inside and outside. Not necessarily good for working, but great for disconnecting from laptops/ phones! Drinks are solid here, and they also sell some sustainable gifts on the side. read more

A little hidden gem in downtown Brooklyn if you are looking for a nice outdoor spot to catch up with friends over coffee. The drinks here are delicious and the pastries are also amazing. They are pet friendly as well! The only con are their limited hours and the price. read more

Considering their prices, one would expect the staff to be nicer. Also, on the first Thursday of every month, they want people to bring their own cup, mug, container. They will refuse to serve you unless you bring your own container or use one of theirs which have been sitting on a tray out in the open. A tray that anyone can touch with their dirty fingers. I'm not a germaphobe but this is pretty gross. So unless you bring your own mug, you won't be getting served coffee. read more

I live in the neighborhood and this has been my go-to coffee shop for the past two years. It's so charming and is open all -year round (including the Spring and Summer months). I love their no-waist mission. It's so unique and refreshing for a coffee shop. They also sell an array of small dessert treats, pastries and toasties. The vibe here is great, it's basically just a garage with two people working out of it -- a nice outdoor sitting area that is now somewhat common for the NYC area. I'm very disappointed by the chai. It just tastes like milk. Honestly, more like diluted milk--even milk has more flavor.

A true small neighborhood local coffee shop feel, equipped with an open garage door as the entrance and an entire focus on producing less waste. There are a few groups of seats situated out front in a way that makes you feel like you're just hanging out with friends, and they're all Covid distance approved. The coffee is great and they have pastries/food items as well. AND!! They use matcha from Kettl for their matcha lattes. (If you haven't been to Kettl, look them up on Yelp, too!) They use compostable cups and, the best part is that they actually have a compost bin for you to throw your cup in afterwards. The have cool eco friendly products throughout the front of the shop, too. read more

Stopped by during my lunch break and it did not disappoint. I love that this place is run out of the garage & I felt like I walked into someone's apartment when I entered. It is small but cozy and has an outdoor seating area which must be nice on warm days. I ordered a latte & the barista was very kind.
