Went to komeya today for the first time with my daughter, she got the maki lunch special and I got…read morethe spicy miso ramen. Mine came out later so forgot to take a pic. The Maki lunch special comes with 2 rolls, soup and salad. The soups and salad were a generous side, definitely more than you'd would get with a bento box. The salad was fresh and had the usual creamy ginger Japanese dressing, delish. For the maki bowls, they were a nice size, and are actually the normal sized rolls you would get from the menu for a spicy salmon and eel roll. I thought for price would be simple hand rolls with just fish and rice and wrapper, but these had cucumber or avocado, sauces and nicely filled. Deliscious eel, spicy salmon had a surprisingly different delicious flavor to it and nice kick. For the spicy miso ramen, it's actually their original tonkotsu with miso and spiciness mixed in. The waitress recommended as the best flavor and although I haven't tried any of their others, it did have nice flavor. Creamy, with layers of flavor and a nice mouth feel that coated your tongue with umami. I am a spicy fanatic, so for me wasn't very spicy, but with chili oil available on the table I could increase the spicy profile. The nice thing here is the ramen toppings aren't all extra so a great deal. Came with chashu, 2 pieces, one on top had been fried with an excellent char and crunchiness to it, especially since the crunchy garlic was on top. Also for toppings were corn, bamboo shoots, nori, rice cakes, and half a boiled egg so no nickel and dime for toppings here . Fast and attentive service so if trying to get in and out on your lunch break, no problem. Quaint, small venue in shopping strip. Quiet though so nice to have conversation with your lunch date. I would recommend and definitely go again

I showed our waitress and she said well of course there's a bone because they only use whole fresh eel. Bruh. I mean it's $12 for 3 pieces of tuna sashimi. I'd expect the food to be fresh at those prices. Then she quickly snatched it out of my hand and left. I did hear a soft sorry as she spun around. She went off to tend to other tables. But later in the meal I did hear her talking in the back with a man in Chinese about how a customer was complaining about a small bone in l their food. Guess she doesn't know I speak Chinese. At the end of the meal, I asked our waitress if she was the owner. She said no, quickly followed by a "the owner is not here today". Then I asked whether the owner was Chinese. Super duper long pause, followed by a soft spoken yes. Well, my favorite place in Memphis is also Chinese owned. I think many of the Japanese restaurants are. Ah well.

Came for a weekend dinner at the Hibachi station and left very disappointed in both the show and…read morethe food. Show The show started with the two metal tools juggling. Our guy accidentally flung the two pronged pointer to the side and it fell on the ground. He then picked it back up and continued the juggles instead of getting a new one. Then he moved onto the egg tossing and tried to get it to land on the side of one of his utensils. He failed three times in a row and gave up. At least we had lots of egg in the fried rice? He moved onto rice flinging into the customer mouths. The tosses were really bad and it kept landing short onto the table and on the customer clothes. As a finale, he did the onion volcano with a train whistle except the flames wouldn't stay on for longer than half a second each ignition. Very weak performance. Hibachi Shrimp ($23.95) Overcooked and rubbery. Not all the shrimp had been properly deveined and deshelled. The mushrooms as part of the veggies were also not properly washed as there were still bits of dirt on them. Hibachi Steak ($23.95) Server mentioned this was a ribeye cut. I'll let you decide from the pictures. Also ordered it medium rare but it came out medium well at best. Oh and the steak was also cut with the same two pronged pointer that had previously fallen on the floor. Performance, cleanliness, cooking were all bottom level. Family couldn't even finish the meal with how tough the proteins were. Maybe because gratuity was already charged, no extra effort was made?

We went with the Kobe cubes to start with which are ground Kobe beef, crispy rice cake, quail eggs with black pepper soy glaze. These were unique in flavor and presentation. The steak was moist and nicely cooked. (Eat these while they are hot as the quail egg does not go down as well when it's cold.) For our roll we chose the Optimus roll which is shrimp tempura and spicy tuna in soy paper, topped with salmon, escolar, spicy mayo and serrano pepper. If you like a roll with a lot of fish, this would be a good choice. I felt like it needed something to cut the flavor like cream cheese or avocado but that's a personal preference.
