Came here for dinner on a weekday while in the area. There were plenty of parking available in their lot. The restaurant has the pretty typical mom and pop vibe, and was pretty packed. The surprisingly extensive menu offers traditional Japanese items like nigiri, sashimi, and hot items, but also has a large selection of American influenced rolls with cream cheese. Although the flavor profile, presentation and the knife work can't really compare to some of the higher end sushi spots, the fish were pretty fresh and cooked items were prepared well. We stopped by since we had some time before another meeting and it was happy hour so why not give it a try; unfortunately we never had the opportunity. We waited over 10 minutes for someone to stop at our table to wait on us. Several waiters walked by our table 4-6 times, but never stopped. The restaurant was not busy. Was in the area for work and decided to find a sushi spot nearby. It looked like a fairly mom and pop spot alongside the freeway between the Woodlands and Spring. Plenty of free parking out front and a cozy interior. Service was good and their menu, although way too large for its own good, had diversity between sushi/sashimi/rolls and hot entree options. The rolls are mainly a fusion style (looking at you, cream cheese) and feature some sort of teriyaki / eel sauce as you would expect. we also got some sashimi and nigiri. The knife work on the sashimi honestly wasn't the best but everything tasted fresh and was prepared pretty well for a neighborhood joint! My sushi was delicious, but my husband's fish burger was unimpressive... a restaurant should only put on their menu a dish they'd be proud to serve... the burger was more of an obligatory item for those who don't like raw fish but enjoy the company of family and friends who do love raw fish. I almost feel like I shouldn't write a review, because I have yet to dine in the establishment. I've only ordered for pickup, but I will say that they have the food ready as soon as they can. I like the shaggy dog. I also like how the people seem honest- the girl who worked there said that the wontons don't have much crab and are mostly cream cheese. I appreciate the honesty because I would be annoyed if I ordered and didn't know that before hand. But back to ordering for pickup--It takes me about 20 minutes to come here and the food will be ready and waiting in a bag with the chopsticks and everything that I need. They do take your credit card information over the phone the first time you order, which feels a little sketchy because you have to read your whole credit card information instead of typing in somewhere but it's fine because I guess it's a way for them to ensure that the food will be paid for before you pick it up. read more

We were at the Woodlands Waterway a mile or so north, but we passed up several sushi restaurants in that bougie area after reading the Yelp reviews for Fukuda. It was the right move! Fukuda looks like another sushi restaurant in a shopping strip, but as this and many other reviews will attest, the food FAR surpasses the humble exterior. Decor is typical. Ambiance is honestly a little noisy, but all of the people are here for a reason. The food is amazing! The extensive menu built anticipation, and we knew we were in for something special from the first perfect bite of edamame. The spicy guava margarita is a must try (Japanese or not)! The gyoza was perfect. The sushi rolls were transcendent. My wife's noodles were delectable! Do yourself a favor. Skip the fancy buildings and come here for the best Japanese food! Sushi chef prepares dishes with old fish! Fukuda over-charges, and portions are very thin and small. You have many better choices than here. I suggest they will not survive. They were all japanese, so i don't know if that means there's a lack of japanese food options in the woodlands, or that this place is really good. i decided to give it a shot for lunch, and came here right when it opened. we ended up getting two entrees, one where we got two rolls of sushi and a chirashi bowl. we also got two pieces of tamago nigiri. The rolls were not too bad, but the chirashi bowl was the better item out of the two. It definitely wasn't the freshest fish i've had.The best thing about the chirashi bowl was the size. i couldn't believe for the price i paid, how much fish/rice i got. service was great, and attentive. read more

My favorite hidden gem. This sushi restaurant is tucked into a strip off the I-45 feeder road. Inside the restaurant is dimly lit with lots of seating and even has kids art on the wall which is very homey. I have been coming here for over 10 years as a regular. The staff is very polite and service is always quick. My group typically orders in rounds so there's always something new and fresh coming out. You can't go wrong with any food on the menu. My personal must order is the escolar nigiri which is easily the best I have ever had. The fish is fresh and served with caramelized garlic on top giving it the yummiest crunch. The crab puffs are the best as well. I love how light the wonton wrapper is compared to other restaurants cakey crab rangoons. They are perfectly crisp and bite sized served with delicious orange dipping sauce. If someone in your party is not a fan of fish they will love the gyoza. Their flavor is incredible so everyone at the table will probably want to try one. Their happy hour from 3 - 7 is awesome and they even have reverse happy hour if you miss it from 8:30 - close. My wife and I used to love Fukuda. We came here often for our sushi cravings. Over the years, I have noticed that the quality of the food has declined severely. The sushi does not have the same delicious taste as it used to and the restaurant itself seems to be a little rundown.definitely not the same ambience or service as previous years. I think if you were looking for other items on the menu such as their Katsu curry or some of their chicken appetizers, this would be a great introduction to the cuisine. read more

Was looking for a new sushi spot in the Woodlands and trusted my fellow Yelpers? Fukuda is located in a strip mall off hwy 45, but do not let it's location fool you. Stopped in at 8:30 pm after a little league game and to our surprise it was reverse happy hour. The happy hour menu offered a vast selection of sushi and non sushi items to choose from at special pricing. We did a mixture of both as the roll selection was very creative with items and combinations I had not seen before The wait staff was friendly, helpful and prompt. The atmosphere was bright. What also surprised me was people were still coming in for dinner at 9:00 pm which in my mind is a good sign. Next time in The Woodlands will for sure go back. read more

Great sushi restaurant. It's definitely a higher caliber sushi - evidenced by the sashimi, which were thick pieces, well sliced and beautifully presented. Just note this isn't your buffet style sushi. It's a higher price range - I ordered the Sashimi Petite (9 pieces of 3 different fish - white tubs, tuna and salmon). And it was $29.95 The servers were attentive and consistent. My glass of water never got to the bottom. Why 5 stars? Because the rolls are about as creative as it gets. --- --- --- If nothing else, I appreciate that Fukuda does not just have your standard sushi rolls that you'd find at any other restaurant. Looking through the menu, I wanted to try many of them, but the decisions on what to order was fairly easy because a majority of them were labeled "spicy". I'm sure many of them are not all that spicy, but between me and my dining partner (mom), we opted to just play it totally safe and avoid those altogether. That only left 6-7 options, and 4 rolls was the sweet spot for us. Here's what we went with, in order of favorite to least favorite: Flaming Lips: 5-stars. It comes out on a plate that's lit on fire. I believe they line the plate with sugar, which causes flames for about 30 seconds and then it dies out on its own. I always love warm sushi rolls and this one did not disappoint. It was the favorite of both of ours. Crazy Hawaiian: 5-stars. The fruit gave it a nice, tangy punch and made it feel like such a light snack. It was quite enjoyable and something I'd definitely order again. New Texas: 4-stars. I wouldn't say it stood out a ton, but we certainly didn't dislike it. It was just a solid sushi roll that I wouldn't need to order again but wouldn't be made if it was on a plate in front of me. Surfy Turfy: 4-stars. There was a thin slice of lemon on top that really overwhelmed the roll, flavor-wise. After my first bite, I removed that lemon and it immediately improved things. Lesson learned: order this in the future sans lemon. Points for creativity, aside from the need for a slight adjustment. Also, my mom ordered egg rolls to start off. They were fine - standard, egg roll fare. Our server was very friendly and engaging. I wish I had gotten her name, but you'll just have to trust me that one server working on April 18th had some good jokes. This restaurant is located right off of the I-45 feeder road, south bound. As soon as you open the door to leave, you are immediately greeted with the roar of 45 and barely able to hear the person next to you speaking. Ah, Houston, how unique you truly are. But feeder road noise aside, Fukuda was an enjoyable experience and one I wouldn't mind duplicating in the future. read more

What an amazing find this was. This place was crowded at 9 PM on Friday and knew the sushi here was going to be pretty great. We were right on time for happy hour and started at 9 so we decided to order a couple of appetizers and 2 rolls. We ordered the veggie spring rolls and the crab puffs for the happy hour appetizers. We then ordered the Volcano roll and the shaggy roll.. Everything and more of what we were looking for. The service was great and the sushi was some of the best I have had lately. This has been my go to sushi spot in Spring and for the time being, it still is. However, I did notice enough things on my last several visits to make an update. Happy Hour menu: The items on the menu have decreased and the prices have increased. I understand with COVID, restaurants need to make revenue back so not going to ding them for this. Just a heads up to anyone who is used to their old menu. [The not as good as before] Shrimp Tempura and other fried appetizers: When the shrimp tempura is fried in fresh oil, this is one of the best tempuras I have had in the States. However, it has become a 60/40 hit miss ratio on whether they fry in clean oil or used oil. When the shrimp is fried in old oil, the tempura is very greasy and dark in color. Biting into tempura and having it release soaked up oil is not a good feeling. Same goes for their other fried appetizers. Yellowtail: The last several times I have gotten yellowtail, it came out really fishy and grey in color. Won't be ordering this anymore. Specials menu: They used to have several specials on the menu outside their door, e.g. baby tako skewers. Last few times we've come, that menu has become smaller and smaller. Not a huge deal, but ordering different things was a fun aspect of our visit. [The still consistently good] Salmon is still consistently excellent. It is farmed salmon (let's be honest, so is most salmon in the world) but they have thick fat lines, very bright pink in color, and not fishy at all. Very well kept and always a great flavor. Tamago has been consistently good the last several times I've come. Pretty sure they make it in house and is a great mix between salty and sweet. One of the better ones I've had in the States. All in all, will still be coming to Fukuda, as it beats out the others in the area. Unfortunately, not as consistent as it used to be. read more

We loved how unlike other Sushi places, it is well lit. It is not dim like everywhere else. Pretty quiet, and cozy restaurant. They had a happy hour menu we could order from. Their food is delicious. You will see in the pictures. We had a Large Flavored Sake. The flavor was Lychee and was so yummilicous! The service was Okay. Could have been better. I had few questions and the waitress seemed annoyed everytime I raised my hand asking her to explain something to me from the menu. Gave me the vibe that she was annoyed and as if she had better things to do. I did appreciate the busboy who would pay attention to our glasses, and made sure to refill them frequently with water, without us having to raise our hands and ask for water. That was nice.
