Decided to go back for dinner this time. And it was just like I remembered it. The spider rolls came out fresh and the seaweed cone was still crunchy. I loved that. We also decided to a variety of their appetizers: Yakayori - dry Chicken katsu - even drier Takoyaki - ok but comes in set of 3 not the listed 2 Steak teriyaki- ok They also have a secret menu, which is no longer so secret thanks to this Yelper who has posted it. The Asian Tacos were pretty good. The wasabi tako is raw octopus and kind of reminded me of the sannakji that I had last week (except it's not moving). The secret menu also has kimchi and various ramens. For dessert tried the banana tempura. It was fine but no wow factor. 2nd time at this location but have been to other sushi masa's. The sugarland, Plano and the one in Tampa were definitely 5 star ones. This one I wasn't quite sure when I went there first. So that's why I wanted to wait until I came back. It's not like I didn't enjoy either times esp since it's $20.95 for lunch ayce what does one expect? But the other time was dinner so I did expect a bit more. But with sushi one bad fish or experience ruins the whole experience. Went here for a weekday dinner. Usually I go to Sushi Masa for the AYCE, but this time we weren't hungry enough for it, so we decided to try the Sushi Bridge instead. Honestly, it was a pretty good deal. You get 8 pieces of sushi, 9 pieces of sashimi, plus a Crunchy Roll and Dragon Roll. The fish tasted good, the sushi was made well, and there was a nice variety of different pieces to try. No, it's not the best sushi you'll ever have, but for the price, I really don't have many complaints. Everything tasted good, and I left full. We tried this buffet style sushi restaurant for the first time. We have tried other sushi buffets and this concept is a bit different. You order rolls, appetizers, and entrees similar to how you would normally order at a restaurant. The trick is order when you sit so that food starts to come. Then order more as you are hungry. Unlike a traditional buffet you can't just have one piece -you get 6 or 8 pieces. Harder to have a variety this way. We only had two of us..so perhaps with more people you can share more--although it says 'no sharing' on the menu. Kids price is reasonable as well. Everyone gets a drink- either adult beverage or soda/tea. Wait staff was great and manager was visible and walked the tables. Food came at a good pace. We didn't have room for all but ice cream for dessert!! Would go again--just know the concept limits your variety--unless you eat a lot of sushi. We can't eat more than 8-12 pieces. So we tried three rolled and were stuffed. If you leave food they have a policy about charging you...didn't happen to us because we are what we ordered. read more

My friend was on my side of town for a meeting and suggested we grab dinner and suggested sushi! I don't do raw fish it's the texture in my mouth for me lol but I do love a cook roll. Our waiter recommended the all you can eat option for about $35 it was a good deal. FYI the menu is massive, appetizers, regular rolls, specialized rolls, teriyaki, fried rice, desserts, and drinks (beer, wine, soft drinks but not cocktails). The portions are small which I think is intentional so you can order multiple items without getting full fast. Just do overindulge because they do charge for leftover rolls that are not eaten. The food came out quickly and the restaurant is beautiful and great vibe. I enjoyed my rolls except I don't like imitation crab so I will definitely next time ask them to remove that. Why 3 stars? Because the sushi was mostly fine, but there are better options in the area. --- --- --- We have had really good luck at sushi spots within a mile or two or Sushi Masa. One time, we were really close to coming here and made a last second decision to go to another place, and I've thought about coming back ever since. About a year later, it finally happened. I was surprised to find out that there were multiple all-you-can-eat menus. As good as that can be from a value standpoint, the best quality places are not serving up AYCE. I think the cliche ended up being true in this case. I started off with the gyoza and this was easily my favorite part of the meal. I might even go as far as saying that this was the best gyoza I've ever had. It tasted like it was super buttery, yet crisp at the same time. Don't come here without ordering this. 5 stars. Then came the sushi: I ordered the LSU, Out of Control and Yummy rolls. All of them were.... perfectly acceptable, but not remarkable. I was not really impressed with the menu either, as nothing particularly stood out as a must have. Well, one thing on the online menu did: the lobster bomb. But that wasn't available on the AYCE (understandably). LSU 4 stars. Yummy 3.5. Out of Control 3. I also ordered some shrimp tempura and it was easily the worst thing I had. I would give it 1.5 star. I'll be honest. I was excited to try out Sushi Masa because I had heard good things about eating here at, but it was a big miss on many levels. The food was okay. We went for lunch and we got the AYCE (all you can eat). The appetizers we ordered came out after 20 mins of waiting. (well 3 out of the 5 of them). We didn't get our salad or tempura shrimp. We ordered a few different rolls and the waiter forgot about our rolls. I had to ask 3 times and finally, he brought us some rolls, but not the ones we ordered. We ate them anyway since we didn't have any food allergies and got tired of waiting. When we finally got 2 of the rolls we ordered one roll literally had only rice and cucumber with eel sauce. The service was super slow and the waiter only came 3 times to our table. We never had the opportunity to reorder and ultimately our waiter just brought our check to the table without asking if we were done or wanted to order more. At that point, we just ended up paying and leaving. The ambiance is pretty cool and lots of tables were available but to be honest, I don't know if I'll go back after this whole situation. I've been to Sushi Masa several times now so my review will be an overall review as opposed to based on a specific visit. Dinner ($32.95) daily from 11AM - 9:30PM/10:30PM Dinners have a very large menu including options like sashimi, rolls, soups, noodles, fried appetizers, and desserts. Here are things I've tried that I can remember: -Spicy Kani Salad: Shredded imitation crab meat, cucumber, tempura flakes, and spicy mayo. Consistently a good start to the meal. -Clear and Miso Soup: Usually pretty good but sometimes too salty and not hot. -Shrimp Tempura: Super crunchy but more batter than shrimp. Also doesn't come with very much sauce. -Takoyaki: Good. -Gyoza: Standard frozen gyoza thrown into deep fryer. Sometimes overfried. -Fried Calamari, Age Tofu, other tempuras: Comes out too greasy -Salmon Sashimi: Used to be consistently good with nice fat lines. Lately, been very hit or miss. Also, the pieces are sometimes slivers. Eel Sashimi: Used to be consistently good but lately been hit or miss. The hit is they give you a standard size eel. The miss is they chop it really small and it comes out almost a size of a french fry. -Tuna: Standard yellowfin saku block. Came out fishy, maybe old/poor preservation/poor defrosting. -Red Snapper: Pretty sure this is tilapia they are advertising as red snapper. -Yellowtail: More miss than hit. The hits have been nice sizes with good pink touches. The misses are they are pure white/grey and very fishy. -Rolls: Rolls are pretty good but the amount of rice has been increasing every time I go. -Sesame Balls: Only gotten a few times but have been good as a dessert. Lunch ($20.95) daily from 11:00AM - 2:30PM Lunch has a smaller menu as well as only able to order nigiri. -Nigiri: The amount of rice that comes with nigiri varies greatly. Sometimes, it's a standard amount of rice. Other times, the amount of rice is bigger than the fish on top. The times Sushi Masa is good, it's a great. You get a great variety of foods that are good in quality (not too much rice in rolls/nigiri, the fish sizes are standard, and the salmon have nice fat lines, fish aren't fishy, and the yellowtail have a nice pink edge). The times Sushi Masa is not good, it's subpar. You still have a great variety of foods but you have to deal with tons of rice topped with teeny tiny fish, and the fish aren't great in quality (solid orange/pink salmon pieces, fishy fish, and grey yellowtail). I have had more good experiences than bad ones but I have noticed that each subsequent time I go, the chances of a not so good experiences is higher. Hoping it's just a bad patch and Sushi Masa can come back to being consistent. I'd much rather have them increase their prices than skip out on quality/consistency. read more

The sashimi salmon was served icey. Not just cold, but icey, which was disappointing. Overall quality was good, not great. Fish selection was okay. Rolls were 50/50 hit or miss. We've been to Sushi Masa a few times now and it's been nothing but great service. We were instantly drawn in when we learned that they do AYCE and have a great menu to go with it and not just basic handrolls or sashimi. Even on a busy weekend afternoon, they seem to be very accommodating to large parties but even for a busy restaurant, it never seems overly loud inside. The staff has been friendly and welcoming and is quick to escort us to our table with the server following suite to take our drink order. They're very patient and since it's AYCE, they don't rush you to place an order. We've only gone for the Lunch AYCE and can't wait to try the Dinner AYCE menu which has a few more rolls that we're interested in trying. Every item we've ordered tasted fresh and amazing. Service was friendly, but sooooo slow... you would've thought they were out catching fish because we waited so long for our food. I did appreciate that there wasn't much rice in the sushi rolls and sashimi was fresh (although inconsistent / small pieces). Nigiri had SOOO much rice though. I wouldn't get that again. Shrimp tempura had way too much breading, so pass on that. Dessert was ok, ice cream was icey and not my cup of tea. I would only order the oreos next time. Even if you are going to get just one roll and an app, you also get a drink and it's nearly the same price as if you got a roll at any sushi restaurant. We walked in and grabbed a bar seat on a Saturday night, got two drinks, shrimp (imitation I think) tempura, and the sushi and sashimi for two. I was disappointed with the tempura since it was imitation meat and extremely oily (I have had tempura before, I know how it's made), and with the sushi because we didn't receive any rolls with sauce. We were served ginger and imitation wasabi with the sushi, but noticed that the table behind us ordered the same platter for 2 and received rolls with spicy mayo and other drizzles of sauce. The sashimi was good and drinks were well made, but coming here after a west coast trip where any hole-in-the-wall sushi shop had better quality (and less dry) sushi at a lower price point was a bit of a step down. This might be my new favorite AYCE spot around Houston! A bit of a drive from the city center, but so worth it! My boyfriend and I went on the Monday before July 4th. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Though, I should've known from the moment I walked through the door so really this is my fault. Upon entering, I was hit with a smell that no one should ever smell when they enter a dining establishment. I can't even describe it, but it was nasty and it floated through the first 1/4 of the restaurant consistently. What I did like about this place, is they include a drink with your AYCE. That's not something I've experienced with other sushi restaurants. It's especially nice that one of those drinks can be a beer or house wine. That's unfortunately the only pro. The menu was lacking a lot of what we love about other AYCE restaurants in the area. No chicken crunch roll, hibachi, or crab rangoons. The clear soup tasted like dirty dish water. My brother was so disgusted he took one spoonful and pushed it away. So disappointing because clear soup is usually our favorite. The steak teriyaki was an extremely small portion & very rubbery/tough. Everything else just tasted the same. There was no real difference in flavors or textures. It was all just bland and boring. At the end, I ordered red bean ice cream and it was sour. So sour. That's when I pushed it away and really began to fear for the well being of my stomach. Our waiter was great.. until he wasn't. He checked on us multiple times and always made sure to ask if we wanted to order anything else. There were multiple times that food we ordered was taken to different tables because he put the number in wrong. A few times I ordered something and didn't receive it for quite a while because he forgot to put it in. It took 30+ minutes for him to bring our check, then he said "oh were you waiting on this?" He brought my check first & I gave him a card for it. Then he brought my brothers separately and he gave him his card. When we got our checks back, he had switched our cards so my brother paid for two people's meals that were double the price of his. Then we were left with no pen to sign. We had to wait another 15+ minutes for him to come back so we could sign the receipt and tip. Accidents happen, I totally understand but there was never an apology or even a "oh my bad". It was made even worse by the fact that our experience was so bad, we were dying to leave and ended up having to stay an extra 45 minutes just to pay for the food that wasn't worth half of what it cost. We had planned on going to grab a drink after, but felt the need to head straight home to the comfort of our own bathrooms. I sadly fear that I may be getting well acquainted with the toilet when I'm heaving over it later tonight. We chose to try a new sushi place tonight based on how good the reviews were. This is the first time fellow Yelpers have truly led me astray. I would like to formally apologize to my favorites Chi Japanese Cuisine & Sushi Haya. I should've never left you to try somewhere new.
