The restaurant had a nice modern feel to it with booths, tables, and bar seating in front of the sushi chefs. We ended up ordering some drinks (highly recommend the Cucumber Martini and Fiery Mango!) We went in on a Friday at 11 for lunch and they were not busy. The restaurant was pretty and fairly naturally lit. We were greeted right away by Lucky, our server. We went with the Kobe cubes to start with which are ground Kobe beef, crispy rice cake, quail eggs with black pepper soy glaze. These were unique in flavor and presentation. The steak was moist and nicely cooked. (Eat these while they are hot as the quail egg does not go down as well when it's cold.) For our roll we chose the Optimus roll which is shrimp tempura and spicy tuna in soy paper, topped with salmon, escolar, spicy mayo and serrano pepper. If you like a roll with a lot of fish, this would be a good choice. I felt like it needed something to cut the flavor like cream cheese or avocado but that's a personal preference. First, the good - the food. Holy cow! So, so good. We did the chef's choice sushi and (too many) apps. Everything was excellent. Exceptional even. I forgot the menu names of some but the fried tofu was fantastic, the angry snapper was darned near perfection. The salmon app thingy was so good. My wife thought there was some spice to it, but I didn't detect it. Kimchi Brussel sprouts were very unique and very good. I have to use corporate speak for this because I don't want to detract from the dining experience, but ambience is loud. I don't know how you correct that. A lot of reviews have said Sushi Rebel is "romantic". I don't know what planet you're from or what time of day you are, but it's anything but. The place is full of Exxon and HP employees. That's not at all a bad thing, but it isn't romantic when adjacent tables of friends are talking about meetings and projects. If you DO work at a nearby business, it's a great place for dinner after work. Service could use some work. It was our anniversary. We noted it on the reservation and the confirmation. We weren't greeted as such nor was it ever acknowledged. I was looking for free dessert or anything, but some acknowledgment would make it nice. The server forgot our tea with dessert and one of the rolls that that was part of dinner. So, really nice place, but loud and not romantic. That being said, I'd still return. read more

This was our first time dining here, and my initial impression was that the restaurant is beautifully put together. Since it was our first visit, we decided to order a variety of dishes so we could get a good feel for the menu. The *Dynamite Shrimp* was a solid choice and definitely worth ordering. The *Yakitori Chicken* came with two skewers and was good, although I personally would have loved the chicken to be a bit juicier. The undisputed star of the table, however, was the *Shaggy Dog roll*. Absolutely delicious!! If I return for nothing else, I'm coming back for that. We also tried the *Chicken Katsu Lunch* with the soup option. Overall, it was a pretty good meal. The chicken itself was fried beautifully! Crispy on the outside and cooked well. I learned during this visit that I'm apparently more of a light gravy on my katsu kind of person vs the sauce they provided, but that's just personal preference. The *Roll Combo A* was another great choice and offered a nice variety of rolls. Out of the three, the shrimp tempura roll was our favorite. And finally, the *Lavender Rise* drink deserves its own moment. My goodness. It was light, refreshing, and had just the right amount of sweetness. I'll definitely be back for another one of those... and a Shaggy Dog roll while I'm at it. Service was friendly throughout our visit. I will say this seems to be one of those restaurants where you're given plenty of space while dining, so if you prefer frequent check-ins from your server, that's something to keep in mind. Personally, the overall experience felt very relaxed and chill, which fit the vibe of the restaurant well. Overall, this was a pleasant first visit. While some of the dishes didn't quite surpass some of our favorite sushi spots in the area, there were definitely a few standout items that would bring us back. For the spicy mango cocktail to the signature nigiri (all 4), the flavors match the decor, everything is just divine. Madai being a favorite of mine, my favorite bite was the signature red snapper, however each bite of signature nigiri was tastefully topped, savory, and melt in my mouth delicious. The yellowtail had a punch of citrus, the snow crab was the most decadent, and...now I just sound like I'm describing the flavors of truffles in the chocolate box. The roll was tasty; the soft shell crab was fried well. The nigiri was fresh, but the size was quite small. The slices of fish were cut slim and thin. We ordered a mix of dishes--A5 wagyu beef tataki, the Philly Twist roll, Dragon roll, Kraken roll, and chicken teriyaki--and every single one delivered. The standout was definitely the beef tataki. The A5 wagyu was incredibly tender and full of flavor. It's one of those dishes you slow down for because you don't want it to end. The food was very good. Our server did an adequate job informing us about the menu. I am not a huge sushi fan, so I was looking for some options. I actually just ordered the different appetizers that you see pictured. The appetizer with the quail egg was good but not over the top good. The shishito pepper's were very good. Make sure you eat them when they first come out. The lobster and shrimp appetizer was very good and I would order it again. I ordered a side salad and it was very fresh and tasty. I ordered the salmon for my wife and it was cooked perfectly for her. The potato salad that came with it was bland, and my wife felt the veggies could have been steamed a little more. I will ask for that on our next visit. My wife visited the restrooms and she said they were very clean and well stocked. Parking is free and can be accessed easily in the garage a short walk to the restaurant. The decor was trendy and appropriate for the restaurant. The sauce for the brussel sprouts did not pair well with the vegetable. It was overly sour and not a tasty kind of spice (similar to buffalo sauce). It feels like they just poured any generic hot sauce on top of brussel sprouts and called it a day. They weren't very crispy either... more on the soggy side. As for the sushi, neither the tuna nor salmon tasted fresh. The seasoning for the fish didn't taste particularly great either. As I ate the rolls I felt like the texture of the rice and fish was very off-putting for some reason. It was hard to finish. Sadly very pricy as well... I had read the reviews and the theme was generally overpriced for what you get. I thought, well sushi always seems expensive to me if I am judging based on quantity. After dining here last night, I have to agree with this who said overpriced for what you get. I do t believe they were only talking quantity but quality as well. My wife, our son and I had several things. We started with Dynamite Shrimp which frankly were just meh at best. The kimchi Brussels were very good. My son had the truffle tuna, the Kobe Cubes and the A5. He hammered all three and ordered a second round of the truffled tuna. My wife and I had the Foie Gras and it was very good. She had sashimi and no issues. I had a California roll and a roll with waygu. Both were underwhelming. I mean, very little flavor. This is what I would expect from a grocery store. We were still hungry and so we ordered the Kobe cubes and they were the best thing we had only followed by the lunch Brussels. The bill was in fact way overpriced.
