I was excited to try this place and it was pretty disappointing. I'm confused about all the positive reviews of the Sumo Crunch. It is dry, unflavorful (the red part isn't spicy or salty), and way too expensive for the ingredient quality. Haven't tried the other products on the menu but hopefully they're better than this. The service was good at this location though! If you're debating, I'd recommend going to Onigilly across the street instead. read more

Sushirrito was unlike any food I'd had before. Similar to sushi, but add in a corn salsa and pickled onions. It was...delicious! The yellowtail tuna was remarkably fresh and there wasn't too much rice! The service was so quick and I had plenty of time to eat and chat with my best friend on our lunch breaks from our respective jobs. I was surprised by the addition of the corn salsa to the sushirrito but it made it very good and added an exciting sweetness. The best part is that afterwards, I didn't felt heavy like I sometimes do after eating a bunch of rice. It was wonderful! As great as sushirrito was, the best part was arguably when a woman made the questionable choice to walk her dog off leash in the financial district. Bad idea. It ran off in the opposite direction and she was surprised for some reason and then took off after it. My friend and I cracked up. This location is in the heart of downtown San Francisco right next to all the action. After shopping at Bloomingdale's my boyfriend and I walked for about 10 minutes to reach Sushiritto. Sushirrito has a selection of canned and bottled drinks. I chose the Kona coffee which tasted amazing. It was a great pick me up and had a tropical earthy coffee taste. I ordered the Geisha's Kiss and I tried some of my boyfriend's Sumo Crunch which he added spicy tuna to. In the Geisha's Kiss, the yellow fin was in the middle of the sushiritto not evenly spaced out. When I got to the bottom it was all rice. However the yellow fin was fresh and crisp. When my boyfriend first got the Sumo Crunch we realized the addition of the spicy tuna which we paid extra for was not in the sushiritto so they had to make another one. The Sumo Crunch reminded me of a huge California Roll because of the crab stuffed in it. I do think this sushiritto was built better because I got crab in every bite. The tempura provided a crispy texture to the sushiritto. Overall the food was decent and I would come back here to try the other types of sushirittos they have on the menu. Note that the sushirittos we got were very dry and not much sauce. My tip is to ask for a side of spicy mayo to help balance the texture and add some creaminess. read more

This was my first time trying a sushi burrito and I really enjoyed it. Im a big sushi fan and thought it was a great twist on sushi. The portions were a little on the small side for the price but I was in SF so thats the norm. There was a good amount of fish in each burrito and the flavors were good. We ordered the Latin Ninja and the Salmon Samba. I liked the sauce flavor in the salmon Samba one better than the Latin Ninja.We also tried a piece of my friends Panko-crusted spam musubi and they we amazing!!! Wish I had ordered that. We can with a large group of 10 people. They don't have a ton of seating but we were able to move tables around so that we could all sit together. However, there's no arguing that the concept works for people who think all a sushi roll needs is a carnitas filling and some viagra, or alternatively, all a burrito needs is some fatty tuna and wasabi. Founder Peter Yen saw the possibilities nearly a decade ago and this chain immediately proliferated. But the pandemic has forced most of the locations to close except this one which I happened to pass by as I was doing one of my random city hikes. This stretch of Kearny feels a bit like a ghost town since most of the office drones are working remotely. This place was buzzing pre-pandemic, but when I arrived, it was as still as a Republican at a BLM rally. I love yellowtail, and yes, I do mean the fish, so I ordered the $14 Satori and told them to hold the rice. So I guess I really had a wrap when I think about it. They were quite generous with the fresh hamachi and added cucumber, pickled red onions, bubu (grated rice crackers), wasabi, and corn salsa. I could eat here all the time if I lived in the area. The food is soo good, and they make it fast! The sumo crunch is my favorite. I love the outer topping and everything about it. The cowboy is really good as well if you're in the mood for beef. We also tried the geisha's kiss salad and it was really good as well. No complaints. I've ordered from Sushirrito a few times and they are a solid 4/5. They are pretty consistent. There's nothing really special about the rolls or bowls but they are good! I got the sumo crunch bowl ($13 plus $3.5 for spicy tuna). They really pack on the protein which I appreciate. The bottom part is like 3/4 rice (a little too much and too densely packed) and 1/4 mixed greens. They add a sauce to the greens or at the bottom and it is really salty (Ive ordered the bowl twice and the soy sauce like dressing is always there). There's not a lot of it but it's salty even with a little. I think their wraps (being around $13) is not bad! Neither is the bowl tbh. The crab and tuna were good and Ive had other wraps before. Stopped by this spot because I was hungry and needed to grab something quick to eat. This is a tiny spot that's relatively central in the financial district. I've always heard about sushirittos but haven't tried one before. I got the one with chicken katsu in it. The rolls were large! Took about 5-7 minutes from the ordering to when I got the food. There was a bunch of stuff in the roll. Plenty of chicken katsu pieces, cucumbers, cabbages, sweet potato chips and bundled up in a thick layer of rice then nicely encapsulated in a nori. The sweet potato chips gave it a nice crunch and a subtle sweet flavor. It was really filling! The chicken and fillings were room temperature so the katsu wasn't super crispy which would've made it better. The combination was good and it was definitely an interesting alternative to a burrito, good place for grab and go. read more

The salmon was far below what I was expecting, the plantain chips was an odd choice to add, there was a lot of lettuce in my sushirito. I didn't see a make your own option and all of the choices available seemed a bit odd. We had a group order, everyone got something different and no one was thrilled. I don't see a reason to return. I went to this Sushiritto location on 226 Kearny, known as their Union Square location, during fall Restaurant Week 2020, for their discounted $40 dinner of the Sushiritto kit (regularly $55). I saw that their first runs of this kit included all items/protein choices, but it seems they've consolidated this to 3 item choices that feed 3-4 people. Ordering online is relatively easy - just pick a location, delivery or pick up, customize the items, and set a time! The Sushiritto kit comes with Koshihikari rice, bonsai salad, Sushiritto chips, and their proprietary nori. First off, whoa we got a ton of utensils and plates! Second, there was a lot of nori! There were 8 full sheets of their own packaged, delicious nori. The date on the packaging indicated the best by date had recently passed, but it was still crisp and nowhere bad at all. It tasted like full sheets of those sesame oil coated, flaky Costco seaweed packs, but less flimsy. I really enjoyed this, and yes it did make my fingers oily from the sesame oil. You can honestly even split these sheets to make 16 smaller wraps, or 32 separate sushi tacos! By the time we dug into the rice, it mushed all together and didn't taste like premium rice, but I guess it wasn't too bad. The corn salsa and soy-based sauce on it helped. The Bonsai Salad is just a spring mix, and the soy dressing tastes like they snuck wasabi in a teriyaki-ponzu-like hybrid sauce - pretty zesty and tasty, actually! The sauce was nice when added to the rice in the wraps. The portions for the accompanying fillings were pretty decent. Geisha's Kiss, their raw tuna mix, has scraps of tamago, piquillo peppers, and pickled cucumbers. The tuna was okay, and would have tasted better if it was tossed in some ponzu or another sauce. Latin Ninja, their raw salmon mix, was my favorite filling, as it had a pleasant fruity sweetness from the mango yuzu citrus sauce, and some arare coating. The fiery chicken didn't travel well, although I don't think it would have been that much better fresh, either, as it has no crispy coating, and is more of a dry rub. The aioli-like Peruvian herb sauce did somewhat help, but I wish I chose something else. There's a lot of jalapeno slices on top, though! Included with the kit was a tray full of taro chips (light, subtle crisps), Okinawan chips (sweet potato goodness), and plantain chips (addictively salty). They were hard to put down! Yes, a few were a little stale, but there was a generous portion, and I enjoyed adding them to the sushi burritos for texture and eating them alone. As a meal kit intended for a small family, this is worth it - we essentially made 8 sushi burritos and engorged ourselves. If you don't mind stretching ingredients out a little, this is a pretty good kit. Keep in mind that other small family platters hover around the same price or less for food that has more prep and cooking time put in, so the regular price may be just a little much, but I'd still get it if your family enjoys sushi burritos in particular. read more
