Seeweed salad, Red Bull roll, large Sapporo beer, hot small sake

Feeling so glad that I decided to give another local restaurant a chance because it did not disappoint. The Red Bull roll was an explosion of flavor in my mouth and it had just the perfect amount of spicy so that I could feel the kick! The seaweed salad was also very tasty and the porcion was perfect for the price. Overall, I reccomend you come and give SushiKo a chance and treat yourself!

Today I visited Sushiko with my sister during our lunch break, hoping to enjoy some sushi. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected. After over an hour of waiting, we asked how long until our food would arrive. The server said it would be 15 minutes. Thirty minutes later, I inquired again, asking if she could bag our food to go and how much longer it would be. That's when we were told that the printer hadn't printed our order, and it would be another 10 minutes. I would understand if they are busy, the other table of two had gotten their food before we sat down. We were the only other people seating in the restaurant. They take way tooo long, I don't recommend it. Frustrated and on a tight schedule, we decided to cancel our order, as we simply didn't have time to wait any longer. What made the situation worse was the server's sarcastic remark wishing us a good day as we left. It's disheartening to encounter such poor service, especially when you're looking forward to a meal. We ended up having to return to work on an empty stomach, which was incredibly disappointing. I can't recommend this place based on my experience.

What a gem. Sushiko sushi is worth the price point, because of its high quality food, presentation and taste. Not to mention two sashimi like rolls (no rice; fish wrapped), one of which I sampled; "Hot lady", which was a whole new approach to my sushi eating experience and was fantastic. The "playboy" was delicious. The ambience is mellow, clean and has a club-like feel. My waitress, Michelle, was kind, attentive and gave wonderful suggestions. I will definitely look forward to treating myself to Sushiko again.

It was dead inside I don't know why, the food was delicious, service was excellent. Ordered the dancing spicy salmon and miso, both very good meals. The server was attentive and very kind. It was a little dark in there so when I walked out my eyes hurt lol but that's fine too.

I didn't expect paying $16.95. I can't even feed two to four people with what I got. I won't suggest buying fried rice from here my first time and last time. I love their seaweed salad, though. I thought to try other food. Really outrageous price for the amount of food receive. Very disappointed.

Yum in the tum! We were supposed to eat at Tokyo Garden tonight for Teppanyaki, but something happened with our reservation. So, since the girls really only wanted sushi, we decided to give this place a try. The "A" rating in the window assured us that this place would at least pass our health code expectations as far as food safety and food handling! The service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was clean, friendly, and soothing with the low dimmed lights! The food tasted fresh with a great presentation! Will definitely be going back!

3.5 stars The last time I was in Bakersfield, my friend and I grabbed an early dinner on Sunday night at Sushi Ko. The restaurant was empty, but I noticed several customers coming in to pick up their to go orders. My friend and I shared the following: -yellowtail nigiri ($5.50 for 2 pieces) -salmon nigiri ($4.50 for 2 pieces) -spicy tuna salad ($14.95): sliced tuna sashimi in spicy sauce -rainbow roll ($13.99): California roll topped with 4 types of fish + avo -crazy dream roll ($13.99): crab, avocado, cucumber (inside), topped with baked salmon I thought the yellowtail and salmon nigiri were great - both were melt in your mouth good. The salmon piece inched a little on the larger scale which made it suspect, but nonetheless, no complaints here. Both the rainbow and baked salmon rolls were adequately good - basic rolls I've had at other sushi establishments, but here, nothing really stood out about the rolls. The baked salmon roll was good but unmemorable. I felt like the fish stretched out just enough to cover the rolls, with nothing more to add. The spicy tuna salad was generous in portion, however, I was not expecting spicy tuna in poke form. A generous heap of poke topped the salad, which I thought was interesting. The salad itself doesn't come with dressing, so we had to ask for an additional side of dressing otherwise the salad was too dry on its own. Bits of the tuna were too sinewy for my preference, so for the most part, I stuck to eating just the salad. Well, sushi does exist in Bakersfield, but determining the best one with the freshest fish and best sushi roll concoctions? Who knows. Up to you to decide.

Had dinner last night with a couple of friends. The restaurant itself isn't very inviting. The front doesn't look like much (dirty windows and minimal signage) and when you go inside it's pretty dark. It was also warm inside. It was a pretty hot day outside and it didn't seem like the air conditioner worked very well. All three of us were sweating. I was greeted right away and seated to wait for my friends. The waitress was very attentive. My friends each had a Bento box which they enjoyed. I had the Udon soup and the Lobster Hills. I really enjoyed both. Had to take a lot of food home with me because the portions were pretty ample. So the nearly $50 I spent on my dinner and drinks will actually be two meals. The soup was delicious, somewhat spicy, contained thick noodles, mushrooms onions and the broth was just amazing! The Lobster Hills was also very good. The only complaint I have is that it was a baked roll so the top of the dish was hot as if it had been baked for a little bit but the rolls underneath the Langostino were cold. It was quite tasty though. My first time having Langostino and it really does taste like lobster. Honestly I'd like this place because the food was good but the atmosphere wasn't very comfortable.

We had the Bakersfield roll, golden salmon, soft shell crab (forgot the name) and ex girlfriend roll. All the rolls were delicious and cooked to our liking. The rice was unexpectedly delicious. You don't go out expecting to have rice this good! I just wish there was a sashimi menu.

Just ordered sushi to go and got the nachos, koko lobster and the crunchy caterpillar. I asked for some special items to my order and they got it perfect. I'm always leery on ordering sushi takeout because of past experiences but Sushi Ko was amazing. Will definitely come back. read more

Passing thru Bakersfield my spouse and I decided to stop here for lunch. We were both feeling sushi so we quickly yelped sushi restaurants in the area and decided on Sushi Ko as the reviews and 4 1/2 star rating looked promising. 1st impressions upon entering the restaurant (for lunch mind you) were gloomy and depressing. The lighting was too dark and it was about 10 degrees hotter inside the restaurant than outside. It was pretty empty with the exception of one other table and a single guy at the bar. Our waitress was friendly. We ordered 3 rolls. The red bull, mango mango, and rainbow deluxe. I will say that the presentation was probably the best of any sushi restaurant we've ever been to however the food itself left much to be desired. The rolls were small, the fish on one roll looked old (not fresh), and the fish on all the rolls was warm. I was afraid to eat it for fear of getting ill. If this is the best in Bakersfield, I will bypass sushi whenever I am in this town! Sorry but this place maybe 4 1/2 stars in Bako but a 2 star anywhere else. read more

My boyfriend and I were starving and thought sushi sounded good, so we ventured to Toro since it's practically within walking distance from my place and I hadn't tried it yet! It was like 9:00 PM on a Saturday night, and there were only a couple tables full, so we were seated right away. The first impression of the place is really nice - I really enjoyed all the decorations, the chairs, the booths, etc. The server was friendly and attentive - nothing bad to note. We ordered the honda roll and another fried roll. Both were really good. The only reason we wouldn't come back is since the price is just a tad more expensive than Miyosh (a couple dollars more for the same rolls). So we would probably head there just to save a few bucks especially if we were at the Marketplace for a movie or something already. But if we're feeling lazy, and don't want to drive more than 2 minutes to find good sushi, now I know we can go to Toro! read more

I came in late one evening the waitress was exceptionally good gave an excellent referral to the rattlesnake even though I'm not partial to Suraci I modified it by removing the cream cheese left everything else the same and it was amazing! I would recommend their food even though I just had one roll it was exceptionally fresh unique and tasty read more

The sushi has been consistently good. But the service has not been consistent. Their phone is always busy. This is the only restaurant I know that intentionally leaves the phone off the hook so they don't have to answer. That's bad business. Well I was going to place a large order today, but guess what? The line is "busy". read more

This place is great. The 911 roll was a fantastic spicy flavor explosion in my mouth. I also tried the Crunchy Caterpillar roll which was equally fresh and tasty. I'm a first-time customer and will definitely be back. We came here for lunch on a Saturday since the other sushi place I usually go to was closed. I will be coming here from now on. Best sushi I've tasted in Bakersfield with equally excellent service. read more

We just bought a Binbimba from this store. We were informed that the veggie is uncooked which is ok for us, but when we get the food, it is basically salad bar veggie(not traditional Korean Binbimba veggie) with medium cooked Steak meat ( not traditional Korean BBQ beef). We ask for fully cooked egg but they gave us ~40% cooked egg where the egg white is still raw. We feel very disappointed because this is basically rice with Salad bar salad and raw egg and steak+Spicy source which cost us ~18usd. I suggest this restaurant to make improvement otherwise, we will never go back. read more

I have eaten at many seafood and sushi restaurants, ranging from LA all the way to NYC. I have also by and large been very disappointed in almost every restaurant in Bakersfield, as any foodie would expect, with the exception of this one. It is in fact comparable to the sushi bars in NYC, and certainly the best sushi available in the small town of Bakersfield. Service: Impeccable. The owner himself will often come by and personally pour tea for his customers (a sign of respect in their culture, and normally not done unless its to a person senior to you). He is very friendly and has a good sense of humor, and I always feel warmly welcomed and that the staff are happy to see me, which is a nice change from the typically nameless service I get elsewhere. The waiters and waitresses also tend to be well trained, smiling, and even attractive. Food: I have had custom creations on multiple occasions, and they will often give me a new special to try, without charge. For example, on my last visit the chef gave me a fresh deep red salmon sashimi (wild salmon I believe), marinated in a special spicy sesame mustard vinegar sauce, with tuna on top and surrounded with thinly sliced onion tempura. Not on the menu, and delicious. I was also once given an unusual drink to try called "Yacult" which helps with digestion, and sadly I now buy too much of it because of how much I like the taste (it's very similar to Calpis/Calpico). Another favorite of mine is the Salmon Kama (collar, not for the squeamish), which is very healthy for the skin, has a high concentration of Omega-3, and comes with an excellent ponzu sauce. Their standard menu is also quite good, the fish is usually quite fresh, and they even have live Uni on Fridays (unheard of in Bakersfield). I recommend trying the Crazy Dream if you are not familiar with sushi, it's an excellent baked roll and good to start with. Atmosphere: Good music (similar to Starbucks), clean, generally a quiet atmosphere, and friendly. The chefs all greet you when you come in, and it is casual enough to sit at the bar and read news on an iPad, or dress up and sit down on a date. There is a TV near the bar, but it is muted and unobtrusive. Tea: I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the tea served here. It's definitely no Gyokuro or top quality sencha imported from Japan, but as a tea lover, I found both their iced tea and hot tea to be good, especially when the chef or owner makes it, as they know how to properly brew the tea. Mina (a waitress there), also makes absolutely delicious iced green tea, if you happen to catch her working. There is also a Happy Hour if you are more of an alcohol drinker. Yes, I admit I rarely have sushi anywhere else in Bakersfield now, since the quality of the "competition" is not even worthy of being mentioned in comparison. If you go, be sure to ask for your roll from June (their best chef) and Mina for your server if she is available, she is the best at making sure you have everything you need. read more

Stopped in this past Saturday night after an unpleasant experience at another sushi restaurant (see my profile). Luckily, we were pleasantly greeted and received fantastic service from the staff at Sushi Ko. I have been here three to four times and am still discovering their menu. On this particular night, they had several roll specials that drew my attention. I settled on the "Hot Lady" since it included some halibut that I wanted to try. The roll was delicious, as were the other choices we made. My favorite thing I've had here is called the "Screaming Orgasm" and it's what cravings are made from. The textures and flavors of this dish are dynamite! I will be back, to re-experience and to try new sushi as well. Thanks for a great meal! read more

Sushiko is a fabulous sushi spot! First of all the decor with the red chandeliers, upholstered chairs and dark accents is perfection. I feel like I am back in Hong Kong in LKF. It's that chic. The people aren't pretentious tho, they are very nice and friendly! The Sushi chef (is that their proper name? I doubt it) and the two waiters working were so kind and prompt. Although, it was pretty busy and I feel they were a little short staffed, but that did NOT reflect in the service I received at the sushi bar. I had the spicy tuna salad with big eye tuna and the Cajun roll. Super spicy and super delicious! I will be back when I am in town again, I look forward to it. read more

I have been here twice now and have been very pleased both trips. Excellent service. Cute and friendly wait staff. On my last visit I had the Red Bull Roll and LOVED it. I can't stop thinking about it now. As soon as I get a chance, I'm going back. 4 stars instead of five because the churashi bowl I had didn't seem like the sashimi was as fresh as it could have been. The best sushi I've found inside Bakersfield city limits. The owner is very nice and makes creative, beautiful, and delicious rolls. I brought my picky father here for dinner, and he agreed it was better than any other sushi place in town. We used to be regulars at Enso and Toro; but Sushi Ko is now our #1 choice every time. Love the Rattlesnake roll and the yellowtail jalapeño. read more

The sushi rolls are definitely unique compared to other sushi places in town. Their hot entrees are also pretty good such as the teriyaki chicken. Miso soup is also great. When we went, we received a complimentary dessert. Overall, the service and atmosphere of this restaurant is great and this is definitely my favorite sushi spot in town. read more

Glad I tried this place! One of the best sushi places I've tried in the Bake for sure! The ex-wife roll is so unique and quite good. I've never had a roll like it before. I would order it again! The 911 roll was alright- probably would try another roll instead of it. The service was great, ambiance was nice- cute little date place. I was pleasantly surprised by how inviting the place was. My best friend and I always come here when we want sushi. Best place in town with the best prices for sushi. While we always get the same roll for ourselves, we will always experiment on the one we share with each other. So far, every one has been a hit! I had never heard of garlic edamame until I came here and now I don't think I can go back to normal edamame! The udon is also fantastic if you want authentic, warm your insides udon. We've always had a great time and great service from the staff. The atmosphere is serene and just a great place to relax and get away to. The plating is beautiful and we appreciate the free chilled orange slices served on ice after our meal. Once in a while we will splurge and get mochi ice cream~ One of the points of it's charm that would not make it a true Sushi Ko experience if we didn't hear it, is that every single time we come, no matter what time of the year it is, is that we will always hear at least one christmas song playing on the stereo. It's just a little thing that always makes us smile and we hope never will change read more

I appreciate the ambiance, there is a fish tank with a blue tang fish and two clown fish which resembles Dory, Nemo and Marlin from the movie "Finding Nemo". There is a bar sections where you can watch food being prepped, inside seating and an outdoor patio. I've practically tried everything on the menu and they have always had the same great quality consistency. read more

The outside looks a bit sketchy since it's all dark but when you go in it's so not...chandeliers and everything...if I was on a date I would be impressed ...but I wasn't. - and that's another story. I was surprised it was quite dead. There was like only 6 people plus 3-4 people that worked there? not sure. They should promote more or something cuz the sushi was good. I mean I can't compare what other Sushi Restaurants are like in Bakersfield but this place is at par from what I eat in LA (not the expensive ones though like Nozawa Bar, Sushi Zo, etc.) but like regular average joe sushi places that has A LOT of rolls combinations that you don't know what to pick! I ended picking the Hama Hama...I think that's what it's called...it's different than the regular california roll with a shashimi on top...it was yellowtail, cucumber inside and yellowtail outside (I think) it's a bit spicy but it was so good! I don't know how they ship the yellowtail but it was fresh. To compliment my sushi...I had the miso soup and also the garlic edamame..that was also good, it was immersed(sp?) with oil (i think or might be butter) and garlic ...oh my! The only bad side was when I got my bill all that was approx. $22 and I took it to go. I paid tip cuz the server was so nice :) read more

This is one of the best sushi restaurants I've been to in Bakersfield. Our waitress, Jessie, was super attentive and very friendly. They had a lot of beers to choose from. I ordered a Kirin which is one of my favorites. The vegetable tempura was great, and so were all the sushi rolls my friends and I ordered. The lobster coco roll was amazing. I highly recommend it. The miso soup was not the best I've had, but overall a great dinner. read more

Let me start by saying that I'm a big fan of the Enso Sushi Family, and I really like the food and selection at the Toro Sushi on Coffee. I eat at all the restaurants in the family on a regular basis. However, the reason for my mediocre rating is the supremely bad table service my dining partner and I received last night. Granted, the place was busy, but our food server seemed distracted and was not attentive to our needs. I'm a big fan of technology, and it was good to see the wait staff using an iPad based order entry and register application. I use an iPad based electronic health record in my practice. Very, very nice!!! The environment is lovely and everything was clean and well organized. I tried the teriyaki bowl and the chicken was really, really lean (which is a good thing!) the sauce tasted homemade. My fiancé got the spicy spider roll and he seriously couldn't stop eating it! Later we had the fried ice cream (his first time) talk about delicious!!!! Everything tasted fresh and high quality! The waitress was really friendly and very helpful! The sushi is great! Always my first choice for some rolls. The service is average, a little less tentative than normal for other restaurants, but decent. The ambience is...interesting. The place itself is quiet, but when you hear the music playing it is quite the ride. You'll go from hearing modern pop music to Christmas music in the middle of June to Kpop to Eye of the Tiger. This is absolutely the best sushi place in town every time we go there we have the best service and it's the best quality fish you can find! every roll we've ever tried has just been delicious and there sashimi is absolutely delicious I would definitely recommend anybody to go there! I have been to almost all of the Bakersfield Sushi. This is by far my favorite one. My last time there I had Jen as a waitress, she was great. She made some recommendations, and they where perfect, actually better than what I was wanting in the first place. The whole experience was great. They kept the rolls coming and made sure everyone at my table was happy. The bill came and I was pleasantly surprised. Plus the new owner and chefs were awesome and very friendly. I'm sharing this simply so people can pay attention before signing. In today's economy, every extra dollar matters for families dining out. And while some people may say, "If you can't afford to tip, don't eat out," the reality is that restaurants rely on customers to stay in business too. Transparency goes a long way, and I think customers should be clearly informed when gratuity has already been included.

The California roll here is above average compared to other sushi restaurants. Their sashimi is a bit lacking in size but the quality is good. I do like some of their specialty rolls but it's a bit too pricey for me! Never order takeout since you're dealing with raw fish and the taste may not be that good.
