My favorite Japanese gem just moved from Norcross to Alpharetta. This place is perfect for lunch special, and they also have a Japanese grocery where you can get things like snacks, bento box, sashimi, and Japanese wine. My personal favorite dish was the chicken namban. I heard they have omakase for dinner, I will try it next time! read more

The food and service was great! The dining area is small though, so if you come at a peak time you may have to wait.

I was sad when they closed in Norcross, but was excited to see that they just moved away from the sketchy original location. The new location elevates the already high standard of food. The same lunch menu was a comfort to see, so I end with the grilled mackerel and sashimi combo. Never disappoints. The self service tea is also a great plus and addition. read more

I wish I could say this place improved since they moved, but they didn't. The dining area is very small. Get there as soon as they open or you'll be waiting on a table. The service is still a problem. It took 30 minutes after I ordered before the food finally came out. The waitress never came back once to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. The food was just ok. Definitely not worth the long wait. read more

We came here on a whim for lunch while in the area. Their portions are small but the price reflects it. I think we paid less than $25 for 2 lunch combos. I felt it was fair in this environment. If you know what to expect going in, you'll be fine. It's good for a quick lunch but not a great candidate for date night or something. As someone mentioned, the interior is super dated and it's not a great "ambiance". Service was quick and efficient and that's all I can ask for. Would come by again when I'm nearby! read more

This is one of NE Atlanta's beloved Japanese restaurants, located next to the Japanese grocery store, Tomato Store. It's one of the most authentic and wonderful Japanese restaurants I've been frequenting for years. The entire menu, including garnishes, is authentically Japanese, and it's run by a Japanese owner and staff, I believe. Important notice: They will relocate along with their grocery store, Tomato Store, to a new location in March 2025. New Location: 8560 Holcomb Bridge Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30022 They are currently closed on Tuesdays. Food 5/5: The dishes are delicious and authentically Japanese. The lunch combo with two sides of your choice is a must-try and is priced at only $10.99. Other lunch offerings, including sushi, soba & ramen noodles, Donburi, and curry rice, are also exceptional. The garnish includes shredded cabbage and closed lemon and more. Sometimes it has some extra side dishes like potato salad and spaghetti Neapolitan included in the lunch deal. Ambience 5/5: It's a small, hole-in-the-wall spot, but it feels just like one you'd find in Odaiba, Tokyo. It's not a candle light date spot, but great family spot. Staff 5/5: They are quick, attentive, and well-experienced. Despite the struggles during the pandemic, they have continued to strive, and this place remains my favorite and a staple. The new location is just 10 minutes away from the current place, but I will definitely continue to patronize them. read more

Drove by this spot countless times but finally checked out Sushi Yoko. After stopping by the Tomato 2 Japanese Grocery Store, we stopped by and had a quick lunch. PRO: - Affordable! You don't see $10.95 lunch combos around very much anymore so imagine our surprise when you have 24 options to choose from. Everything on the menu seems very reasonable for lunch. All lunch orders come with ginger salad, miso soup and rice. - Service was good. Our food arrived pretty quick and presentation was nice. CONS: - Location isn't very convenient and the space is very dated. The entrance isn't very obvious and honestly doesn't look very nice from the outside. Main entrance leads down a hall that has two doors at the end: one for the Japanese market and the other for the restaurant. Sashimi quality was OK - not the freshest but you're getting this at a steal. Ginger sauce on the salad was yummy. Grilled salmon was very good albeit it's a small piece. Udon was very basic with only a piece of sweet tofu on top and some scallions. No other garnishes. Parking: private lot (free) Overall, it's A-OK. Glad we had the opportunity to try this place. read more

A quick lunch of chefs choice sushi or sashimi from here always hits the spot. Can't go wrong with most of the ramen choices either. Negimaki is by far the best appetizer on the menu the beef is cooked perfectly every time. read more

A truly authentic Japanese restaurant. Service is excellent and the menu offers a wide variety of Japanese food. Been back several times and have never been disappointed. read more

Good food, service, and quick kitchen. The karaage is lightly breaded and juicy, the sushi comes with a dab of wasabi under the fish (just like Japan!) and the ramen is hot and savory. The menu is filled with many good items you will have a hard time choosing just one. I enjoyed the ramen the most and I was glad the waitress offered her opinion on it over the second choice of the curry rice (which I would like to come back and try.) The booths fit 4 and the place is small, but has large rooms in the back with tatami mats, and there is a sushi bar, but I suggest coming before 6 to get a table. Saw many takeout orders so the kirchen was really doing great to handle so many orders during their dinner rush. There are 3 different menus- lunch, dinner, and ramen. Check them all out! read more

The food is mediocre to say the least. Not worth the long wait (an hour). Customers are made to wait outside the store, and no one came to tell us during the whole 45 minutes of wait when a table will be ready. We went inside, wrote on a piece of paper our party number and phone number and that's it. There is virtually zero service. The place also seemed like a makeshift "restaurant" but it's just a section off a grocery store. Will not go back for sure and I would not recommend the place to anyone.. read more

From the outside and even inside, Sushi Yoko isn't super new or has a grandeur appearance. Despite this lackluster appearance, the early dinner crowd on a Friday night definitely showed up with the place being filled quickly. There seemed to be some regulars as well. We shared the mochi age which comes with 2 pieces. This deep dried rice cake was interesting and what'd you expect: squishy mochi. Their special sauce appeared to be a soy sauce base. Overall a unique choice but short of a palate pleaser for me. It was an interesting first try dish, but not much a filling appetizer. I had the yamakake don. This had tuna sashimi and Japanese yam on top of rice. The kaisen bowl pick also comes with miso soup and a house salad. The tuna came with about 6 to 8 cubed pieces. The sticky Japanese yam sounded interesting, but I honestly didn't know what to expect. There weren't much flavors going on with this choice. The hubs had the katsu don within the donburi (bowl) section. This also came with miso soup and house salad. The tonkatsu and omelet over the rice made the bowl a little more filling compared to mine. The pork cutlet wasn't amazing but felt to be a little dry, yes, despite it being a fried cutlet. He also felt meh about this pick. Service was good, nothing lacking. The portions were so so. The flavor profiles weren't wowing to me. Prices were decent. Overall it is about a 3.5 star experience, but the variety of unique choices and reasonable prices compels me to round to a 4. read more

I have been to Sushi Yoko's new location in Alpharetta as often as I could. The new restaurant is smaller. You may have to wait about 30 minutes or more to sit. I think for a normal restaurant size space, they went with half the space for the restaurant, half the space for Tomato food market. This may work. I did buy food from Tomato food market, while waiting. But, I think they may get more restaurant business with more seating for the restaurant. I love their food. I have not tried their dinner omakase. The price is a barrier, alcohol is to be paid extra, although I do want to try it some day. I wish this business to prosper for many years to come. Thank you for continuing your business in Georgia. read more

It's alright. You have to know what to expect though. The interior is super dated. It takes you right back to the 80s (not that I would know though since I was born late 90s). And the restaurant is hidden in the back of a building that also houses a small but authentic Japanese supermarket. Don't expect anything too nice inside and it's not a nice first date spot. But the food is authentic. Sushi Yoko is quite understaffed with minimal waiters and only one sushi chef. So they said it's quite a wait for the food. All of the sashimi/nigiri was super fresh and tasty. I liked all of them except for maybe the squid which was too slimy even for someone who relatively likes squid. Super authentic, quiet and dated, tucked in the back of an old building. It feels truly like a secret, hole in the wall place. But honestly, I prefer Tanaka in Roswell if you are looking for a small hole in the wall authentic Japanese cuisine place. Sushi Yoko is definitely worth a try though as it is an extremely unique experience. It's fun to stop by the Japanese supermarket to pick up some Japanese snacks you can't find at the other Asian supermarkets (mostly Korean or Chinese). read more

I used to loveeee umezono back in the days and I was craving for Japanese food until I remembered that Sushi Yoko used to be Umezono's sister restaurant back then so I had to give it a try. We came for lunch. First off I was shocked at the lunch specials. It was I believe $10.95 for a ginger salad, miso soup, and the choice of 2 other items. This is a steal!!! I would say the portion was fair and I was full at the end of the meal. I ordered the tempura and the chicken teriyaki . Everything tasted great., The service was good, they did post a sign stating they were understaffed but I came at the end of the lunch rush so it wasn't too busy. I definitely will be back, it was a nice casual restaurant and you cannot beat the prices. read more

The best Japanese comfort food in GA! I live out of state but every time I'm in the area I make sure to make a stop at Sushi Yoko. I know the curry is popular but do not sleep on the chicken nanban! Sushi Yoko has OG-Japanese vibes of being in restaurant in countryside Japan. This reminds me of my days working in Atsugi and spending countless nights eating late nite sushi and sakana with colleagues from a far. The place is not looking to be on an episode of HGTV, but more so the Food Network. The decor is minimalistic, location is just outside of ITP, and it is a blast from the past ambiance that questions whether we are in Asia or Atlanta Menu is fairly extensive and prices are consistent with other Japanese restaurants. Ordered - Katsu Curry (4/5). Hot, savory, and hits the spot with some fluffy white rice. - Takoyaki Balls (3.5/5). It was a-ok. Not what I was expecting - Yakitori (3/5). A little let down from what I usually associate Japanese bbq skewers with. This was bland and felt a bit dry - Tempura (5/5). Delicious. Lightly coated with batter and the sauce enhanced it - Sashimi Platter (5/5). Melts in your mouth goodness. It's been a while since I have had good sushi and this was what I needed. Chase it with some wasabi and white rice and you're good to go - Beef Teriyaki (5/5). Wow, this was a surprise. I was not expecting it to be all that special but the medium well preparation, sauce, and cabbage was a winning combination Sushi Yoko is a historic Japanese restaurant and represents some of the diversity that this city has to offer. Enjoy! read more

I always pass by this OG Japanese restaurant. There's plenty of parking and the Tomato grocery store is next door. The main entrance can be confusing but just head all the way down. The ambiance is like a small Japanese restaurant you would find in Japan. The server was nice and explained the menu. Prices are really good compared to other restaurants for most things. Purely food based review: 3 Combo (Sushi, Tempura, Teriyaki): - Sushi was chefs choice of 5 pieces. All we're fairly big size and tasted decent. Not super fresh but enjoyable for dinner. - Tempura was a huge portion and I would highly recommend it! Each piece was so good and so filling. I definitely recommend it to people coming here! - Teriyaki was the super surprising dish! It's only $3 more to add on to the 2 combo. I was expecting standard Americanized teriyaki but wow it's more like a medium rare steak with a slight teriyaki sauce! I would totally get this again. Beef Menchi Katsu: Decent appetizer and tasted very authentic. I would try it for a street food experience! read more

Sushi Yoko is truly a hidden gem. As in the restaurant is actually hard to find & amazing. The restaurant has -2 curb appeal. I missed the entrance to this windowless building at first. You go down a hall to the hanging banners, " Am I in the right place?" Through the doors and banners you enter a cozy little dinner. The ambiance is intimate and warm. People from all walks of life are dining. Really good food brining a diverse group together. The menu has so many good offerings. For our appetizer we got takoyaki, salmon nigiri, and tomago. The tomago was deliciously custary. I got the teriyaki beef because it was one most mentioned on Yelp, and I was not disappointed! It was not an Americanized version of the dish (thank god). Very very good dish. It was quite rare but hey trust the process. Great value for price. Everything I ate was delicious. I can't wait to come back and try something new. The whole experience was wonderful, the missing the entrance and all. Never change Sushi Yoko. The waitstaff are quite busy. The whole place only had two waitresses who were working so hard. They don't have time to chit chat at your table. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all, just as a customer be mindful. The wait can get long. Be sure to get there early and kill time in the Japanese grocery store next door! read more

Ordered their Combination and picked Beef Teriyaki, Tempura, and the sushi. It also came with a small salad and miso soup. The beef teriyaki was actually VERY good and probably my favorite part of the combination - it was more like a steak to me. It was very tender and almost melted in your mouth. The teriyaki sauce was delicate but definitely enhanced the flavor. The tempura plate was huge and came with an assortment of shrimp, sweet potato, and squash with dipping sauce. The sauce was very helpful in cutting the oiliness of the tempura and overall was pretty good as well. The nigiri came in an assortment of 5 - shrimp, salmon, tuna, and two others I can't quite place. All made fresh and each one super delicious. I'm not a big wasabi fan, so I could have done without the bit of wasabi tucked under each fish, personally. Service was also super kind, though a little slow since it was pretty busy with few staff members. It's a little big of a walk going into the building and walking all the way down to the restaurant, so you may need to do a little hunting for it. A very cozy atmosphere once inside, though. read more

I was honestly pleasantly surprised by this place. I am usually quite picky about Japanese food, and they did not disappoint. I wish more of their menu was available (a few grilled items and the grated yams were not available). But I ordered a salmon ikura don, beef tongue, ika somen, scallop and sweet shrimp nigiri (comes with fried head), grilled mackerel, onigiri, and a fried squid. Everything was fresh, tasty, tender. The price was great too. Definitely will be back more often to try everything on the menu!! read more

Friday at 5pm this place was surprisingly busy. The outside definitely looks unassuming but the inside looks fine. My wife and I shared the mochi age because she loves mochi ice cream. This was a deep fried rice cake. the texture is what you expect if you enjoy mochi. It would be tasteless without the salty soy sauce base. I could've eating five of these. I'll eat anything deep fried. My wife had the yamakake don with tuna sashimi and Japanese yam on top of rice. She ordered this because she likes to be more adventurous and seeks out the more unique stuff on the menu. The tuna on top was good quality but the yam was kind of flavorless. It came with miso soup and the house salad. If I didn't have my dish and appetizer, I would've been hungry. I had the katsu don within the donburi (bowl) section. This also came with miso soup and house salad. The tonkatsu and omelet over the rice made the bowl a little more filling than the wife's dish. The flavor was good but the pork was a little dry. Would I come here again? Maybe. Service was good but the portions were just ok. I wouldn't seek this place out but I do like the grocery store Tomato next door. read more

Got pickup and the lady was so unfriendly and wanted me to get off the phone. I needed help bc there's no online site. This review is setting service aside. I got the sushi/sashimi lunch special. The sashimi was WAY too small but I suppose a decent price is why. The fish did not look particularly good but upon eating tasted fresh. The ginger looked old and questionable but tasted fine. I got the nabeyaki udon which was full of flavor but I didn't like that the tempura was so soaked and soggy into pieces upon pickup. I wish they could have packed it separately. I even arrived early too for pickup! The takoyaki was some of the best I've had. Overall good tasting food for a decent price but I didn't care for the side salad that came with the lunch special and nabeyaki. The dressing was meh. But, I will be back to try other food! read more

Sushi Yoko is one of the oldest Japanese restaurants in the Atlanta area...I don't know much about its history but when I was growing up we use to come here a lot because there weren't that many authentic Japanese restaurants back in the back...actually there weren't that many Asians period but...of course that's changed completely... What I like the most about Sushi Yoki is how the restaurant reminds me of the family owned restaurants in Japan. The place is tiny and the decor isn't fancy but who cares. The service is always top notch, the food always great and the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. It's why the place has been here for so long. If you walk a little further down there narrow hallway there is the famous Japanese grocery store Tomato...if you go into the refrigirated section they have fresh bento boxes on the weekends for $5-$7 prepared by Sushi Yoko that are equally as yummy... read more

This review is not about the food. The food is really good and authentic and is really great comfort food to me. This rating is due to recent policy change by the chef. Let me preface this by saying I have been coming here for about 15 years. I was blind-sided today at lunch when I told I couldn't get an extra side of Natto with my lunch combo (not asking for a free extra side it would have been paid for). The lunch combo by itself isn't quite enough food so a little extra appetizer helps to get me full. I was told I would need to get another entire lunch combo if I wanted Natto in addition to my 1 combo. I was surprised to say the least and the reason really hit me wrong. I was told because there is only 1 chef right now, they are not doing appetizers. But this appetizer is the same thing as what is in a combo! I could understand this if I was asking for a side of something that is not on the combo list, but the item I requested is. So if the reason is truly because you are short-staffed, it makes absolutely zero sense to be able to have the ability to complete a larger combo order, but can't do an extra side of the same thing. To me it just felt like a ploy to get me to buy 2 combos. It worked because I was still hungry. I ended spending $23 versus $15...smart initial financial call by the chef, but perhaps not in the long run. Because of this, I don't know when I will be back and I might not be the only one if it hit others wrong as well. read more
