Tried sushi star for the first time tonight and I was blown away. The the fish was very fresh, and everything we ordered surpassed all my expectations. I LOVED the fire rolls and the beef teriyaki. It was a slow night due to the icy weather which meant the service was great and all the food came out promptly and perfectly. Order placed for pickup. While placing the order, the place seemed very disorganized, hanging up before completing the order etc. Was told it will be ready in an hour and to call once outside. Called and was told the order is ready and to come up to the door. At the door, my order was not there and was told someone else picked up my order. No apology or explanation given, was told i need to wait another hour for my order. Two hours for sushi, hmm no thank you! Came here with my family. The smaller layout provides for more service attention compared to Ye's. Food comes out piping hot from the kitchen. Rolls taste fresh and are quite large for AYCE. Terrible sushi. Too big and too much rice. Rushed us out after second order. All the sides were good like the coconut shrimps and regular shrimps but they like to control how much you eat then cut you off. Expensive too. Good and cheep. Service is average but the manager (I think) always keeps and eye and whenever we go and have an issue or food doesn't meet the expectations... She makes sure it's done properly. Being Japanese decent it's nice to finally have decent AYCE sushi in KW. The quality of the nori (seaweed) used is much better than the local competition. The rice is cooked and seasoned usually fairly well considering its AYCE, although the quality does fluctuate slightly depending on how busy it is/when you arrive. Like all sushi places there are some bizarre (non-traditional) items on the menu which can be experimented with (The avocado pineapple is actually pretty good). Unexpectedly they actually do a good ratio of ingredients to rice which is rare and sets them way above the competing sushi place. The grilled/fried items are so-so and I always consider them like side dishes to the sushi; they are typical to AYCE that is usually very oily and rushed. Stick with the salad and perhaps a few pieces of tempura. The service is very friendly although they do seem to get a little flustered when it is busy. Part of the reason being is that they take your orders table side but as a result they rarely lose items. The presentation is usually done with care and the young manager or owner takes great pride in the food which is obvious when he personally brings your order. Overal the best choice for sushi in KW and for all you can eat, the quality is surprisingly good. Do try to go for lunch rather than dinner and arrive early. The quality will be the best at these times and it is significantly cheaper. read more

Grabbed some takeout from Sushi Star. The food was fine, nothing special but satisfies a craving for raw fish. The menu needs work...a lot of it. Sashimi dinners don't come with anything, I mean it's just fish. No rice no soup no salad. The service was nice, decent decor but nothing to take an important client to. Clean though. All in all it's a perfectly fine place if you're nearby, but not really a destination from across town. read more

We just discovered Sushi Sar and we will definitely be back. All you can eat sushi. Good selection. Good quality. Service was ok too. Cheaper than many local AYCE places including Ye's. Sushi chips were tasty, lamb skewers a nice bonus. Looks nicer on the inside than the outside - although still casual, nothing fancy. Save a few bucks over the competitors and try it out. read more

The food is alright. But the service is damn bad. I use to go there amost every week but as time went by i noticed that the service there was getting worse. I remember going there once with my little brothers and the servers over there kept looking at us as we were eating from the time we got in until we got out which made us uncomftroble. Also, it seems like they just want to kick you out, i usually order 3 or 4 times including deserts. Every time they use to show up they use to look at us in a strange way and say will this be your last order. Its like they are saying when the hell are you guys gonna get out. I thought that this place was fantastic! I went with friends for lunch and they managed to accommodate 6 people (and we did eat a ton a food!) over an hour time period. I was really impressed at how friendly the servers were and how they were always paying attention to make sure we're having a great experience. Whether we wanted to order more, or needed water in our glasses, we never had to wait for anything. Very efficient service! They also have a really large menu for all-you-can-eat, and it really varies from more traditional sushi and rolls, to more creative and also cooked fish options. Which is great for people who don't enjoy raw fish! All in all, - Service was friendly and efficient - Great large menu for a variety of taste buds - Decent price for all-you-can-eat I went again the next week and brought my mom and she absolutely loved it! I went to Sushi Stars just after it opened, and thought it was pretty great. Unfortunately when I went back just recently, I was shocked by just how far they'd fallen from their original quality. The tables were dirty, the menu was really sticky, the sushi was falling apart before it even got to the table, the sauces were runny and flavourless, and things just tasted strange and cheap in general. (And this is coming from someone who loves sushi.) I was very disappointed by the experience, especially for the price. I will not be going back. read more

Update: We were contacted by the restaurant today, (after posting bad reviews) and given our money back. We were also asked to remove our negative reviews. We appreciate that they finally corrected the situation...even if it took 3 days and bad reviews to get it. However, I still wouldn't order from them again, not worth the headache. TERRIBLE! Worst service I have ever had! My friends ordered a sushi platter from here last night for my birthday party. After it was delivered we realized that we did not get what we ordered so they called the restaurant and explained. We were told that the driver had made an error and the wrong order had been given to us but that they would send the rest of our food to us right away. After an HOUR of waiting for the rest of our food they called us back and demanded that we send them pictures of what had been delivered and when we told them that we had already eaten the small amount of food that we had gotten they proceeded to yell at my friend. While still on the phone a delivery driver came to the door and dropped off 6 individual pieces of sushi. Still not even close to what we ordered. After calling us back 4 times, yelling at us each time, being on the phone with them for at least 20 mins each time while we explained AGAIN what happened, what we were told, what was needed to fix the issue and then told that new food was on the way we still never got our food. We paid $70 and received about $35 worth of food. So if you you like mediocre food, never getting what you pay for/order, being yelled at and harassed continuously for having the audacity to ask for what you paid for and getting told 5 different reasons as to why you never got it or why you're wrong (such as that we don't know how to count)...than I recommend this restaurant. Otherwise, steer clear of this place. (Thanks for ruining my birthday party Sushi Stars! We dealt with you for 4 hours last night. You seriously need to work on your customer service.) read more

I ordered delivery last night with a friend who is gluten intolerant. We wrote that we would like the order to not contain tempura in the comment section. The restaurant called about five minutes later. The woman I spoke to was very helpful, she gave suggestions of what we would add to the roll instead, and eventually we came to a conclusion. When the sushi arrived (About 20 minutes later), everything that wasn't supposed to have gluten was in it's own package with quite large well-made custom rolls for my friend! If I could choose less than one star I would. Ordered a 55 piece party tray. When it arrived we were less than impressed. (And I'm new enough to sushi to be impressed by just about any.) My date called to ask what happened and he was told "a new guy" was to blame and that we'd get $10 off - the next order. Meanwhile we were stuck with a $60 party tray of fake crab and slabs, not thin slices, of fish. A few of the sushi pieces consisted of just avocado, rice and seaweed. We ordered extra ginger and wasabi, but what arrived was not even enough for one person. My date went to the store to buy those things and called again when he got back to see if he could get a better resolution and the compromise they agreed on was an order of sashimi for half price. When that finally arrived there was more fake crab along with thick, uneven sashimi, but enough soy sauce to drown in and - for some reason - lots of chop sticks. He's been a long time customer so he was very disappointed and will not be going back. read more

I placed an order for delivery and was initially told that the delivery charge was $7, which I find expensive to begin with, but when the driver showed up at my house, it was actually $9. My order was $50+. In my opinion, there shouldn't be a delivery charge at all when I spend that much money. As for the food, it was good, but nothing special. The food is always so fresh and well put together it is by far the best sushi around. The beef is always so soft and sizzles. The staff are fast and quick with pick up and bringing food. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and cozy. Great place for sushi lovers and for people who don't really like sushi lots of options for everyone.
