What a lovely mom and pop shop. The hospitality and customer service was well above average. I ordered for pick up. I had a wonderful chat with the server. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potato's and grave and the turkey with fries. I added the battered mushrooms. Everything was delicious. The turkey was juicy and moist and the meatloaf was also moist yet well constructed. Both dishes came with carrots that were cooked tender but still firm. We chose Cole slaw as our side and it was lovely. The restaurant itself is located in a strip mall and therefore has a lot of parking. The interior is warm, scrubbed clean and inviting. Everything was good! Their baked goods look AMAZING!! When I went in it was Good Friday and they had the whole restaurant decorated for Easter. It was really cute with the eggs, bunnies, and baskets everywhere. The food was good. I got a turkey sandwich but I did find the turkey to be really dry but that's pretty common. read more

I've been to Homestyle a number of times over the years and they have the best and cheapest breakfast in KW in my opinion! I always go with the ol' faithful breakfast with poached eggs, toast, crispy home fries, bacon, and a side of hollandaise & chocolate chip pancakes! Always a cure for any late nights from the day before, and good for family outings! They always have a range of pies that rotate weekly, they are made in house, and are super fresh and delicious!! read more

We both had pancakes. I had five and my wife had three. I got two beige cakes and​ she got one. I have never had undercooked pancakes out in my life. They tasted fine but not as good as the two cooked cakes of course. A good​ thing here is you can get real maple syrup which is a plus. The service was excellent​. We looked online for a place with turkey sausage and we found this place. It was a nice breakfast! It feels like eating at Mom's house; it also feels like it has recently been redecorated (carpet, paint etc). The portions were generous and home fries made to order (crispy please!) . They could accommodate a larger group (call ahead). Lots of easy parking. Service friendly. As points of improvement they could use real maple syrup and have a wider variety of coffee beverages. read more

I had to work in Waterloo one weekend and my husband agreed to pick me up when I was done. Things dragged out longer than expected so we were both starving by the time I was able to leave. Thank the heavens for this place! I think we arrived mid afternoon when most normal people wouldn't be eating and they still had the breakfast menu available. We were the only customers by the time we started to order and there was one very chipper server at our beck and call. My husband had Ole Albert and I went with the Homestyle Eggs Bennie. The food came out at a reasonable time. Your home fries come with the option of added onions and peppers. The coffee was bottomless and decent by diner standards. Portions were good and the taste was amazing. My husband complained that the pancakes were too small (approx. 3-4" diam.). I thought that the rest of the food made up for it and he would've been too stuffed if they were any bigger. The restaurant's vibe was definitely Nice Retirement Home, down to the sweet little old lady who came in while we were waiting for our bill. The windows are big and some of the chairs actually have arms. There was one "painting" we couldn't help laughing at because it was literally a piece of upholstery with a frame around it. We absolutely love this place. Every meal that we have had upon our three times of going here, we have been brought back to feeling like we're sitting in our mother's kitchen eating homemade goods. Very disappointed tonight after dining at Homestyle for the 30 years it's been in business. I ordered my typical mini schnitzel dinner. Was told after asking for a little gravy on my mashed potatoes that there was an extra charge for that now. I questioned how much. $1.29 I was told for a tablespoon full of gravy. You have to be kidding me! Was ready to walk out. Sour taste left in my mouth after hearing this. However when my partner did not want all the toppings on his sandwich, they are not willing to discount his meal. The little amount of gravy probably cost way less than the tomato, lettuce and mayo. My schnitzel was way more breading than meat, mashed were cold, hense the reason I wanted the gravy, and the dinner roll was dried out. The atmosphere and decor is very nice and the service is friendly, but I was disappointed with the food. I ordered eggs with pancakes and toast but chose to sub tomato slices for the toast to cut down the carbs. When the food came, I was stunned to be given three of the tiniest pancakes I had ever seen. My boyfriend and I joked that pan-cupcakes would be a better name for them. The eggs were also undercooked. Finally, the server forgot to bring my boyfriend a glass of water, and took a long while to bring us the bill. I wanted to like the place, but it was a thoroughly underwhelming experience. read more

I personally used to love this restaurant and grew up on it for an after church treat, but more recently in the past two years things have gone down hill. Food started to become bland and I became reluctant to keep going. Today is the last day I will be giving this restaurant any more money. I ordered a drink and a salad and was only asked once for a refill and hardly saw our server. BUT the salad I ordered only had 26 SMALL lettuce leafs. 6.99 for that... never again.
