"Mennonite sandwich, please" is what I said - and what you better say if you know what's good for ya. That delicious summer sausage, fresh corn relish with a subtle but delicious kick of spice. The cheddar - classic taste - nice slice - just how I like it. Definitely not processed cheese. The fresh country white bread - melt in your mouth but still with a crunchy brown crust. MMMMMMMMMennonites seem to have the secret of sandwich making down pat. This is the kind of sandwich that puts hair on your chest...What's that joke - why do Mennonite boys grow beards? I enjoy the Othello (sans pesto, of course) but most often create-my-own. Last time I was there I had local goats cheese (swoon-inducing) on multigrain (OMG freshly-baked and so so so good) with alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados, lettuce, roasted sweet red peppers, honey mustard (made by local mennonites!) & mayo. I always add the "deli dills" - I'm pretty sure they're local mennonite too. Needless to say, PHENOMENAL. They also have THE MOST AMAZING 4-bean salad. Try it. Trust me. I don't even LIKE bean salad all that much... this one converted me. Really. GET IT. They lose a star because it's time to fix the service. It takes waaay too long to get your food, and that's true whether you eat in or order from the take-out window. Service is a bit better for breakfast, but still nothing to rave about. Expect to wait 20-30 minutes for your food. The kitchen & waitstaff are unfortunately more often than not visibly frazzled/stressed. I have been here for breakfast a bunch of times, as well as dinner once or twice. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their jam - "moss berry" - never heard of it before or since! For dinner, I've had the Spinach, Marinated Mushroom, Red Onion and Goat Cheese Pizza ($6.50) as well as the Caramelized Broccoli, Red Onion and Ricotta Stuffed Pasta Shells baked in a our slow-cooked Tomato Sauce ($13.95). Both VERY yummy. Their breakfast burrito is legendary. I must recommend it as your first breakfast expedition at YSK. For meat-eaters, try the peameal bacon. LOCAL PORK FACTOIDS: A note on peameal bacon + Stratford: this is prime peameal bacon territory. If you don't make it to YSK, try to get to the Stratford Farmer's Market where you will find a chuckwagon of sorts vending DREAMY peameal bacon sandwiches. OMG. AMAZING. Perth County produces some of the best pork in the country. If you're passing through Shakespeare on the way to Stratford (or back - it's just east of Stratford), make a stop at "The Best Little Pork Shoppe", which is certainly NOT little. Though the dusting of cinnamon along with the sugar was a nice touch. I would have also liked the option to go for real maple syrup (vs the individual Smuckers containers that they had) and would have gladly done an upcharge for that. I am giving a 3 star rating because while it was a 4/4.5 star meal, a waitress spilled a kettle of liquid on my back as she walked by. Thankfully the liquid wasn't hot. I know it was accident and the staff was very apologetic, but it definitely put a damper on my visit.

And looking at Peter M.'S review on price from 6 years ago- it hasn't moved to much! Even when egg princes have moved from $2/dozen to $4-5/dozen. I stopped in for a meeting and often passed this place but never visited. It's situated at the end of Eagle, just after it changes from Pinebush. The humble diner is situated next to gas station. The parking lot is beaten with faded paint lines and a old fashion sign tells you it's a diner. When you enter, you walk right into the middle of the restaurant where the one server can see you and seat you immediately. What's nice is that the place has about a dozen of tables, a little snug for trollers and walkers but workable. It's just one server for ALL the tables and she was scurrying through. When I arrived 3min late for my meeting, I could see my client waving me in the window- I did not need to go through a whole pack of "security guard " waitresses to get to my table- it's a townie type of vibe. The interior is dated with tables that are functional. You can see the paint slapped on the edge of the black paint, likely to cover the cute messages teenagers left over the years. The chairs are old fashion but not restrictive to your size- you could be plus size and still get your bum into the seats. The portion for two eggs, toast, hash and three pieces of sausage for $7.50 was the same size as the $12 grand slam at Denny's. So it's gigantic. So if you're a little eater, $6 is plenty. What I like is if you ask for something to take away, the server is immediate to substitute it to not rob you of an item. During my dine- I was asked asked how my meal was while coffee was topped off for the other people at the table, and it was a quick hurry in and out as the server navigated around the strollers from the next table, the cute boyfriend and girlfriend and the young at heart friends sitting nearby. I arrived at 9am, bill was paid at 10am, we still meeting chatted right until 10:30am. I'm pretty sure if you had 30min it was possible to be in and out. Truly a hidden gem and for anyone who wants some small time vibe I will definitely return. I used to be a regular at the Fifties but somehow they seem to be some busy, loud and hiked their prices. This place is quant and I can get a nice meeting in, chat about life and the big plans to make it through 2023. Check this place out if you want small time vibes and more. We couldn't decide between the duck liver pate and the ploughman's board so we ordered one of each...and the waiter promptly told us that the ploughman's board comes with the duck liver pate! This was helpful! So, we decided to order the "large" ploughman's board so we could share. It was HUGE. Like, enough to nearly fill us up. We still ordered mains which were delicious but we could barely finish. The one negative is that we asked for a doggy bag for the rest of the ploughman's board, and the waiter took the plate and brought us back the container. When we got home, we saw that the waiter didn't give us any of the duck liver pate (there was 1/3rd left over). Its a real shame because that's probably the thing I wanted the most. Otherwise, great place. It didn't *look* fancy but the food and service was definitely top-notch. Prices reflected that too. I would probably recommend this place, but I know Stratford has a lot of amazing restaurants and I have yet to try those.
