We came here specifically for dessert and I'm so glad we did. The dessert menu wasn't terribly extensive but did offer a variety of options. There is also a bubble tea menu which I hope to explore the next time I'm up this way. We ordered "a brownie thing" on a signature buttermilk waffle with vanilla ice cream. (They also offer green tea and charcoal ice cream flavors). As you can see in the photo, the waffle was a decent size and was enough to share (if that's what you so choose to do). I haven't been back to Hazel Tea since I've moved out to Toronto but my boyfriend really wanted to go back to try their waffles. Walking in Saturday night it was really quiet. There were maybe 2-3 other tables that were taken. It does seem like a really nice place to study. The place is clean, with soft lighting, and lots of outlets! We ordered a Belgian waffle, with soft serve ice cream, & the mango cheesecake as topping. The total came to $15 which was a little surprising. The food took a little longer than expected. But it came out looking great. The swirl was sesame & vanilla which had hints of both flavors; subtle and not too sweet but it was a little icey rather than creamy. The waffle was fluffy. I did not like the mango or the cheesecake as they tasted somewhat stale. Overall, I think for $15 it was pricey and I would prefer heading to Toronto for a egg waffle for $3 instead. read more

Fantastic modern tea house with plenty of delectable treats to help you off that carb wagon. After a great evening of dining, I felt like doing a bit of traveling by car before dessert. Before we knew it, we found ourselves smack dab in Dundas. After the food we gorged ourselves on earlier had settled, something sweet seemed the perfect idea. We ordered a buttermilk waffle topped with charcoal ice cream, bananas and Nutella to split. One bite and we all instantly regretted not ordering one of these for each of us. The charcoal ice cream was slightly sweet with a hint of coconut making for a very refreshing contrast against the rich waffle and it was all tied in together nicely with sweet Nutella and bananas. We were all smitten. The place left a little to be desired. It was clean and modern, but a little too clinical; a true modern coffee house. We understood it was meant to appeal to the young international students who lived close by, but an establishment like this could benefit from a bit of a more cozy feel. Bubble tea, bean shakes and ice cream were all on the menu. It all seemed tasty and a bit indulgent, but some of the best things are. This is a nice place for bubble tea, that doesn't get too busy. The waffles are pretty good, with a couple of options for toppings. It would be nice if they had a bit more variety for toppings for the waffles, but other than that they are pretty good. The bubble tea is good as well, but definitely not the best I have had. I tried the signature black sugar black tea with fresh milk and it was pretty good. Overall, it is a cute place for bubble tea and waffles if going to play board games with friends. read more

I LOVE this place! Definitely comparable to places in downtown Toronto... actually, I think it might even be better. I tried the hot Creme Brulee milk tea, half sweet, and it was delicious, omg. It had a strong tea flavour and was sweetened to perfection. I also got the matcha and red bean milk shake the next day and that was also delicious. If you have space, you should also try the matcha waffles. MMM MMM. So delicious. The waffles came with bits of sponge cake. +_+ The staff are all really nice here. I didn't think that the service was slow... I mean, it's not fast-food fast, but it's nothing to complain about! They also have popular board games here like Pandemic and Settlers of Catan. Or even just a simple deck of cards. I was pleasantly surprised. I can understand why this place has 5 star reviews. I can't find anything wrong with it. They also have a good presence on social media. I tagged them in a photo on Instagram and they liked and responded really quickly. I was in the Hamilton area yesterday and happened to see this well reviewed place on Yelp. Upon walking in, I noticed how small but open the space was - not overcrowded like Chatime always is. It seems to be frequented by university students since several people there had their laptops. Service was good - no complaints there. They seemed hard working and weren't just standing around talking to each other. I ordered the "very matcha waffle" to share with my husband. The waffle was made fresh as evident from the delicious smell coming from the kitchen and the presentation was alright. Where this place disappointed was the taste of the waffle overall. It isn't a good thing when the single scoop of ice cream is the best part of the $10 dessert. It also came with a few spoonfuls of red beans, some syrup, chocolate sauce and "cheesecake bits" (definitely not cheesecake bits as advertised) which turned out to be similar in taste to dry loaf cake or dry sponge cake bits. If they had run out of actual cheesecake bits, I would have appreciated being told that rather than having them substitute it for dry cake bits. The waffle itself looked fresh but tasted bland and too soft rather than having a bit of a crisp to it. Despite the disappointment with the dessert, I might be open to trying their bubble teas next time if I'm in the area since they are apparently really good. Wish I had room for bubble tea instead yesterday - now I know better to stay away from the desserts here. read more

This place is a diamond in the rough. If you don't know what to order - I'd recommend one of their waffles, or the Watermelon Milk Tea with Mango Jelly. It's a fruity drink for people who don't love the tapioca balls. Their game selection is fun - Pandemic is a great choice! read more

My friend and I arrived at the store at 11:40 PM, 20 min before closing. I proceeded to the cash to make an order. Before I could say anything, the cashier abruptly and rudely said "We're closed". I told her it was only 11:40 so then she took my order and made my drink. I didn't think it was a big deal, but then as I was waiting, 2 other girls came in the store 5 minutes later. Another employee then said "We don't have anything left", while ironically making my drink. Great tea and dessert place in the Hamilton area - not too far from McMaster, about a 15 minute walk. I stopped by while visiting a friend who lived in the building it's attached to. They have a great variety of drink options - from loose leaf teas and iced teas to milk teas that you can add toppings to (tapioca, jelly, red bean, pudding, etc.). I ordered the peach green tea - a great refreshing option (8/10) and my friend ordered a chai milk tea which she'd give a 10/10. For our main desserts, I ordered a Very Matcha waffle which comes with matcha ice cream, cheesecake bits (think Japanese cheesecake/spongecake not New York cheesecake), red bean paste, and whipped cream. I'd give this waffle a 3.5/5 - the waffle itself is average - pretty good, and the toppings elevate the dish. For my personal preference, I wish there had been a bit more matcha ice cream because I like the creaminess it brings - it balances out the drier texture of red beans and the waffle. My friend ordered A Brownie Thing waffle and it looked amazing - vanilla ice cream, brownie pieces, sliced almonds, Oreo crumbs, chocolate sticks (like Pocky/Pepero sticks), and whipped cream. We were both struggling to finish our plates near the end - you'll definitely be stuffed, especially if you order a drink like we did. Although the place was smaller than I thought it'd be (I wish it was a bit bigger), it's a great spot to chill and to study in. Tried the Very Matcha Waffle and it was delicious, portion size was good for the price ($9), especially compared to other dessert places. The space itself is quite small, so it may be hard to find a seat - especially if you're part of a group. On the Saturday night we visited, it was filled with students either studying (there is wifi and power outlets) or playing board games (there is a fair selection housed towards the back of the place). This is, by far, my favourite place to get bbt!! They recently started serving cakes and those are just the best especially when you're having a drink. Billy is extremely kind and unlike most places, he genuinely cares about delivering the best service and quality drinks. Would highly recommend anyone in the area to go and check this place out.
