Best coffee shop in KW. I haven't had a date square that delicious since my Nana made them for me as a child. Not sure if it was the nostalgia, the crumbly granola or the chewy date but these are really top notch. Try the mochaccino! Pairs well with ANY of their delicious pastries. Came by for some late night gelato. Service was really nice and we got to try every flavour between all of us (there are not too many flavours in total). Have never tried the coffee or anything else so cannot speak on the quality or worth-it-ness of those items, but the gelato was really quite good for the price. Most of the flavours were too sweet for my taste, but the mango sorbet was rich and delicious. At $2.75 for a single scoop cone, I really cannot think of a better price. Atmosphere is also great, and I imagine this would be a lovely place to chat with friends or do some work. I will be coming by again if I get the chance. read more

The service was amazing, the barista explained in detail the drinks I was interested in. The taste of the muffin was so fresh and warm and was served to my table. Prices are fair and the food is good at this quaint little cafe. Unfortunately I didn't get to sample the coffee, but the iced matcha tea more than made up for it with an invigorating and crisp flavor that was both refreshing and delicious. The salad was filling and complex in flavor, with the pistachio giving it the much needed crunch to bring it all together. There were high ceilings and interesting art on the walls, with relaxed regulars chatting the afternoon away. It's a charming coffee shop located in dt Kitchener. Because of the construction, the traffic is not convenient. The place is not big and only have a few tables. It should be busy in the afternoon. They have a wide choice of coffee and other drinks. Also they serve ice cream in summer, which is really worth to try. My favourite drink there is their London fog and the signature Canadian fog, which is made of maple syrup instead of sugar. I think the London fog is the best one I have tried so far. And the Canadian fog is very surprised to me, because I never tried in another place. It is really a signature drink here. This place is worth to go again. read more

In a sea of Coffee Cultures and Tim's and Starbucks, Matter of Taste stands out for its knowledgable baristas, beautiful lattes, great front window, downtown Kitchener location, and un-annoying clientele. Before moving to KW, I lived in a university town that had a great indie coffee shop on every corner. I could coffee-hop from one to another in a single (well-caffeinated) afternoon without a thought for Starbucks overpriced burnt coffee or a barista who had no idea what a latte actually entailed. For some reason KW, university town that it is, is woefully lacking in good coffee shops. Matter of Taste is a welcome oasis of excellent coffee in the land of Tim's. read more

Surprisingly well-appointed cafe almost directly across from city hall. I rode by the place at least a couple times before realizing. The interior design is modern Italian inspired. I found the latte to be more like a well made drip coffee. It was fine, but not the best in the city. However, the decor made up for it. I could definitely fool myself into thinking this was a very good latte. The latte art was nice, probably one of the prettier ones in KW. The gelato was a miss for me. I'm looking for creamy, silky smooth, almost sticky texture and consistency in my gelato. This one still had ice crystals that I could sense with my tongue, so something went wrong somewhere in the gelato production process. It's a great place for a first date or for a quick coffee break. Spent two days in a row at this cafe getting my work done. Had an americano and a English breakfast tea. The coffee beans used were delicious and had a great aroma. The teas were lose leaf and steeped fresh, making every sip delicious. The environment is great for a meet up or to get some work done. Matter of Taste serves the best espresso-based coffee in Kitchener Waterloo. My must-have every time I come is the Café Dulce, which is espresso sweetened with condensed milk. It is a deliciously velvety drink. I miss the uptown location which was closed a couple years ago. That was the one I visited most, as it was close to my work. Since then I haven't had the opportunity to visit as often as I'd like. Really wish they'd re-open in uptown (the space is still empty!) read more

My new favourite coffee spot! This place is so cozy with many tables and different kinds of seating areas. I ordered a latte and it came with the cutest leaf as latte art. My favourite part was that there is a water cooler beside the bar, so you can fill up your bottle or glass with some fresh clean water after your coffee. I will be back here for sure! read more

I've always thought that Matter of Taste has h ad the best coffee, espressos and lattes for years in KW for years. You cannot touch the expertise they handle coffee with. I just went into their new location (right next door to their old one) and I have to say its beautiful inside. The other location was good, but it was a little on the dark side. The big full window in the front lets in lots of natural light and the lighter scheme, and the white exposed brick really help brighten things up. Good job. Keep making great coffee! read more

It's my first time here and I already like it more than Coffee Culture. I bought the mochachino (a version of the cappuccino with dark sauce added for sweetness). If you're not a fan of drinks that are very strong and bitter, they have a decent selection to choose from! The environment is clean, cozy, and comfortable, but their bakery is very limited and small. I'll give it a 4 because I was hoping there would be more than bar desserts. Overall, definitely one of my favourite places in KW! PS. Free Wi-Fi and power outlets. Great place if you're looking to get some work done. read more

The atmosphere inside is great, and whenever I have been in they have always had an interesting selection of music playing. It's a great place to enjoy a coffee and get a bit of work done. They have excellent coffee, pleasant servers, and real baristas! I highly recommend the iced cappuccino in the summertime. It is an excellent and refreshing drink for a hot weather day, and unlike some other coffee shops their iced cappuccino is actually what it says it is: espresso and milk shaken over ice (gives it a lighter, foamier texture, much like a hot cappuccino). read more

First time stopping by this place after moving here over three months ago. The atmosphere was pretty decent it has a modern Italian Cafe shop feeling to me. But the employees working at this time didn't seem to be too happy to be working there. The girl didn't know what a white mocha was when I asked if they had any, seems to me a "barista" by definition a master of coffee preparation and of coffee knowledge should know what a white mocha is. But I got it and it was very good, I even bought an aeropress from here too. I like this place much better than Williams which is right across the street. read more
