I wanted to grab a late lunch on a Sunday in Waterloo and decided to visit The Bauer Kitchen. I found it on a rainy day, but ended up going through The Bauer Bakery & Cafe entrance to get to the restaurant. Two items immediately caught my eye. I love anything that is key lime. There were key lime tarts brightening my spirits on such a gloomy day. Next to them were these large nutter butter cookies. I knew that I wanted them, but needed to get some lunch first. The bakery and restaurant are connected. It's convenient. After lunch, I came back to the bakery, and got a nutter butter cookie and a key lime tart to go. The young man taking my order was great and friendly. I paid using a credit card and continued looking at all the yummy goodies in the display case. I love butter tarts and this bakery has some. You can also get sandwiches if you want something more savoury. It also offers herbal tea selections, which made me happy. I had both desserts back at the hotel before I left Waterloo. They were delicious! For years, I have been waiting for a key lime tart that has the right tartness and the best buttery, crunchy crust. I have found perfection. The lime slice is analogous cherry on top of this divine tart. I love nutter butter cookies. I used to import them from the States when they weren't readily available in Canada. This huge nutter butter cookie is so scrumptious. Think of two peanut butter cookies that are soft, yet don't disintegrate in your hand, with a creamy peanut butter filling inside. Sheer brilliance. Yum! There are a few seats in this cafe, but not a whole lot. When I was there, two women were seated, and there were perhaps two or three seats available. I have found my new favourite bakery in Waterloo. I'm so glad that I did. This place offers vegan and gluten-free option, too. I'm a fan. I'm definitely coming back for more. (370)

The cafe is located in the GSA (which sounds unappealing at first, but trust), you don't even think it's a school eating location upon entry. The staff are mainly students and were incredibly friendly and open to small talk. Place was quiet and clean too! I came after 4PM on a Friday and turns out they have liquidation sale for their in-display items (quiche, sandwiches, wraps, salads, rice bowls). The lady said they had a salmon rice bowl left and knowing that I don't get the opportunity to eat seafood in the area a lot, salmon was hard to turn down. But boy was I wrong, thinking it would taste good. The rice was really wet and mushy. The red onions did not go well with the overall dish at all. The salmon seemed to be canned? but was really dry and unseasoned :( So even though I got this bowl at $9 discounted to $4.50, I was not pleased. TLDR: don't get their rice bowls - even if there is discount. You can't go wrong with anything with cheese though!

Definitely fresher than any other place at laurier, they have board games and you can enjoy a beer on their patio if the weather is nice! I highly suggest having the roasted red pepper soup.

As we walked in, I noticed the open concept and minimal decor and fell in love with it! We were greeted by both the employees working right away and I must say, the customer service was perhaps the best part of the entire experience. We were never rushed to order as they gave us plenty of time to debate the menu and when it came time to order, the gentleman was very thorough and helpful with the sizes of drinks, explaining the milk alternatives which are free of charge, order was clarified to ensure it was correct - all in all, you could feel he took his time to get things right for us. When our iced matcha beverages were handed off, he realized he didn't let us know they come Una's a default and there, he offered simple syrup or vanilla syrup of our choosing since we do prefer our matcha sweetened. After tasting, we told him two pumps wasn't sweet enough and he kindly added more syrup for us. I personally ordered the seasonal white chocolate matcha as a hot beverage which was tasty but a little too sweet - I would request for half sweet next time. I also got the sea salt chocolate chip cookie as I couldn't resist (it looked so good in the pastry display!) It turned out to be absolutely delicious - the edges being the best part. My mom said it paired well with her Americano which was made with their Heritage blend. Speaking of which, before my mom ordered her coffee, she was offered to try their brew before buying which was really helpful as it ended up being too acidic for her. The Heritage blend was much more her preference with the nutty notes. All in all, a nice place to study and/or grab a coffee and snack to go! I'd highly recommend anyone to visit if in the area.
