What brought me to Tin Roof Cafe in Erin was my son's baseball game against the local team. With time to kill and bellies to fill before first pitch, we stopped by Tin Roof Cafe. It looked like the most promising spot in town, and we were fortunate to squeeze in an hour there before their daily 6 p.m. closing time. My son ordered the Tin Roof BLT, and everything about it tasted incredibly fresh. I especially appreciated that they used locally baked bread instead of the typical store-bought variety. (If you're wondering, they also offer a regular BLT--but you won't get the turkey, avocado, or chipotle mayo that make the Tin Roof version so special.) It was a delicious sandwich from start to finish. For myself, I ordered the Nutellaccino. It was surprisingly good. The Nutella added a nutty richness to the coffee without making it crazily sweet. We also ordered a peanut butter brownie to go. Since my son was eating his sandwich first, the staff kindly offered to keep the brownie in the fridge until we were ready to leave. However, since we still had some time to kill and of course a sweet tooth, so we ended up eating the brownie before we left. The brownie was so...good. You could tell it was homemade, and even the peanut butter was homemade. The only disappointment was that I visited during the summer. Otherwise, I definitely would have tried one of their soups, which unfortunately aren't available during the warmer months. I love coffee shops with personality, and Tin Roof Cafe has plenty of it. Its cozy, funky village vibe made our one-hour visit feel warm, welcoming, and memorable. It's exactly the kind of local café that makes a small-town stop worthwhile.

They allowed us to stay for a few hours to do some studying and work, however, they do not have wifi at this cafe. The drinks I found were mediocre. We ordered a matcha iced latte and Vietnamese iced coffee which both lacked in flavour. I drink a lot of Vietnamese iced coffee from other cafes or restaurants and they always prepare it with a strong kick of coffee flavour, complimented by the sweetness of the condensed milk. However this iced coffee was not the case and I also had to request more ice after as it melted so fast from the hot coffee. The cup portion was very small for the price we paid. The matcha latte was also lacking in matcha flavour and just tasted more like flavoured milk, very watered down. So I much prefer ordering this from Starbucks. The savoury crepe and waffle dessert we had was decent, nothing special compared to other places to give a 5 star. There were a few desserts I wanted to try but they were sold out. The drinks were okay so not sure if I would order those two again, maybe I'll try a different item next time.

Doors are non handicap accessible meaning trying to push open double doors with a stroller was fun. Also the fact that this restaurant does not have a change table in the cramped bathroom. Considering this restaurant is huge and takes up half a city block, you'd think they'd have the space to make a bigger bathroom with adequate facilities. We ordered two iced lattes: raspberry and lavender. They were ok, but nothing particularly memorable regarding the roasted beans they used. The bamboo straws were also frustratingly flimsy and kept breaking, which was especially annoying since the syrups settled at the bottom and you really needed the straws to mix the drinks properly. The major issue was the food service. We ordered a cinnamon bun and the Pregnant Sasquatch sandwich alongside our drinks, then waited nearly 30 minutes while watching people who ordered after us receive their food. When I finally went up to ask, it turned out the cashier had forgotten to send our order to the kitchen. This was stressful since we had an appointment in Toronto later in the afternoon. The cinnamon bun was then handed to us, which was sitting on the counter the whole time. Another 15 minutes later, a staff member came over to tell us they had run out of the artisan bun for the sandwich, so we had to choose an alternative. At that point, after all the delays and confusion, it honestly felt like some kind of compensation would've been appropriate. I ended up switching to sourdough bread. After waiting yet another 10 minutes, I asked if we could just cancel the sandwich altogether. The cashier assured us it was coming, and it finally arrived about 5 minutes later. To be fair, when I asked what happened, the cashier explained that they were very busy. But - there wasn't even much of a line when we placed our order, so the explanation didn't really add up. And unfortunately, after nearly an hour of waiting and spending around $30 on drinks and food, the sandwich itself was mid at best, Overall, the experience just didn't live up to the hype, and we probably won't be back.
