Absolutely terrible service on our last experience. Very rude servers. Dark, dingy atmosphere. The most overpriced and overrated Japanese food we've experienced, not to mention inauthentic. They can get away with this because they are the 'only game in town'. Food and service has gotten worse over the years. We will not be going back anymore. Please, someone open a real Japanese restaurant in Milton! read more

Amazing sushi all the time! The rolls are amazing and the sashimi and sushi is best in town! It's hard to appreciate other sushi restaurants after eating at Sushi-ya! We order take out all the time! The entire family loves it! If sushi is not your thing, their main entrees are great too! My kids love their Chicken Katsu! read more

Top tier sushi. Fresh and tasty, large pieces and a great selection. It's a small space but the staff are awesome.

I have gotten take out from here a few times now. I've had the black dragon roll, the blue ocean roll and some of the spicy Salmon rolls. I've enjoyed everything I've eaten here and want to try different types of rolls for next time. You do get a small discount if you pay cash so I try to do that always. I do find it a bit on the expensive side but I've found it to be the best sushi option on Milton so I will keep coming back. read more

What a gem!! I LOVE their sushi!! OMG!! I keep having cravings about them... they really use fresh raw fishes and I'm in love!! I love their rolls (they are very generous with portions and sauces!!) and their sushi (most neatly made)!! I wish they are located near where I live so I can go there everyday!! This is exactly what I've been looking for!! I don't like fat chubby weird looking nigiri . But this place make them in a shape that I really love. Not too big, not too small- just enough to fit in one bite. It is a small establishment. I don't think it's their fault for having a cozy spot. The staffs are friendly and they are nice. I wish we see more of this kind quality of sushi. These days, they "modernized" it too much that I miss old traditional sushi. Just simple nice fresh sushi!! Just LOVE LOVE LOVE!! read more

One of our friends suggested this place for dinner so we came as a group of 4. A nice, quaint place in Milton, seating is limited, maybe less than 10 tables total and it was packed on a Wednesday night. We were really hungry so we ordered their largest combo for 4 which consisted of over 100 pieces of sashimi, nigiri sushi and maki rolls. All of the fish was fresh and the standouts for me were their salmon and red tuna. Safe to say that the 4 of us devoured the combo and we were quite satisfied. The service was good as our server assured that the combo was enough for the 4 of us and our drinks were continually refilled. Great little a la carte spot that we would return to for their other menu offerings. read more

Sushi-Ya Japan - 100+ pieces of nigiri, maki rolls and sashimi - Japanese Near Me - Milton, Ontario

One of the few sushi places in Milton and unfortunately it's nothing to write home about. We had the sushi pizza for an appetizer and it was quite good; delicious base of crispy rice with fish and other items piled in top. Our main course though, a sushi combo boat for two people, was very bleh. Some of the fish was alright, others tasted a little chewy and not quite fresh. There was even a sharp bone in one of my salmon pieces (which, although it's never happened to me before in a sushi restaurant, I'm not deducting any points for). Service is friendly and the restaurant itself is quite nice looking, a cozy place that might be good for a date. If it was all more reasonably priced this place might have wound up at 3 stars. Unfortunately I just can't justify eating here again for the prices they have unless I was super desperate for sushi. read more

Go to spot for lunch/dinner whenever we are around Milton, usually after Halton Hills outlet shopping. Love that this small sushi joint has a quaint little patio adorned with flower baskets. Fresh fish and the rolls are huge. Chirashi presentation is lovely and decently priced at $24. Will definitely be back again :) read more

Who would've thought that there would actually be a good sushi place in Milton?! We've eaten here and gotten take out from here a few times. My husband and I like this place for a few reasons: It's a small but charming casual place decked out with details like Japanese artwork and umbrellas to name a few to have dinner. The food is good and tastes fresh. Good ones include the caterpillar roll (unagi/avocado), spider roll, philadelphia roll, deep fried calamari roll and sashimi (well my husband has tried this last one). The ratio of rice to sushi ingredients is good since they don't stinge on the ingredients. Prices are reasonable for the quality - about $7-$14 depending on how many pieces of sushi you order. The staff is nice when we've dined in. We've also done take out here and they are quick. read more

I've been living in Florida for a while, and I thought they had the best sushi I've ever had...however, coming back home and finding this spot has made me realize that we do have amazing sushi. The best sushi I've had since I've been home. Not gonna lie, don't think I'll go anywhere else! read more

There are so many things I love about Sushi-Ya Japan. ---- First: the food I ordered the sashimi dinner, green tea (and eventually a coke), and some green tea ice cream. The dinner came with miso soup & salad. I began with the soup, and i honestly am not a big fan on it. It must be the miso powder to water ratio. It was almost creamy & the flavor was overwhelming. It kinda made me afraid of how the rest of my meal would be, BUT i was quickly reassured. The salad was good. No tomatoes to pick out. =). I've found that a lot of restaurants have "watery" salads, but Sushi-Ya does not. And then came the boat. A BOAT! I didn't think my sashimi dinner would come out on a BOAT! .... wow .... I'm used to seeing those for sashimi for two or three or your table, but for me? only me? yes, only me. I was so pleased with the portions, too. It came with 18 pieces of fish. Good, thick, manageable, easily dip-able sashimi cuts. AND they threw in a few extras: shrimp, octopus, clam. I wish I had come hungrier... because I have sashimi leftovers in my hotel fridge right now. *tear* I'll probably dive back into it in an hour or so. Seriously, I am not a sushi lightweight... Ask my friends. lol. The sashimi was pretty fresh. Love it. When my ice cream came out, it was a double scoop! Again, ... wow ... And they also gave me some orange wedges. I didn't know it came w/ the meal... When my bill arrived, the waitresses gave me a "rewards card". A sushi rewards card... It's pretty cool. I guess I'll be a regular here now. You get 5% of purchase back everytime. =) Very cool. Never had one of these before for a sushi/japanese restaurant. ----- Second: the service The servers are so warm and attentive and friendly. Truly nice people. They know their customers, too! Most of the people who came in were greeted like old friends. They knew people by name & what they're usuals were. I love places that give you that feel. Maybe they'll remember me? ---- Three: the location/venue It's in the middle of downtown Milton just before you turn onto Main St. It's a little set-back from its neighboring buildings, but it just looked like a sweet building. They have outdoor seating. Not so ideal for the winter, but it must be nice in the summer. Also, there are several seating options inside: at the bar, tables for 2 - 6 people, and even private "rooms". I also liked the dishes, plates, tea cups. Good quality. Unfortunately, I think I heard someone drop a dish in the back. Oops! All-in-all... An excellent dinner. read more

Ate here for a birthday dinner with my family. I ordered the chirashi don while my other family members ordered the unagi don, sashimi don, and a green dragon roll. The chirashi bowl was fresh, satisfying, and exciting! Every bite was filled with a different taste and texture. This bowl had sashimi, vegetables, and perfectly cooked rice. The restaurant was small and cute. It's a nice place for enjoying an intimate meal with your guests. Filled with japanese decor and managed by helpful people. Service was quick and you got nicely cut orange for dessert before you leave. read more

Best sushi spot you can find!. The double spicy salmon is phenomenal. The wait times for pick up orders are insanely long and we usually order for pick up 20 minutes ahead of when we plan to arrive. other than that, this place can't be beat. read more

From the outside it is a little hard to find because it is a little tucked away. Visually this place is small (washroom is in the basement type small). But don't let the size fool you. The food itself was pretty good. I ordered the 18 piece boat and surprisingly 18 pieces came in a boat! Presentation wise it was pretty good and service was pretty quick. The fish seems fresh. I wouldn't mind coming back to try it again. Street parking is available or in the off hours maybe park it at the plaza across from it. read more

The sushi is probably one of the best in Milton. Decided to try take out given the COVID situation, and they have upped their prices from their in store menu, in addition to the endless delivery and service charges which coincide with ordering delivery. 3 rolls of sushi came to approximately $60, and although it was good it was not worth the price read more

Sooo good, a bit more pricier than the other places in Milton but the sushi is amazing!

Have been ordering here for past few years, its been best sushi we ever had. Today finally did a big party tray order after few months due to covid closures. Their stuff barely resembles what they used to serve before, tiny rolls, barely any rice, overall big disappointment. They must have changed ownership, or chef, because they are not making the same quality as before. I will give them another try in a month or two, hopefully they sort this out with new chef. But as of today its not the same place I enjoyed for past few years. read more

We dropped by this place on the recommendations of the positive Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. Most places serve a small piece of fish to a large amount of rice. Not here. Each piece of Nigiri easily had twice the amount of fish to rice ratio. I particularly liked how the salmon was cut to include a bit of 'belly'. Nice! Fish was fresh, presentation excellent. Clean establishment, good service. Definitely worth a visit when in the area. read more

Cozy place nearby main street. I was on my way to Glen Eden for a snowboard shred and I found this place through yelp. Reviews were very useful and I decided to give it a shot. Combo 18pcs of assorted fish came in in a boat. The lady allowed me to pick my preferred fish and it was delicious. Well worth coming to this place instead of many all you can eat out there. The food quality is A+. I was not able to get a proper tea but I didn't mind. read more

SERVICE: Very good. They took our order and brought the food out at a timely manner. The staff are Japanese! I was not expecting a Japanese restaurant to have Japanese staff as they are usually run and owned by Chinese staff. This was delightful to find especially in a place like Milton. FOOD: Excellent! I absolutely loved it. Only con is that food is EXPENSIVE. ATMOSPHERE: I absolutely loved the cute decorations and little details on the walls. The booth was so cute. The restaurant had a home like, cozy feel. My favourite type of restaurants have a homey feel and this place was perfect. GREAT for a date! However, the washroom is in the basement and the toilet stall is very tight! VERDICT: The food is high quality and tasty. The presentation is also very nice. Come here for a date! I would definitely come back. read more

Best sushi in Milton - not the cheapest but the best. Really cute restaurant, small but it's genuinely a nice place - very cozy & quaint. The couple that I always see working there are so kind. Liked this small but so Japanese place. We ordered Ginza plate - 42 ps and 2 miso soups. Paid around 60. All is fresh and taste excellent!

I have been going to this sushi restaurant since I was 16. It is by far the ABSOLUTE best sushi in Milton. It is always fresh and outstanding. Reminder: you are going to a small hole in the wall and you aren't going there for decor, but if you really love sushi this is the place to go. I bring all my visitors to Milton here and everyone loves it. Probably order from here once a week. I believe that the people who are posting 2 stars don't really know what sushi is like and are more geared toward all you can eat. Whereas those places utilize frozen food (seriously), this is all fresh. Never had a bad experience here in my 12 years of dining with them. read more

Saw the rating here on Yelp and trusting in the taste of my brethren decided to check it out. On our way to the movies so didn't want anything too heavy so Sushi was the answer. Party of four checked in just before 8pm on a Friday night. Ordered the large Boat, an order of Crazy Crazy and some smoked Eel. The boat came with 3 Miso soups and 3 salads. Combine that with an order of tempura, 2 Asahi's, Sake for two and 2 bowls of green tea ice cream and the bill came to $200 with tip. The boat was 80 pcs of combined sushi and sashimi. The fish was very fresh and well prepared. The tempura was hot and crisp and combined 1 shrimp, 1 asparagus, a broccoli and 2 pcs of yam. Service was quick and we were sat immediately. There's only room for about 30 people and the restaurant was about 2/3 full. The waitress was great. Checked on us often enough. The restaurant closes at 9:00 so they came by just after 8:30 to say the kitchen was closing and did we want anything else. Overall the rating was for the freshness and presentation of the food. Very nice. Price was a little high especially if you compare to what you get in an all you can eat joint for half the price. read more
