I used to go to Tomo Sushi from time to time for extended family dinners, but I think I haven't been back since the renovation. On this recent visit, the space felt more modern and brighter overall. The layout is still basically the same though - the centre tables feel more open, while the side tables along the walls feel a bit more tucked away. The family I was with still comes here pretty regularly, so they knew what to order. Overall, the sushi and other dishes were solid for what they are. One thing to note is that the rolls are on the larger side with a lot of sauces and seasoning, so it leans more "Canadianized" than traditional sushi - which is great as long as that's what you're expecting to get. Service was friendly and quick too, so I'd definitely consider coming back again when I'm in the area. read more

I had high expectation for this place as I saw high ratings. In general, the quality of the seafood was good. And the service was lovely. I decided to order the sashimi combo (no rice) with: 6 pieces of salmon sashimi 5 pieces of Nigerian sushi 5 pieces of dynamite roll 2 pieces of Shrimp and 3 pieces of vegetable tempura This set comes with miso soup, garden salad and rice. When i read "no rice", I literally thought the made the sushi and roll with no rice. But there were rice. I don't understand why the name of this set is sashimi combo with no rice when there were so much rice involved. The fish used were nothing unique. For the price, I thought perhaps there would be a special piece to taste. Server was friendly and accommodating and checked in on us once in a while to refill our water etc. Food arrived at a reasonable time. Place wasn't that busy when we went today on a Saturday evening at around 2pm. Salmon lover set (22 pcs) vs salmon sashimi, sushi & roll lunch (18 pcs). The lover set is an extra $10 so if you would like something similar and cheaper I recommend the salmon sashimi, sushi & roll lunch which is similar but 4 pieces less. This is the one we got. Overall I enjoyed their food and could tell it was quality salmon. Their volcano roll was really cool! Wasn't expecting the fire on the sides (see picture). They do give out one use wooden chopsticks instead of the reusable ones which I found to be kinda disappointing but overall not a big deal. read more

Whenever i want reliably great sushi in Mississauga, Tomo is the spot. I've been here countless times for both take out and dine in, and each time the food is reliably great. Sushi is always great, but from my last dine in experience, the Japanese Mushroom Soup and the Matcha Pankotta were excellent standouts. read more

Business was good as there were a steady line of takeout orders waiting for pickup from Uber eats, and takeout pickups. We had the large 64 piece Deluxe Tray: Chef's selection 30 pcs sashimi, 20 pcs nigiri sushi, 14 pcs special roll (Black Dragon roll). $145. Everything was very fresh and delicious. I ate at Tomo Sushi recently and was blown away by how good the food was. The sushi/sashimi was incredibly fresh, with generous cuts (honestly some of the best sushi I've had in the area). They have a nice range of specialty and premium sushi, but the standout for me was actually just the salmon sashimi, so simple yet absolutely delicious! I finished with a matcha pudding for dessert, and it was the perfect way to wrap up the meal. The service was just as good. My server was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food did take a little while to come out, but given how fresh everything was (and how much I ordered), it was totally understandable and well worth the wait. Came for hubby's birthday with 2 picky eaters and one (me) gf and vegan guest. We ordered a variety of sushi and they had several veg options. Everyone enjoyed the sushi's and they allowed us to bring a cake. The edamame was simple but hubby LOVED the black cod. I like how tables were separated by shades. Large portion sizes, tasty food. We came here with family and was seated right away but within 30 minutes the place was filled. I got the Kalbi dinner with miso soup, salad, rice, 6 pc Cali roll, shrimp and vegetable tempura and two gyozas for $40. It was soooooo good and the kalbi was favourful and tender. I've been going to this location as it's changed names and ownership for decades. The location used to be the premier Japanese sushi restaurant in Mississauga. After a change, it was overhyped and really not deserving of the best in Mississauga title The latest change has been good. Went here for lunch and noticed that it looks like it's Japanese owned. Or at least has several Japanese staff. That's always a good sign as the sushi restaurant industry is loaded with Korean and Chinese run establishments that aren't really the same as a good Japanese run one. Had the premium chiriashi and tempura shrimp : Premium Chiriashi - quality fish with high quality ingredients. It's more expensive than the regular version but the quality is worth it. Amberjack, King Salmon, madai, Aburi finished fishes etc the quality and freshness is competitive to top sushi restaurants in Toronto. Don't get me wrong, this isn't Michelin star calibre. But you are also not paying remotely close to that price either. This is going to be my go to for premium but not Michelin Japanese food. Tempura shrimp: beautiful presentation. 6 shrimp well prepared and not overly battered. Tempura veterans will notice that the dipping sauce has an extra aromatic hint of ginger. This is an extra touch that isn't common for regular Japanese restaurants. Service was also patient and friendly. Had the low level respectful Japanese feel that is not present in the other run establishments. Bravo. read more

Same # of *s, but just an updated review as Tomo has changed hands several times. Stopped in for lunch last week. Interior has been updated/repainted in my neutral colours, so it looks more modern. Was greeted by a friendly, male host almost immediately. There are Lunch Specials everyday and hover around $21. They also have Korean dishes, so I'm pretty sure Tomo is a Korean-run sushi place. Plating/presentation is good, as are the cuts/portions sizes. Fish is fresh. Hwedupbap was a good serving, I did not finish the big bowl. Overall, good...for Mississauga. I had heard mixed reviews of Tomo when it replaced Sushi Tei years ago. A friend recently shared that Tomo underwent renos and is likely under new ownership now because they dine in often and have noticed improvements. I was invited for a meal and had an opportunity to try the restaurant for myself. Quality of food is really good. There's a vast lunch selection to choose from and their specialty rolls differ slightly from other establishments I've been to, tantalizing my palate. Service is good too. Went for lunch and ordered a few rolls to share. We had the white and black dragon rolls; seared scallops and BBQ eel, tuna roll, salmon sushi, sashimi and roll that also came with a soup and salad. All in all, very yummy. A complimentary bowl of noodles was also given. This item was listed on the menu as a take out option only. The fish was buttery and tasty. Each roll was filled with a variety of colour and deliciousness. The price point is fair and on par with other competing restaurants of the same caliber. Menu has much to offer everyone. read more

I've got take out a few times from Tomo Sushi and today I dined in for the first time since the pandemic. It's one of the many Korean-owned Japanese restaurants in the Mississauga that has a large dining space with lots of smaller rooms for more intimate gatherings. Service is fantastic. They are well staffed and they are very fast and attentive. Our table has got tea topped up regularly. Food and price are middle to upper quality and range. I definitely recommend the Chef's Choice/deluxe options, in order to get the better seafood. Their menu is large and there's something for everyone. read more

Okay experience overall. We had a reservation and our group of 8 waited at least 20 minutes after we sat down before the staff attended to us to give us water. The fish was fresh and the ratio of filling to rice was great as well. The short ribs were super flavourful, a great way to start a meal. Overall would recommend this place for sushi! This place was a haven during a cold winter day! We came at 8:30pm. I came with 2 others and we shared a Small Sushi & Sushi Roll platter and a haedibap. Just visiting from the States and this was the closest to the Fairfield Inn. We were reeling from how good the salmon/tuna rolls were (they add some tempura flakes that melt with the fish in your mouth). The rest of the rolls were also good. The haedibap was also filled with fresh fish and roe and was similarly really good. I'd come back for their haedibap again. I highly recommend! read more

Glad to see another sushi restaurant replacing the spot where Sushi Tei used to be! Tomo Sushi is of fairly good quality; I've been twice, and it's impressed me both times! The service and speed is a little slow, but the fish quality is quite good for Mississauga standards. Each meal comes accompanied by their "soup", which consists of super soggy noodles in a mirin-based soup and tempura flakes. I typically just eat the noodles and leave the rest behind... The first time, I split a large sashimi, sushi, and roll boat with three people. They have a decent variety of fish, mainly consisting of tuna and salmon, though there was the odd seared aburi butterfish and a dressed red snapper. The rolls were pretty boring; there was the salmon roll (very meaty, with not much rice at all), a spicy salmon roll, and a weak dynamite roll (the tempura shrimp was so limp). There was a good assortment of nigiri, with eel, butterfish, tuna, shrimp, salmon, etc. My family also got two deep fried ice creams - one green tea and another vanilla. Don't be fooled - for $5 each, the tempura ice cream is very filling!! The second time I came, we shared the medium sized boat of sashimi, sushi, and rolls. The assortment is similar, and the three of us were stuffed by the end of it. Tomo Sushi is a nice addition to this plaza, and I'm looking forward to coming again! read more

We came here for lunch on a Sunday at about 1:00 PM. We haven't been here since it was Sushi Tei, so it's been a long time, and we have been wanting to give the new restaurant a try for a while. Tomo Sushi's interior spacious and decorated in the same traditional wood manor like its predecessor. The service was fast and efficient. For our lunch we ordered: Sushi Lunch Deluxe (Chef's selection) Maki Set Lunch "A" Kalbi Lunch Combo The quality of the sushi was very good, and the fish was very fresh. The size of the sushi and maki was also better than most other places. However, the best deal was the lunch combo. The combos come with 3pices of California roll, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura, miso soup, salad, rice and the main, which in my case Kalbi. My combo was $19.00, which is pricy, but actually good value for what you get. They also have Bul-Go-Gi, Teriyaki, Sashimi, Tofu, and Udon combos ranging in price from $14.00 to $20.00. So, Tomo Sushi is a good option for sit down Japanese that is not AYCE. It is a bit pricier than other places, but the freshness of the sushi and quality of all their food makes up for it. Also, their lunch and dinner combos are a good deal. I would come back again just for the lunch combos. read more

This was one of my favourite restaurants to go to when it was still called Sushi Tei, however, the quantity AND quantity of their food just keeps going down and the price keeps hiking up. I made a takeout order to Tomo sushi yesterday for a dragon trio and was told to arrive there in 30 minutes around 7:00. I got there around 6:57 and was told my order was not ready and i had to wait 15 minutes. Judging from the restaurant. There were no other orders and the waitress was on her phone because the place was empty. Therefore, I'm not sure as to why my order wasn't ready at said time but it's ok. Food To say i was disappointed was an understatement. The price of the dragon trio has gone up since I've last visited and the size of them has gone down. The reason i kept visiting the restaurant was because i had so much love from their sushi size as they were known for their HUGE rolls and reasonable pricing. However, after the restaurant changed owners, the prices hiked up which is fine if the quality had sustained. I've been 3 times after it's called TOMO and the sushi size JUST KEEPS GETTING SMALLER. I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed. I gave it a 2 star as the taste was still good. Overall: I don't recommend it to anyone who has been to sushi tei and think it stayed the same quality. However, if you're looking for a sushi place, it's a little more on the expensive side as my dragon trio came to 50 dollars which i don't think is worth it. We have been going to this location for o we 25 years and it has changed hands several times. TOMO Sushi as well is doing and excellent job with their Sushi. Typically we always order a Sushi Sashimi party plater, a little on the expensive side but well worth the money as everything is fresh, clean and delish. The food was standard good. I had the tempura tofu and it was crispy, warm and soft. My friends had bulgogi bento and the portions were all very good.
