Rainbow roll: fresh sashimi atop dynamite roll
    Carol G.

Do not let exterior looks deceive you. Hidden in a parking lot of the Super 8 Hotel at the Woodlawn and Silvercreek intersection, is a true hidden gem. Maki sushi is my favourite here - so delicious and generously sized. I also like grabbing their chicken katsu salad for lunch. Their sashimi is fresh and they also have great, friendly service -- both for dine-in and delivery. Parking is available in front and back as they share with the hotel. I also like that they have Japanese-style floor dining in more private rooms from 6-14 people depending on which room (there are two) which is great for intimate gatherings. Highly recommend.

The food are not too bad. Eel fried rice tastes good! The portions are not too big that you can order more other food (AYCE).

They offer AYCE which is what I always opt for, but you can also order off a regular menu as well.

The online order system instructs you to send a text…read moremessage with particular ordering instructions, which is fine for me as I have worked in food service before, but I can imagine that people unaccustomed to working in the food service industry could find this challenging. I received a confirmation text, and when I arrived the food was ready - earlier than scheduled even which is a bonus. We had intended to use downtown Guelph gift vouchers we recently received as a gift. As a business listed under the Downtown Guelph Business Association directory, they should be willing and able to accept them as they are valid as cash or cheques. They get deposited the same as a cheque into their bank, as it says on both the voucher AND the Downtown Guelph Business Association website. We arrived to pick up our order and were told that the owner does not want to accept these vouchers. The cashier had been told before that they are not willing to accept then. We insisted that they should take them as they are valid as cash or cheque at any downtown business, but apparently the owner does not want to deal with the hassle. The cashier phoned the owner who immediately told them "no, we won't take them" and hung up. We then offered to pay by credit card with Apple Pay since we had not brought our wallets. We were told it was an additional $2, and they don't have tap. We ended up leaving with nothing, and the food went to waste. It is hugely disappointing as someone who tries to support local businesses to be turned away because they don't want to deal with vouchers from their own local business association. It is a service offered by the community to ensure the economic stability of the downtown core, and to see it discarded by a local business is very disheartening. It is also disappointing that they would rather see food go to waste than accept a voucher. Very dissatisfied with the lack of commitment to the community and complete lack of customer service on the part of the owner.

But not only that, the service was super friendly and the decor was cute. I went around 3pm in a Friday and it was absolutely dead. But that definitely had nothing to do with it being bad food. I appreciated all of the many fish options for the bowls and all the great topping options! I will definitely go back for more poke and to try a sushi burrito! I went back a second time to try their rolls (aka sushi burritos). I tried the ninja bomb roll with ninja sauce and it was very good. They also have decent miso soup! Still have yet to disappoint

The appetizers (calamari, mozza sticks, and wings) were great! Very solid choices although personally the wings (medium) were a little too sweet for us. Service was ok but the waitress did seem a bit stressed. The mains, however, were a bit disappointing. The burgers were just ok, my halloumi in the halloumi salad was burnt (although the salad itself was great), and the children's cheese sandwich was also burnt. The fish & chips were very oily. Usually I really want to like and rate local establishments well as I am a local myself, but burnt food is a no-no and unfortunately with kids I don't really have the time to ask for a remake. Great vibes for a good beer though.

Their rolls are packed with flavor, and even though some of their rolls come in 8 pieces, they are not packed with rice. Their lunch menu does leave a lot to be desired but it is lunch after all so I'm hoping to be back sooner than later to give their dinner menu a try! -teriyaki salmon was moist, and filled with flavor -their takoyaki was A+ as well -spicy salmon maki is consistent with other places so I would recommend this too -their fried rolls are amazing and not too stuffed with rice but still also having a decent amount of filling! -there was this one delicious dragon roll that I cannot remember the name of but it had a mayo sauce topping it that gave it a kick - this roll was 10/10 and I would order it again and again 10000% you should make a reservation in advance because there was a wait even at 3PM on a Sunday - as a table of two, we only wait about 20 minutes but for bigger groups, you should definitely reserve ahead to be certain you'll get a table when you want one!
